Question for Nice

So, looking at the topic of the day over on the US side of things: anyone following the World Cup? Something pretty wild went down where a user actually threatened a female user with a weapon and said they were tracking her down in LA.

The user was banned immediately, strictly following the rules thanks to some quick thinking and fast action from our moderator, Latitude.

I’m starting this thread because I’m genuinely curious about something—there isn't really an answer for this in the official forum rules.

Here’s my question:
Is it considered "normal" to offer a bit of leniency regarding those horrific threats if a permanently banned user manages to be civil in their next incarnation?
Between the lines, one of the moderators basically hinted that this might actually happen.

I have to admit, I haven't really seen stuff like this tolerated on other message boards—or is it just standard practice here to leave these kinds of calls up to the moderator's discretion?

Sometimes, the moderators might decide to give a banned user a second chance on a sort of probationary period—which, let's be honest, can feel like it lasts forever—just to see if they've actually learned their lesson and grown a bit more sensible. But when it comes to the truly toxic individuals, the ones who commit genuinely repulsive offenses and refuse to learn from their mistakes? We don't let them back in, period. In my opinion, this specific guy definitely shouldn't be getting any more chances, and if he’s already been given a few "reincarnations" on the Forum, I really think it’s time we put an end to it once and for all.
