That meeting between the President and the press is probably more dangerous for America than the pandemic was.

And there we have Eno and Zeljka Markic, looking absolutely thrilled about it all.

🤣

I didn't touch a single word by Hemingway until I was thirty, and then suddenly, I stumbled upon his work.

Good grief.

That level of artistry, that profound window into the human psyche through a depiction of old-world Americana... it all flows through these stunning sentences, with a rhythm and vocabulary so vivid it feels like you're looking at a moving painting.

I’ve devoured his entire body of prose since then, likely more than once.

Perhaps I'm being a bit dramatic, but to me, Hemingway is the ultimate master of the craft.

If you're looking for more, I’d highly suggest checking out Steinbeck’s East of Eden, or sticking with Hemingway’s own The Old Man and the Sea and A Farewell to Arms. I could talk about this for days.

As I approach my thirties, I find myself developing this immense appreciation for chess. There seems to be something about being in one's thirties.

Amanda Evans2 said:This entire discussion has spiraled completely off course.
The mandate regarding Sunday closures was handed down by the task force tasked with fighting the coronavirus.
A supposedly sacred and infallible task force.
A group that was ostensibly here to properly combat and manage this pandemic.
But the very moment they decided to throttle the economy while simultaneously permitting religious processions, any semblance of logic or trust in this committee vanished. Honestly, I don't think anyone with half a brain can take them seriously anymore.
Implementing these Sunday restrictions as an epidemiological measure only reinforces my long-standing belief: this isn't about public health experts managing a virus; it’s about much more dangerous agendas at play.
I have been saying this since day one of this task force's existence, and it becomes more glaringly obvious with every passing day.

We aren't just talking about the usual seasonal debate over Sunday business hours that pops up whenever the Church makes its presence felt.
This is a conversation about unilateral decisions made without any dialogue—decisions that bear almost no actual relationship to the "fight" they keep preaching to us about.
This supposed fight against the pandemic.

How exactly is working on a Sunday more epidemiologically hazardous than working on a Saturday under the CDC's guidelines?
It's infuriating. Someone please explain the logic...

The idea that they should be the ones deciding whether businesses operate on Sundays or not feels completely nonsensical. From the very beginning, it has been apparent that what our leaders are performing is little more than a grand charade—a mere smokescreen for repressive and authoritarian tactics. And it seems the mainstream media has quite willingly assisted them by helping to instill fear within the public.

The subject here is retail work and similar sectors. In all honesty, these tend to be some of the lowest-paid positions with the least amount of protection, mainly because if you were to lose your job tomorrow, you could probably find something else stocking shelves at a local Walmart. These individuals are often exploited for very little compensation.

When I am working my own job, I feel as though I am performing labor every single day, yet I am compensated fairly for it. It seems to me that these people work all year round for almost nothing. Perhaps we could at least demonstrate a small amount of empathy without resorting to hollow moralizing.

I suppose a bad electrician dies from electrocution, whereas a good one tends to pass away from too much bourbon.

He just puts in whatever hours are necessary, I guess.

Though, if I may be so bold, perhaps you might reconsider lecturing me on work ethic when none of you actually started pulling a real paycheck until recently.👍

Elizabeth Mendoza said:Poor cashiers. They’re absolutely exhausted just from sitting at the register all day and stacking boxes on the shelves. Only a six-hour shift, too. 🙏

Let’s go ask one of those fishermen what he thinks about their little complaints. He’s out there with hands raw from the wind, hauling heavy nets and lugging crates upon crates of fish while dealing with freezing ice.

A fisherman is only off the clock maybe seven to ten days a month.

Matthew Young35 said:Nobody is actually offended by the idea of having a free Sunday.
I, for one, am offended by the notion of banning work on Sundays.

In my view, bans are generally quite useless. Except, perhaps, for those specifically designed to protect an individual's safety. The concept of being required to work until 9 p.m. every single day of the week—effectively eliminating Sunday—seems to strip away any sense of humanity from the workforce. People end up becoming little more than robots, merely stocking shelves or ringing up customers, repeating the same cycle day after day until their vacation rolls around. I suppose one might question if such a lifestyle, driven purely by profit, is truly worth living.
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
It seems the most formidable individuals are those who pose as titans of industry, yet find themselves utterly scandalized by the mere suggestion of a free Sunday. I suppose one must give credit where it is due; if it weren't for your tireless contributions as the backbone of the workforce, the global economy might be at least fifty percent weaker as it is.

ruggedjackal46 said:The death toll in the USA is ten times higher than what we're seeing in China. What kind of leadership does that even suggest?

Sweden has a death count roughly equal to our current infection numbers. Look, countries like Sweden or Germany can afford to take those kinds of risks because they have robust healthcare systems capable of absorbing a massive surge in patients. Our healthcare system is already straining at the seams; they're turning away people who don't even have Coronavirus just to keep up. What on earth would happen if we had 20,000 active cases instead of 2,000?

Honestly, this whole situation is a tectonic disaster. It’s a complete wreck for the economy, and it’s just as messy for politics, especially now that the crisis management team has basically become an unquestionable authority. No matter how you slice it, it's a total mess.

If the system is creaking now, it will likely collapse entirely in a few years, simply because I wonder where the funding for healthcare is actually going to come from.

