It’s easy enough to hold that perspective when you're in your thirties and in peak health. Or so I suppose.
And when I say "the elderly," I'm not just referring to the eighty-plus crowd, but also people twenty years younger than that, who have relatively good years ahead of them and a health situation that would normally be under control, yet has now become critical.
Not to mention the trauma being dealt to healthcare workers, who, quite frankly, are being paid next to nothing for the work they're doing right now.
So, apparently nearly 14 percent of the 3,000 people tested here in New York have antibodies for the Coronavirus, according to Governor Andrew Cuomo this Thursday.
These are just preliminary findings from a study where they randomly tested folks out at grocery stores, which Cuomo mentioned during his daily press briefing.
"Basically, it means these people were actually infected and then went on to develop antibodies," he explained.
The Governor suggested that these numbers might imply the mortality rate is actually lower than what everyone’s been assuming, because if you look at the actual infection count based on this, we're talking about 2.7 million people having been hit by it.
"If you take the current death toll, which is sitting at 15,500, that would put the fatality rate at about 0.5 percent," he said, though he was quick to point out that these are all just preliminary estimates. He also threw in a warning that the death count could "be higher" since the current tally doesn't account for anyone who might have passed away from Coronavirus at home.

Besides, even if I were to grant that this figure is actually representative, 14% seems rather meager when you consider the sheer chaos unfolding in the hospitals and how fast the sirens are starting to wail. If we face even two more waves like this one, we won't even hit half of that.
I just sat there staring, sipping my coffee and wondering what comes next. But yeah, it definitely shook.
Regardless, seismologists were actually expressing a bit of concern because we didn't see any significant aftershocks following a tremor of this magnitude. I assume they mean anything over a 3.0.

Look, I’ll attribute this to the idea that you shouldn't trust a hungry man—and thank God for that—but this has become a very real (and growing) issue now that everyone is stuck without any way to escape.
I suspect most of us are noticing tensions that weren't there before, both within ourselves and among our own families. Now, just imagine how an extreme situation like this affects those who already regularly act out their insecurities through various forms of violence against the more vulnerable members of their household.
That’s just a general observation. To get specific, a friend of mine works in social services, and the situation is worse than bad, primarily because domestic violence has slipped even further down the state's list of priorities than it usually is.

My point was that burgers in America are pretty much mediocre everywhere, so if someone tries to sell you a burger for $9 in Washington, D.C., and you fall for it, that’s just pure stupidity. Some of the best burger joints in the World have prices two to five times higher than that. Maybe it'll click for you now... 🤷 Besides, any actual chef would agree with me on this burger thing, but if Amanda Evans2 thinks she's somehow smarter or better than everyone else, that's her own issue. She accuses me of being condescending, yet every single one of her posts feels that way—plus, she adds insults on top of it. It doesn't bother me when people do that to me, but the second it happens to her, she starts crying and calling people out here.
