Hey everyone, I could really use some advice on picking out a new monitor. Right now, there's a sale over at Best Buy on this Apple model for $513... does anyone know if that's actually a good deal? Or would it be smarter to grab that Dell one with the great specs that's currently sitting at Walmart for $483?

Up until this point, I've been stuck using these absolute ancient, bottom-of-the-barrel monitors—so honestly, whatever I end up buying, I'm sure it'll feel like a massive upgrade 😁

It’s a 30 percent discount, which basically means $513...you'll see the savings applied at the very end once you enter the promo code during checkout...

Look, even with a 30% discount, that monitor has been sitting on shelves for nearly a year at around $1,600-$567 😁
To be fair, they aren't exactly flooding the market right now. It’s one of those tactics big-box retailers or warehouse clubs use to move inventory...

At the end of the day, those models are basically twins; it really doesn't matter which one you pick up.

To be fair, they aren't exactly flooding the market right now. Usually, you see those kinds of deals pop up at big-box retailers or massive warehouse stores like Costco...

At the end of the day, those models are pretty much siblings; honestly, it doesn't matter much which one you pick up.

But looking back over the last six months, I haven't seen an Apple model like this pop up at this price point anywhere else... though, I have to admit, I'm feeling a bit bummed about the 24-inch size—it would have been so much better if it were a 27-inch version.😵

A 27" screen is honestly overkill for 1080p resolution. Most people find that 1440p is the sweet spot for a 27" setup. That said, if you decide to go with 1440p at 144Hz, you’re going to need a total beast of a graphics card, which really drives up the cost of the whole build.

Timothy Kim60 said:Honestly, a 27" screen is just way too much real estate for 1080p—it starts looking a bit fuzzy if you're sitting close. Most people I know really aim for 1440p when they go with a 27" size. But then again, hitting 144Hz at 1440p requires a total beast of a graphics card, which definitely bumps up the price tag for the whole setup.

Does the MSI Radeon RX 570 Armor 4G OC, 4GB GDDR5 actually run okay?🙄

It’s perfectly fine if you're just sticking to 1080p, but honestly, don't even bother looking at anything higher than that. 😉 Especially when you factor in gaming.

Edit:

If you're trying to run 1440p at 144 Hz, you simply aren't going to see those numbers with an RX 570.
At 1080p, you can expect to hover around 80 fps, though that really depends on which specific title you're playing.

At 1080p, you'll probably hover around 80 fps—though, of course, that really depends on which specific title you're playing.

Thanks for the insight... so, does that mean this Apple unit over at the warehouse is definitely the best buy for $500 this weekend?

Quick update: Well, I actually just pulled the trigger and bought it—so now we wait to see how it really performs! 😁

If you’re aiming for 1440p at 144 fps, you really need to be looking at a GPU with at least the power of a GTX 1070Ti.

There is just no way you're hitting 1440p at 144 fps with an RX 570 in any modern title, unless you're playing League of Legends, maybe. xD

Now, if you're sticking to a 1080p monitor, you might be able to scrape by with the RX 570 here and there, but I honestly don't think you'll see 144 fps in much of anything. You'll definitely stay above 60 fps, though, so that's a win. 😉

Honestly, it doesn't matter which one you went with between those two; on paper, they’re practically twins.

They both check all the same boxes: 1080p resolution, a VA panel, 144 Hz refresh rate, Sync support, and a 1 ms response time.

You aren't looking at two different monitors here. They're basically identical.

Yeah, those two you linked are absolute steals if you're aiming for 1080p at 144Hz...

Hitting 1440p while maintaining over 100 FPS would likely be limited to older AAA titles or lighter, less demanding modern games...

Thanks so much for the help,

At this rate, I’ll probably be limping along like this for another six months before I finally pull the trigger on a new monitor 😁

Once the dust settles and I've had some time to really get used to the setup, I'd be more than happy to post some photos or a full review if you guys are interested.

My new monitor finally arrived! It looks absolutely perfect—really solid build quality and quite elegant, too. I haven't actually had a spare moment to sit down and fine-tune all the gaming settings and whatnot just yet; I'll admit, I'm a bit out of my element when it comes to that technical side of things. Once I get everything dialed in, I'll be sure to post a proper update for you all.😉

My sister needs a new monitor for graphic design. Her old Samsung is finally giving up on her.
She’s on a tight budget, so price is a major factor. It needs to hit the essentials for design work—accurate colors and decent resolution.

We've narrowed it down to a few options. Which one actually makes sense?
