I was wondering if anyone knows what they call it when you get air bubbles in your bloodstream during an infusion? Also, I guess maybe a headache could be one of the symptoms?
I had my liver transplanted about eight years ago, and honestly, I haven't run into any issues since then... at first, during those early two years, my liver numbers were a little bit high, but for quite a long time now, they've been right within the normal range. Only that GGT stays a tiny bit above the limit, but my doctors aren't really worried about it....
So, I have this one question that's been bugging me for a while. I heard once that a transplanted organ has a sort of expiration date, I guess... so I was wondering if that's actually true? Like, can one organ—my liver, in this case—last with me all the way until I'm old, or am I looking at another transplant down the road? I'm only 28 right now, after all...
So, I’ve only scrolled through a few posts because there are honestly so many, but I just wanted to say that I’m alive today because of some incredibly kind people who chose to be organ donors after they passed away.... I’ve been living my life for 6 years now without any issues, thanks to a guy’s liver who was in a terrible car accident and couldn't be saved..... It literally saved my life.... I was only 19 at the time..... so, I guess you could say it's about saving a young life....
Believe me, if one of your own loved ones ended up in that situation, those of you who are against it would probably change your minds in a heartbeat...
As for me, I’m definitely all for donating... I mean, what’s the point in holding onto them if I can save someone's life?
And regarding the whole organ selling thing... honestly, guys, it doesn't happen nearly as much in the US as people think... but then again, people sell all sorts of things these days...
People pass away simply because they can't get an appointment for surgery or they don't have a few thousand dollars to cover the costs, so I guess it's hard to wonder why organ sales even exist...
So... since they actually have specialized treatment at the Mayo Clinic's GI department, and everyone knows that's a thing, I think it's worth looking into. If I'm right, the main guy to see is Dr. Zeljko Krznaric—he’s really dedicated to this field. It might be best if you headed over to the Mayo Clinic, maybe check the first floor? They have an office there, so you could probably just ask around over at the second-floor internal medicine unit to get some info.
So, here’s my situation... I’ve been dealing with esophageal stenosis as a complication from primary Crohn's disease. It’s been a real struggle for about three years now. Honestly, I couldn't even swallow—like, I would literally choke. I couldn't get down even the smallest pill, nothing at all. Since then, I've had four dilatations done... three using a balloon method and one using some kind of tubes, though I guess I don't really know what that specific procedure is called. It was all done at the Mayo Clinic, and things are much better now; I can swallow more or less normally. I mean, food still feels a bit heavy sometimes, but I can take my pills just fine. The only thing was once when an Augmentin tablet got stuck, but I think... well, Augmentin is such a massive pill, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised about that. I stay on top of things with regular endoscopies, and that seems to do the trick.
Well, one of those situations has been dragging on for maybe two and a half years now... they keep saying it's just temporary, and I really hope that stays true in the end..
As for quality of life... yeah, it’s definitely taken a hit, but I guess you eventually just get used to things. You have to accept it, I suppose... because if you don't, that's when you actually start having real problems..
But I can go swimming in the summer without any issues. The only thing is I have to wear a one-piece suit, which isn't exactly my favorite thing, but whatever..
Recreation is fine too. I go outside, I study... everything is pretty much the same as it was before.
The mental side is what gets to me most, though. I always feel this sort of mental block. Some days everything just feels like too much, but it's usually brief, and then I'm back to my old self again..
I talk about it openly, and all my close friends know what's up... so there's really no shame there..
I can't think of anything else to tell you right now... but if there's something specific you want to know, just ask.
