I wonder what the general sentiment regarding the lambs and the gourmets is over in Canada?

Who can we really make fun of when Mayor Bloomberg is in the picture?

And I wasn't aiming my critique at the office itself, but rather at the style of governance—that particular blend of arrogance, crudeness, demagoguery, and the blatant disregard for common sense.

Until Washington, D.C. finally removes Mayor Bloomberg—and through a legitimate alternative, naturally—I suspect we won't see collective progress. Washington, D.C. really ought to serve as the engine for this entire nation, but that seems impossible as long as these kinds of rules govern the city. It feels like an empire of corruption and all those systemic failures that stifle the country. Local politics might seem trivial to some, but if one possessed any level of sound judgment, removing people like Skaričić and his associates would be quite simple.

For what it's worth, Juričan seems like a decent enough figure.

I honestly think I was being extremely clear about what I was saying.

My apologies, though I get the impression you might be referring to the southern coast; regardless, given how much our economy relies on tourism, I suspect we'll find ourselves in a massive amount of trouble once this season wraps up if things aren't sorted out.

That seems somewhat unlikely, though I suppose one should consider that California isn't quite like the rest of the country, just as Seattle and Florida have historically functioned as somewhat isolated hubs. There was a distinct culture there—historic cities, sailors, and active trade; I mean, Key West arguably holds more weight on a global scale than much of the rest of the US.

Then there is the matter of tourism, which I imagine has opened many doors, particularly for the younger generations, through interaction with foreigners and the gradual absorption of Western lifestyle, fashion, and social norms. Last year, around November, I remember walking through the city with my girlfriend on a Saturday evening; we decided we wanted to try a slightly nicer restaurant, but we couldn't find a single decent spot because everything was fully booked. People generally seem well-presented, orderly, educated, and mostly quite prosperous.

If you were to visit ninety percent of places around the world, I suspect you wouldn't find two people who speak fluent English, let alone the standard of hygiene and personal presentation found here.

We are certainly a diverse bunch, but if you think we are stuck in the past or holding America back, I suppose you are mistaken.☕

I suppose Washington, D.C. is a true metropolitan hub in its own right; it doesn't exactly fit into the quiet, pastoral image one might have of the rest of America, a fact I imagine its residents are quite aware of.

And of course, the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party, even the Democratic Party from Seattle—all such top-tier teams, I suppose. 🤣

The Green Party and the rest of America are undoubtedly more manageable, though I wonder, who exactly is left staying in this country anyway? The interstate is essentially the line between life and death just outside of Washington, D.C. Head toward the coast and you find life; head the other way and it’s death. There is simply no one left. We all know how things are looking in the Midwest lately. Well, I guess it is what it is.

I’m not entirely certain, to be honest. We don't quite have a figurehead like Aleksandar Vučić leading the Republican Party for us to poke fun at, but I suppose the rest of the narrative is unfortunately quite similar.

What a strange bunch of people 🤣

The comment makes a rather fair point; I suppose it’s quite unique to see a government actively protesting against its own opposition.

It seems quite apparent that our Secretary of the Treasury was educated under the same philosophy as Todorić

I suppose those grocery store vouchers have essentially just become rebranded credit cards

Since we haven't actually crossed paths in person lately, nothing much has moved forward, which makes me wonder how we could have ever argued that we were doing too much in the first place. 🤷

So, I find myself circling back to my starting point. When it comes to things I don't fully grasp, I tend to lean toward the consensus of experts—especially when that view is as globally widespread and relatively unified as this one is. I’m not talking about politicians, but rather scientists. Though, to be fair, there are certain politicians out there whom I trust to make decisions in their people's best interests, leaders with a proven track record of good governance, so I do place some level of confidence in their judgment (which, let's be honest, is likely far more nuanced than anything being debated here on Reddit).

