Overclocking (Main Thread) in Desktops ·
wiredmarlin5 said:Oof, my mistake on the link...this 😁

True, but even with a 945... I wouldn't expect to pull 3GHz out of that. 😉

Yeah, exactly 🙄 🙂

I mean, it’s not built for extreme overclocking, but honestly, a year ago you couldn't even grab a decent burger for $400, let alone a motherboard with CF. ☕

It only has 2 DDR2 slots? 🙄

Speaking of motherboards...
Check this out

$113,ATX, and it even has a CF slot!!! 😲

Buddy, take a look at this and let me know what you think about it.

slyheron13 said:How can you call that neat? You've got cables sticking out everywhere, a fan hanging out of the case, the DVD drive is protruding, and that neon glow is practically blinding you while you're trying to work at the computer!

Nothing is sticking out here.😉

The faceplate has been removed.☕

Edit: I just remembered that previously your tower was leaning against the power supply.
I see you have rotated the chassis and installed two fans.
It would actually be best if you placed one between the towers.

feraltrucker5 said:Well, that should be related to the PCI-E bus settings; it shouldn't really impact the GPU overclocking itself.

It actually does have an effect.☕
If that option is disabled, I can push my card to the maximum frequency allowed by the software without any issues. In that scenario, the GPU frequencies stay at their default levels regardless of how much you increase them in something like RivaTuner—GPU-Z confirms this behavior.

However, if the option is enabled, the card behaves "normally," meaning the overclock actually takes effect.

Did you not realize?

For instance, if my BIOS is set to the factory defaults, I am unable to overclock my graphics card.
I have to manually enable the specific option within the BIOS first.

Jesse Alvarez32 said:How can I overclock my AMD Radeon HD 2600 XT? When I try adjusting the frequency in the control center and run a test, I hit accept, but the frequency just stays exactly where it was. The ATI tray tool won't even show me the frequency unless the main tool is running, and RivaTuner doesn't seem to have that option at all.

On certain motherboards, you actually have to go into the BIOS and manually enable the option for graphics card overclocking.

And what exactly did you change? 🙂

Are you using the stock cooler?
You can actually get some really impressive overclocking results. Your only real hurdle is going to be the temperature.
If you just pick up a decent liquid cooler, you won't have to worry about it at all.

I didn't even suspect 😉

In the meantime, I've already managed to take it off three times without tearing anything.

Intel Core i7 2 x3.0GHz

THANKS!

Which specific model are we talking about?

Is it an E6850 or an Intel Core i5?

Also, what kind of CPU cooler are you using?
Please let me know the rest of your specs and your power supply.

Just a quick disclaimer: if you end up tearing anything while doing this, I can't be held responsible. 😬

I gave it a little try...
It’s not particularly loose. In fact, there isn't even a millimeter of movement.

steelsailor3 said:When you go to take the mask off, just grab it from the bottom edge; there's plenty of room there to get a good grip and pull it away.

That opening is actually meant for a 120mm fan located by the drive cage to help draw air in.
I actually sanded that part down to make the hole larger, which improved the airflow and helped quiet things down a bit.

You just need to pull the entire faceplate off; it’s held in place by those plastic clips (I can't recall the exact term),
there aren't any actual screws involved, though you will have to unscrew that silver trim piece
on the front, along with the USB ports and the headphone/mic jacks.
As for the FireWire port, you could probably find a way to screw or glue it onto the front.
Just buy a bracket, take it apart, and mount it up front.
It just takes a little bit of effort and patience. 😉

Thanks. It seemed strange to me why there was a cutout provided when nothing was actually on the PCB. 🤷

And I can definitely handle this DIY fix without any issues. 😉

Joseph Carter9 said:I'm not sure how practical that really is... once those summer days hit 95°F and you're just sitting there, sweat starts dripping off your hands, the grip gets hot, and then it starts getting all tacky. Then dust settles on the sticky surface, so you have to wipe it off, strip the grip, and start the whole process over again...

I've been doing some light browsing lately... 🙂

The big question is: which mouse should I settle on before summer arrives? ☕

wiredmarlin5 said:I didn't realize you had it positioned behind you. I just don't see why you'd want it in front if it's already behind you.

Well, the PC is tucked away in the corner. My desk is pretty large, and I find myself having to brace my elbow against the table just to reach the front panel ports.
I'm curious to hear how everyone else handles their setup, since I wasn't the one who picked out this case or handled the component layout.

Mr. Moderator (😍), yes I have

By the way, what kind of point is that even supposed to make if my motherboard already has Firewire built-in? 😂
PC Modding in Desktops ·
@ steelsailor3

Is it possible to remove the front bezel on that MS case?
I don't seem to see any visible screws holding it in place.. 🤔

One more thing, though.
On the front right side, where the mic, speaker, and USB ports are located, there appears to be a dedicated slot for a Firewire Bracket.
In my unit, that area is just empty 🤷
My motherboard has a Firewire port and I was hoping to hook everything up, but I can't find a way to connect it.