Whenever I witness these kinds of dilemmas—whether we are talking about mankind or just peoplekind—I suppose even the old tensions between the Patriots and the partisans don't seem quite as polarizing as they once did.

Noah Perez2 said:I don't know, maybe you have better intel than I do, or maybe it’s just a placebo effect because my skin wasn't exactly glowing, so I later connected it to those rumors—you know how that goes. Between them and Densi, I’d choose Densi every single time, and not just for the seating or the beer, but because their kebabs are genuinely excellent. Best in town, in my opinion.

But honestly, if the goal is to glorify them, let's be real: they're all absolute FF trash. If I were looking for $23, I’d much rather hit up a local tavern run by a real American ☕

Yeah, I agree, Djir is wild. The food is solid, they have a corner for kids where you can let them mess around, and the atmosphere is actually pleasant.

As for the price, as far as I know, it seems perfectly reasonable. Ultimately, if we are weighing cost against portion size and location, I’d say the best move would be to just head over to Lisbon; for 10 euros, the food there is insane—you pick from X dishes and just cram as much as you can in, especially since the location is right at the foot of the Elevador.

It’s just a shame it isn't practical to fly to Portugal every single day, haha.

I didn't mean to imply that Densi is terrible, but most FF places are 😁, whereas you realistically pay a bit less there than at this overly hyped spot. For me, Plan B is perfectly fine, especially since that Terminal F on the waterfront didn't really sit right with me; I suspect it's just a classic rip-off. I won't be returning there anytime soon 😁.

Indeed, I also prefer those kinds of places most; for lovers of vb16 and others who find themselves in Barcelona, I highly recommend Guanabar, which is a Brazilian restaurant—a total knockout where you eat until you simply can't anymore 😛.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, I won't be making it over there again this year 👎.

I suppose I should ask how long the meat at Plan B has been part of the menu at Pivce. I can't say for certain how much the quality has changed since my last visit, but back then, the meat wasn't bad at all, and his stories about life in Split were actually quite engaging. It’s a bit of a surprise, though, that they've become so incredibly popular lately, but in my opinion, the food and atmosphere are significantly better than the garbage you get at FF for $30.$13

Densi is decent, mainly because of the beer enjoyed while sitting on the wall and that sense of nostalgia it evokes. Not that I spent a hundred years there either.

Djir does have a few good spots, though the last time I was there, I was with a girl. They offer a good selection of high-quality food and wines at prices that are actually affordable for us mere mortals. Then again, everything is getting so expensive these days... Honestly, I probably wouldn't even pay for it anymore.😁

Charles Roberts33 said:Yeah, as long as you have gold to flex with, everything is fine, but once that runs out, you're straight into survival mode🤣. Food isn't really my priority—I usually just grab something on the go whenever I can—but I didn't even get a chance to check out Boca (looks like a ticket from a street vendor is about 20 euros), which was one of the main reasons I came, let alone venturing much outside of Buenos Aires where things actually feel like authentic Argentina.

So we'll probably need a redo in a year or so, maybe a bit more organized next time, but honestly, it’s cool just to head out when the stars align—when the right group, the right timing, and a little cash all hit at once.

It’s a tough realization to find out that Keyra Agustin isn't exactly the embodiment of the typical Argentinian woman.😁

Though, personally, I think Argentinians are actually quite alright. They have spirit, and I love their accent—definitely one of the best in the world. It’s actually quite stimulating when I start trying to speak the language.🤣

Did you manage to get out of Buenos Aires, Mendoza, or Cordoba?

Only down in Fire Earth in the south. A fair amount of our people settled there, specifically in southern Argentina and Chile.

all thanks to those whole corona and lockdown shenanigans

If things continue this way, I suppose I might end up like Paul Martinez73, working some odd job in Germany just to afford a nine-dollar sandwich.

Rather than serving drinks to a charming German girl, I imagine I'll be stuck pouring Coca-Cola all day.

Charles Roberts33 said:Argentina was my final stop. I rolled in there totally drained; Chile absolutely wiped me out. During those last few days in Argentina, I was actually stealing bananas from the hostel and living on nothing but crackers—seriously, the only time in my life I've done that—just so I could scrape together enough change for a taxi back to the airport.🤣 🤣

I'm pretty gutted I didn't get to try that famous steak of theirs.

To be perfectly honest, it doesn't seem like anything particularly special that we don't already have back home, or perhaps that's just my own biased perspective.🤣

Their wines are excellent and quite affordable... whenever we were in Buenos Aires, we would indulge in meat almost every time, usually paying for two or three bottles of wine and ending up with a bill of roughly 50 dollars.🤣

In terms of the balance between quality, quantity, and price, I think the gauchos might actually be number one.
The women, however, were somewhat disappointing to me; they seemed rather difficult to connect with.

Charles Roberts33 said:In my entire life, I haven’t stepped foot in a single fast food chain, except for a quick stop at Mustard in Argentina back when I was completely broke and it was the only affordable way to stave off hunger for a few days.
I consider avoiding places like McD's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, KFC, and similar establishments—which essentially prostitute the very idea of nourishment—to be an essential part of maintaining one's mental hygiene.☕.

How broke were you actually, if you found yourself without money for food while visiting Argentina?🤣
It strikes me as one of the most budget-friendly countries I have ever visited regarding food and drink.
