Here is a question for the thinkers out there...
What do you all think—is it better to be shrewd and clever, even if it means being a bit cold-hearted, or is it better to be warm and emotional, even if that makes you a little naive?

Which way would you rather go: being sharp and savvy but a little cold-hearted, or being warm and empathetic but a bit dim-witted?

I’m honestly not sure there’s a "better" option here. It feels more like we’re just stuck with who we are, even if there's a slim chance to tweak things over time. Personally, I consider myself pretty smart, but my emotions tend to get the better of me sometimes, leading me to do some pretty questionable things.

Do you think it's better to be smart and logical but a bit cold, or to be warm and emotional but a little dim?

Honestly, neither! It's much easier to just be clueless and heartless—then nothing can get to you!

There’s a certain wisdom in being calculated and perhaps a bit detached. It minimizes damage—both to others and to oneself—compared to someone who is merely impulsive and driven by emotion.
True wisdom aims for neutrality. It won't offer you a shoulder to cry on, but it certainly won't stab you in the back. An emotional person, however, can easily spiral into jealousy, resentment, or outright insults, simply because they can't control their own moods.

Not being anyone at all is also an option, isn't it...?

None of that really hits the mark...
I don't think we exist solely within those specific combinations, you know?

We don't exist solely within those kinds of frameworks.

Fair enough. I'm both dim-witted and cold-hearted.

I know those kinds of days all too well... or sometimes they turn into weeks...
But there are bright spots too, I promise.
Everyone goes through their own thing, and personally, I’ve never been a fan of people trying to shove everyone into these neat little permanent categories...

Any combination of feelings is fine by me. Just maybe don't broadcast it to the whole world. (Reddit doesn't count, though. 🕺)

Do you think it's better to be sharp and smart but kind of cold, or just go with being warm and emotional even if it means being a little bit dim?

I guess I don't really know which one is better, so maybe I'll just ask what works for you.

Probably best to find a middle ground. Use your head, but don't go ignoring how you feel. Depends on the situation, I guess.

Wisdom will carry you all the way to neutrality; it won't offer you a shoulder to cry on, but it also won't stab you in the back, whereas a fool can descend into the depths of jealousy, resentment, and injury due to their volatile emotional state.

It is true. I allowed myself to be foolishly emotional during one particular phase, purely as an experiment (even though that isn't my usual nature), and that display resulted in massive stupidity, the consequences of which I am still dealing with today. Never again! 😵

Logic must come first, while emotions should be handled moderately—and only after logic has analyzed everything and granted permission to release a sensible emotion. 😬

True wisdom cannot exist without depth, and you simply can't find any real depth without the presence of raw emotion.

I’m clearly not equipped to offer any profound insights here. My contributions to this Reddit thread are nothing more than mindless filler. 😢

"Being stupid because you're emotional" is just a polite way of saying "blinded by your own selfish desires."

If these are truly all the options on the table, then I’ll pass entirely.

Honestly, neither.

If you look at things from a more holistic perspective, you start to see how all these elements tie together—and I’m talking about healthy individuals here, not pathological cases or people who have been so deeply traumatized that they’re just calculating moves to manipulate others as a defense mechanism (though, granted, some traits will naturally be more pronounced than others in any given person).

It feels a bit pointless to label someone as "stupid" just because they have a warmer temperament, or "smart" simply because they’re colder; that sounds like a calculated attempt to overhaul your own personality after a bad experience, perhaps because you were originally the more emotional or sensitive type and now you’re trying to distance yourself from who you actually are (I mean, sure, people can change, but I’m referring to those baseline constitutional predispositions).

Since I’ve wandered into philosophical territory—emotions aren't exactly "stupid," they’re just occasionally misleading because they're rooted in the irrational, and when someone is operating in that mode, logic and Ace usually take a backseat, making it a much more unstable state compared to someone who stays cool-headed under pressure... But if being that way starts causing real damage to your relationships, then you really do need to become aware of those repetitive behavioral loops and try with everything you've got to "break the cycle," which, let's face it, takes an immense amount of willpower, introspection, and actual work.

To make a long story short: it’s perfectly fine to be exactly who you are, provided you aren't hurting yourself in the process.👍

Who actually gets to decide if we’re just being self-destructive?
