BenQ is fine, but honestly, for that kind of moneyβ€”or maybe just a little moreβ€”you can definitely find something better. You should really look for something with an IPS panel. Philips or Dell would be solid choices.

Just see what works for you, but make sure to double-check the port selection on the monitor...

Check those out and see what works for you, but pay close attention to the port selection.

Thanks. πŸ™‚
If the Secretary of the Treasury gives me the green light, I'm grabbing this Philips. If not, I'll just fall back on the BenQ.
Both monitors are actually overkill for what I need, but since I'm not some hardware expert, I just really want something with a big screen. πŸ˜‰

A friend of mine is trying to breathe some life into an old junker, but he really needs more RAM to make it usable. Does anyone know which sticks are compatible with this motherboard? Any specific brands or specs you'd recommend??

The board is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L

It takes DDR2 800MHz, though 1066MHz should work too. He checked Craigslist, but I doubt finding anything new is viable; if it exists, it'll be overpriced. It’s an LGA 775 board designed for Intel processors, things like the Q6600 or E8500.

PS, watch out. He was browsing a lot of DDR2 memory on Craigslist that's specifically for AMD, so don't buy the wrong thing. Generally, you'd want to grab a 2x2GB kit.

https://www.craigslist.org/ram-memory...listing-22035383, something like this is what he's looking for!

Are any of the RAM modules from this link actually compatible? If so, which specific one? It looks to me like the ones in the first photo would work with my setup.

They should all be fine. Though, one really ought to ask the seller if the RAM is intended for Intel systems, just to rule out any compatibility issues with AMD modules.

What a joke. I've never heard of RAM being tied to a specific processor typeβ€”let's just ignore ECC for this conversation.

RAM is a component that either works with everything or it doesn't work at all. There isn't a middle ground.
If it’s validated for the motherboard mentioned in the post, then it doesn't matter if it's AMD or Intel...

Unfortunately, DDR2 RAM is a bit of a headache to deal with. I ran into some real issues when I was trying to sell my old DDR2 sticks, and a buddy of mine had a similar struggle when he was picking up some DDR2 for his new motherboard. It’s just not like DDR3, where you can pretty much plug things in anywhere and expect them to work without a fight.

We're talking about those high-density RAM modules you see floating around eBay, which they label as "AMD only" because they're likely optimized specifically for their chipsets or just offer better compatibility there.

That's a niche case. RAM should work on both AMD and Intel right out of the box.πŸ•Ί

It doesn't need verifying. High-density AMD only memory is designed specifically for AMD platforms; on an Intel S775 platform, it simply won't function, barring some extremely rare exceptions.

Think about the cost for RAM manufacturers if they had to "license" modules for one specific platform. It would kill their sales volume. Sure, maybe some boards don't play nice with certain sticks, but there isn't such a thing as dedicated AMD RAM versus dedicated Intel RAM.

My old monitor finally kicked the bucket, so I dug out my Samsung P2370 to replace it, but now I’ve got zero sound. πŸ™ˆ
Since I don't have a DVI cable lying around, I used a VGA adapter, and that's when the audio vanished. I'm trying to run this through an old Sony setup, and honestly, I haven't the slightest clue what's going on or how to fix this mess.
Long story short,

Help!!

Robert Rodriguez2 said:You have to consider the massive overhead for chassis manufacturers if they had to "license" modules for a single unified platform. It would limit their sales potential significantly. While certain boards might not play nice with specific chassis types, there isn't really such a thing as a dedicated chassis specifically for AMD versus one for Intel.

The whole issue with DDR2 memory being incompatible is mostly because the AMD versions lacked an integrated memory controller on the chip itself. Consequently, when you try to run them on an Intel board, the system simply won't recognize them. It’s a peculiar quirk specific to DDR2; you don't see these kinds of headaches once you move up to DDR3.

The audio drivers went haywire during the initial handshake between my PC and the monitor. Being the genius I am, I immediately downloaded Driver Easy just so this "stupid machine" could tell me I was already running the latest version. I spent hours digging through every setting imaginableβ€”shoutout to Dennis for not giving me any grief about itβ€”and it wasn't until after midnight that it hit me: usually, when things glitch like this, you just need to toggle the device off and back on to reset everything. 😳
The saddest part? It wasn't until I could finally hear crying 😬 again that I realized I dealt with this exact same headache on my old workstation. πŸ™ˆ

Quick question for the group. I was wondering if anyone here knows whether dual channel mode will actually kick in if I mix a 4GB stick with a 2GB stick, or am I forced to run identical 4GB plus 4GB modules? Right now, I've got 4GB installed, but I'm thinking about tossing in an extra 2GB module. Specifically, this is running on an H81 chipset.
