Question about reporting posts

I picked up a warning the other day because I quoted and replied to a post that I actually reported myself.

The post has been deleted—looks like a moderator stepped in...

Does this mean if we report a post, we aren't supposed to quote it or engage with the user?

It’s literal hate speech and follows the standard three-day suspension rules. I don't see what the big deal is.

Look, I wasn't aware that was against the rules—lesson learned. Today I reported a post for a different reason entirely without even replying to the thread.

Since there’s an active discussion happening on the forum, it’s pretty obvious that the posts we actually bother to report are the ones that triggered a reaction... so naturally, those are the ones we respond to.
I've never been flagged for this before, so I'm just asking... and taking note.

How are you even supposed to tell if a post you're quoting is gonna get flagged? Like, how do you know if a report will actually stick?

I mean, it’s pretty common sense, isn't it? You shouldn't be quoting a post that's bad enough to warrant a ban or a strike... because once you quote it, that garbage is now sitting in two different places for even more people to see. Plus, suddenly your own post becomes part of the problem.

My standard approach in these situations has typically been to reply without using a quote at all.
The logic is simple—you operate under the assumption that the reported content will be scrubbed, even though that isn't always a guaranteed outcome...

Yeah, it doesn't have to. Sometimes nothing even happens.
Like, maybe a post stays up but still gets flagged.
But when you're replying, you honestly never know what's gonna go down.
Anyway, I was totally clueless too.
(Now I just gotta learn the rules )

I learned my lesson the hard way.

I once got flagged because I quoted a perfectly fine post, but it contained a link to something prohibited—it was about a TV show, but the linked article mentioned the book the series was based on, which violated the site rules regarding copyrighted material 🤣).

So, sometimes it is simply easier to skip the direct quote—just tag @PreviousPoster or something similar instead. 😬

Stop being so dramatic, you know exactly what the real issue is here.

Nobody’s actually going to start sweating the small stuff just because someone was looking the wrong way at the wrong time during a busy shift; it just gets wiped away and forgotten.

But when some guy decides to dump a load of total garbage, and then people react by giving him a taste of his own medicine before finally filing a report—usually followed by that classic "why do you let this happen?" routine—that’s just straight-up trolling. It drives everyone absolutely insane.
