Mods on 'Various' are closing threads whenever they feel like it

On this subforum

There used to be two threads here. One was for user photos where people posted pics and commented, and the other was a chat for those same users. That chat has been locked for a while now, and now both are closed...

The reason the chat got shut down is because the moderator couldn't keep up. He just closed it, saying he couldn't track everything. There were some minor arguments over stuff like trading cards and whatnot, but nothing major. Basically, he couldn't keep up with the warnings and moderation. Translation: he isn't active enough to handle these three specific threads—the photos, the comments, and the user chat.

The moderator obviously doesn't have enough time, which is fine, but it's not okay to just lock threads whenever he feels like it because he's unable to moderate a chat. I suggest assigning another moderator who actually hangs out in the chat and comment sections to handle things properly.

I’m suggesting Getufko online. He's around day and night, every single day. He's fair and rational, and he could actually moderate what the other mods can't handle in the off-topic subforum.

The topics I'm talking about are closed solely because the moderators can't manage them. Yeah, you'll get little squabbles here and there, but those are just minor provocations that need a warning, just like 99% of any other subforum on this site. Unfortunately, since the mods aren't active in these threads, they just lock them whenever they feel like it once too many pages pile up...

I'm totally on board with the moderator's call to shut this thread down. The "Various" PDF already has its own dedicated chat, and I really don't see the point in having multiple threads cluttering things up. I actually mentioned this exact thing to you in a private message back on March 2nd, so there really wasn't any need to spin up a whole new topic about it. Thanks for the suggestion regarding the moderator role, though—we'll touch base with the current moderator and the supermoderator to get everything sorted out.

all the chat threads are locked because they were active, but now there isn't a single one open. Seems like you aren't even allowed to post in them anymore—they just get shut down whenever the moderators feel like it because they can't keep up with monitoring everything... so they just lock them up at will🤣

Thanks for locking this thread. Seriously, I hope nobody takes this personally—I certainly don't—but honestly? It’s just gross. Even if people post photos because they want to see who they're actually talking to and put a face to the name, it’s totally nasty when a handful of lowlifes decide to throw "compliments" at people like that. Plus, they clearly don't know how private messages work, so they turn this entire discussion into their own little playground for inappropriate chatter...
Now, some "genius" out there might try to claim my comment was just a reaction to people commenting on my photos... but don't flatter yourselves...
It’s honestly just hilarious to me. Why even be part of threads where people are dissecting individuals they barely know (in most cases)—let alone people who don't know them back? It’s all just being handled by these vulgar, bottom-of-the-barrel creeps who are basically just looking for someone to exploit.

I really don't want this to spiral into some massive off-topic mess that becomes my headache, I was honestly just pointing out the WAY a few people were being super vulgar in their comments... yeah, the ones I actually managed to get through without losing it...
but hey, maybe it’s just how they were raised or they’ve just spent too many years hanging out in these types of circles...🙂...but look, if the moderators say it's okay, then fine by me!🙂

I'm not complaining about the pictures. I don't give a damn about that.

The complaint is about the chat being locked because the moderators can't keep up. That chat is slammed, a few of us are constantly typing away in there and nobody else even joins. Besides, I've never even seen you in the chat, so I don't know what you're even talking about.

As for that first photo of yours—it was honestly pretty rough. Posting a shot that blurry online makes me wonder what you were actually hoping to achieve,

Honestly, though, just changing leadership isn't the silver bullet here. Things have spiraled quite a bit because those provocateurs weren't reined in when they first started acting up. Now, we're at a point where trying to foster a healthy, normal conversation feels like an uphill battle.

If you really want my two cents, I’d send in a "heavy hitter" 😍 to prove they can actually handle the heat and maintain order in the main chat 😬
Then, if they can hold their own there, maybe we could let them host a dedicated thread in the off-topic section 🙂

Pobs is great and all, but they aren't even hanging out in the chat. We need a moderator who actually shows up to the chat, otherwise they can't moderate anything and just end up shutting things down... which totally breaks the forum rules. You can't just close a chat because someone feels like there isn't an active one on the subforum right now. It's various... rustydrifter10 claims there is one, but I don't see it anywhere

No, we aren't going to simply calm down. Instead, they should just assign us a moderator to keep us in line so they don't have to shut the whole chat down.

Personally, I am all for the chat, but if we could all just temper our passions a little, everything would be much simpler.

It might not seem obvious at first glance, but Pobs informed us about it once before. So, feel free to continue the conversation there. If you have the guts. And I know you do. 😁

That’s exactly the point. I was being damn tolerant—maybe too much—and now it’s reached that stage where my entire job as a moderator, or even just hanging out on the forums, has basically devolved into nothing more than lurking in the chat. Is that really what we're doing here?

That simply isn't true. If you want a perfect example, just look at those adult chat rooms on Reddit; users there report every single little deviation they encounter, yet they only end up flagging maybe two instances a year. 🙂

This thread is meant for the folks actually showing up in the other discussions. You guys aren't really participating in any of them... except for a few outliers...

I don't care if someone drops 500 posts a day. The issue is the filth and the disrespect... then you've got the mods hunting down whoever started the mess three hundred posts back. Typical...

Why not just make it simple? Just report the posts where people are swearing or fighting and hand out the bans then. You don't even need to read the whole thread... just hit the reported ones and be done with it...
