Are the books also lighthearted and funny, or does the plot actually get serious?
Feels like a comedy to me.

Regarding the movie, it’s not really a comedy—they just try too hard to make the trailer look fun.
As for the books, they get darker with every installment. I'd say the last four are straight-up top-tier, hardcore horror.

@ Ashley Hall48 - there aren't 13 sequels, it's 12.

Ashley Hall48 said:What happens when you turn into a vampire against your will? You have to drink human blood just to stay alive, but you don't exactly feel like some horror movie villain. You were just a normal kid—decent, kind, regular. That’s the core struggle for our protagonist, Darren Shan, in this sequel. In the first book, Darren agrees to become a half-vampire just to save his buddy Steve's life. To play by the rules, he has to fake his own death, get buried alive, and then be dug up as a half-human outcast with no home and no friends. This sequel follows Darren's new, lonely life as a half-vampire, fueled by the cursed blood of his mentor, Mr. Crepsley.

Obviously, Darren has a lot to learn about being supernatural. For instance, his fangs won't grow, even though he thought that was part of the deal. He can't shapeshift or fly, and garlic just gives him bad breath... The real kicker comes when he joins the freak show, the very act that caused all the trouble for him and Steve.

Between the werewolf, Snake Boy, and a whole gallery of weirdos, things are going to get wild. If you aren't bored already, reading this sequel will make you actually care about Darren—a kid who'd do anything for his friends.

don't be 100% sure the plot hasn't changed. On IMDb, the author said the changes are huge and you should watch the movie without any bias. Basically, don't think about the books; just view it as something completely new.

Finally, the movie's happening. Been waiting two years for this 🙂

Grabbed all 12 books on Amazon, they're killer 👍
I'm officially entering my misanthrope era in Psychology ·

silverbison62, yeah, I honestly think being an only child plays a huge part—spending your whole childhood alone at home just teaches you how to entertain yourself.
I was low-key terrified when I moved in with my boyfriend—like, how am I gonna deal with this guy 24/7? But hey, it actually turned out fine.
There’s also this other thing that drives me crazy about people—hyperactivity. I just don't get it. I have a few friends who can't wrap their heads around how I can just sit there staring into space for hours. For them, if they aren't doing something every 30 minutes, their entire day is ruined because they're bored 😲

Nah, I wouldn't go that far. I grew up sharing a room with my sister the whole time... 😢
So, let me introduce myself. Name's Borna, and I'm just a lite version of a misanthrope. I've got maybe four friends I actually hang out with. I hit the clubs once a month max; the rest of the time, I'm just chilling at home. Bottom line? Being a misanthrope isn't some sickness. It's a lifestyle. People just don't get it.😁

She killed it in Underworld, so I’m hoping she’s at least halfway decent in this one.