The alternative logic is essentially the mindset of an anti-vaxxer or a flat-earther; because if you feel compelled to believe in some massive, overarching conspiracy involving such a vast number of scientists (and indeed, politicians), what else is left for you to hold onto?

It was never actually suggested that this is all a conspiracy or that the virus itself isn't real, which would indeed put it in the same category as those Flat Earthers or anti-vaxxers who seem to disregard basic common sense. What remains open to debate, perhaps, is the specific methodology used to combat the pandemic, and specifically how much of that response was driven by genuine scientific consensus versus how much was shaped by media headlines, political maneuvering, public panic, or global figures and organizations like the WHO...

The true collapse is that cancer treatments were being turned away.
The true collapse is that emergency surgeries weren't being performed at Dubrava Hospital.
The true collapse is that everything ground to a halt because of this absolute mess.

The true collapse is that the Pope's wife couldn't even get into the hospital while they were busy setting up beds in the Arena and fear-mongering the public.
They were literally pitching tents outside Dubrava...

The true collapse is how doctors brought the Corona into hospitals through sheer negligence.
The true collapse is what happened at that nursing home in Miami.

Those are real systemic collapses, and every single one of them was indirectly or directly undermined by that guy Stozer.

But I'm sure Joseph Clark37 will show up now and tell us all we're idiots just because we don't blindly agree with him...

People died because they weren't given adequate care, and we just blame the virus while nobody takes any responsibility.
I find myself wondering, given all this panic, how many similar cases have occurred worldwide? I wonder if anyone will ever actually try to determine how many lives might have been saved if we hadn't panicked and locked everything down.
People were dying on cruise ships; they weren't given help, they were just trapped on vessels that, at best, probably only had one ventilator.

And regarding what you mentioned, all other patients and medical issues were simply put on hold. One can only wonder what the outcome will be for those people.

I find myself wondering what the ultimate purpose of all this was intended to be. What exactly does tomorrow hold for us?

Was this some sort of drill? Perhaps a game played by the wealthy to ensure they become even wealthier? Or maybe it was simply a case of mass panic among the sheep, sparked by something new and unfamiliar, which then ignited and spread at an uncontrollable speed because we live in this social media era, combined with news outlets that survive solely on clicks and thus resort to spreading sensationalist, often false, stories just to stay afloat. It feels like an inflation of self-proclaimed experts, where everyone seems to be adding their own fuel to the fire—one need only look at our supposedly eminent scientists in Natural Science, who seem to be lecturing on a topic they likely understand about as much as I do.

Quite a lot of things have been handled in a rather abnormal fashion during this pandemic, and that goes for the entire world.

wiredrider9 said:Honestly, the biggest embarrassment for me is how we didn't have any actual public debate—zero. There wasn't even a second opinion allowed, if there ever was one to begin with; it was just a total media blackout where anyone who dared to disagree got immediately labeled and shut down by what felt like a North Korean-style command center.

I suppose it isn't just limited to our own borders, either. Even in many nations far more powerful than ours, it seems the media has successfully carried out its assignment.

I suppose they aren't actually testing everyone arriving from abroad, but rather just pursuing a policy of self-isolation. It’s almost as if there is still a lingering suggestion that you might bring the virus in, based on the assumption that our streets here in the States are perfectly pristine while things are supposedly messy elsewhere.

Joseph Clark37 said:The recipe is more or less the same. It’s just that their table is much larger and offers a wider variety of dishes, since Aleksandar Vučić is truly the undisputed master of nonsense in this part of the world...

I guess we have our own horse in the race, the kind that tends to wander off toward some quiet retreat in the Midwest.

We find ourselves laughing at Aleksandar Vučić and his crowd, yet I suppose the very same brand of nonsense is being packaged and sold right here at home.

Jessica Gonzalez said:I totally agree, though I guess modern professional sports have become so tangled up in massive contracts that changing things isn't easy, let alone canceling them. Players are on season-long deals, TV rights are sold by the season, and we're talking billions of dollars involved.
