Does a draft actually cause illness? in Health ·
draft (drft) n. - a current of air in an enclosed area.
I keep hearing this thing about pressure changes happening whenever there's a draft. Apparently, it can actually cause some damage...?
Side effects of detoxing? in Health ·
Donna Turner8, I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no way a decent detox can include Coca-Cola! If you actually want to cleanse your system, you need to be eating stuff that cleanses the body—like, okay, green tea works, but you also need leafy greens, eating barley every single morning, just general whole grains... all of that stuff helps you regulate your hormones and fights off that exhaustion caused by being out of whack. Seriously, go get some better advice from a nutritionist or maybe even just your own doctor.
Dealing with depression in Health ·
wearyowl17 said:How do you actually help someone struggling with depression? Everyone around her is noticing how off she’s acting—she’s pushing everyone away, shutting down, and refusing any kind of support... We tried suggesting she see a specialist, kept it really gentle and tactful, but nothing works. There’s just no progress. It’s getting worse by the day; she won't listen to anyone. We want to help her so badly, but we're stuck. We’ve been trying to be patient since she’s younger, and honestly, she blames us for everything. She keeps telling us to leave her alone and insists she’s fine, but it’s obvious from the way she’s acting that she’s completely broken—just sad and defeated. She’s developed this aversion to everyone and refuses to talk to anyone.

What should we do??? A worried friend

Honestly, journaling could be a total game changer for her. It’s great because she doesn't have to deal with anyone if she just isn't up for it—she doesn't even have to talk, you know? It's just so liberating to get everything out on paper and really clear your head. Here is a helpful link:

Psychiatrist or Psychologist? in Health ·
So, look, if you want to see a psychiatrist, you’re probably going to need a referral from your doctor first. But psychologists? You can actually find them at those community health centers or even local free counseling clinics where you can just walk right in and ask for a chat, some advice, or actual therapy sessions. Honestly, your primary care physician should be able to point you in the right direction once they hear about what you've been going through.

Older moms' kids... any advice? in Health ·
My mom had me when she was 35, I had my kid at 36, and even my husband's mom was 39 when she gave birth—all of them totally fine and healthy. You’re honestly overthinking this way too much. Just go for a walk or something 😉
Super dry hands and palms - any advice? in Health ·
So, I found this incredible cream at a local apothecary. Here’s the trick: slather it on thick right before bed after washing your hands really well. You definitely need to throw on some cotton gloves afterward—seriously, the stuff is super greasy, and you won't be able to get anything done if you try to use your hands normally. Just sleep in them. Do this a few nights in a row and I swear, you'll feel like a whole new person!

Look, everything seems totally fine on paper, right? But you still have this nagging feeling deep down that something just isn't clicking. And honestly, you don't even want to deal with it because digging through all that stuff is just exhausting. So you just go out for a nice dinner, enjoy the food—because let's face it, it's delicious—and you try to push it aside. You try to forget that there was something wrong, something that was just... bothering you somewhere deep inside.

Look, everything sounds great and all—as long as we’re sober. But once that moment hits? There isn't a soul on this planet who can stop me from making a straight shot for the Nutella. I'm serious. And then afterward, I feel absolutely miserable. It's like a total addiction fix.
And that other thing, that void we try to bury under mountains of junk food? That missing piece of ourselves? Half the time, we don't even have a clue what we're actually looking for. Because on the surface, everything looks perfectly fine. But deep down, things are totally messed up, honestly...

I honestly feel like I’m right there in the trenches with everyone in this thread. I’m struggling with it too, but I really believe the best way to start "fixing" things is just finding the answer to one question: why? You can definitely spot a pattern in how you act or find that specific trigger that hits right before the Hunger kicks in out of nowhere. That’s step one... just understanding it. Then comes step two, which is way harder—actually accepting yourself and realizing that we’re basically trying to silence our feelings with food. That’s where I’m stuck right now, but I’ll let you guys know how it goes 😁
There’s this one great book that does a killer job explaining the nature and the whole "behavior" of addiction. Doesn't matter if it's alcohol, shopping, food, or drugs—it’s all essentially the same thing. It's Caroline Knapp: *Drinking: A Love Story*. Here’s my quick take on it:

Why is everyone getting sick lately? in Health ·

See, there you go. That’s just plain wrong. People have known better since the dawn of modern science.

And honestly, that bolded part? Total nonsense. If you’re actually going to sit here and talk about how energy affects matter, then you need to be talking about Natural Sciences. We're talking thermodynamics, materials physics, heat transfer, the photoelectric effect—real stuff.

But yeah, clearly you don't even know what energy actually is. 🙂

Why are you being like this? What's with the attitude? You think you're some kind of expert trying to lecture me when I'm clearly just learning? Thanks a lot.

Terry Cruz3, what’s your take on things like unexpressed anger, you know, or all that pain you just don't let out by crying? Where does that stuff actually go? Or even messy family drama that never gets settled, or just that constant, heavy dread about what the future holds...

What I find so fascinating is how we’re raised here in the States—you know, as kids, we’re basically taught that having dark or "bad" thoughts is a sin, like it somehow makes you a fundamentally rotten person. Then hits adolescence, right? And suddenly you start realizing that feeling every single crazy, messy thing is actually just part of being human. It’s actually healthy to let those "ugly" emotions out. And now, fast forward to today, and we’re back at square one learning all over again, but for totally different reasons. Now it's about understanding the actual impact our mindset has on our lives and our physical health. Like, how our own projections can practically magnetize the very things we’re terrified of. But look, you can't just white-knuckle it by banning those thoughts or fears from your head. That’s not how the brain works. If you try that, you just end up as some frustrated wreck living in total denial, which honestly just invites physical illness because all those unprocessed emotions just sit there and fester in your body. No, the real trick is learning how to truly *know* that things will turn out okay—learning to see those massive obstacles as messages or stepping stones for growth instead!

Beyond just what we eat—and let’s be real, there is so much junk we shove into our bodies without even thinking about it—there's this whole other side to health that people are actually starting to take seriously now, even in mainstream American medicine. It's the idea that our thoughts, our fears, those deep-seated emotions we try to bury... they all play a massive role in how our physical bodies actually function. I'm not trying to put everything into neat little boxes or label stuff as "alternative" or whatever, because honestly, labels just get in the way. But does anyone else want to dive into how energy actually interacts with matter? I mean, at its core, isn't that exactly what metaphysics is all about?
