I’m thinking about picking up a new ASUS ROG gaming motherboard—my main question is whether it’ll play nice with my current setup?
Here’s what I’ve got:
GTX 770
LC6560GP3 power supply
6GB DDR3 RAM
i7 2600 (non-k) 3.40GHz 8MB Cache

Thanks in advance!

Oh, I should probably mention—I’m one of those people who cares just as much about how the parts look as how they actually perform!

Everything looks compatible, so you’re good to go without any worries. If I were in your shoes, though—just a thought—I'd probably grab two 4GB sticks of RAM to take advantage of dual channel mode, or maybe just one single 8GB stick.

Is this the power supply you're looking at?

Maybe I could just grab another 4GB stick from the Corsair Vengeance set I’m running right now—I guess that might work.
Yeah, it's definitely that power supply.

You can easily find this kind of info right on the motherboard manufacturer's website without needing to start a whole new thread. CLICK But to save you the trouble, yeah, it'll work. 🙂

I mean, I know I can figure it out, but I want to be 100% sure here—I really can't afford to mess this up.
By the way, quick question: do I actually need to format everything and reinstall macOS after swapping out the motherboard?

If you aren't using the exact same motherboard you had before, then yeah, I guess you might run into issues.

I could use a little more help here! The motherboard I picked out is totally out of stock, and I can't find it anywhere else online. Does anyone know of another board with an LGA1155 socket that has a red and black theme? I'd be super grateful if someone could track one down—and if there really isn't anything in red and black, I guess just a plain black one would work too.

Personally, whenever I swap out a motherboard, I always go ahead and wipe the hard drive—I mean, if you're switching to a different chipset, you're looking at an entirely different set of drivers and all that stuff, right?

They’re claiming they have in stock. Give them a call and double-check.

It isn't red, it's blue—and it definitely isn't a gaming model.

Why swap out the motherboard? What’s wrong with the old one?
By the way, those B75 boards usually run about $350$133, but that gaming B75 you had was probably closer to $100 per unit 🤣

black 🤷

If your CPU has that "K" designation, you really ought to grab a Z77 motherboard—most of them come in black:

Is this one any good too? http://bit.ly/1va6Qp9

I’d probably just go with this one because it's right there in the link—plus, I'm based near Niagara Falls, so it might be easier if something breaks—and honestly, those $67 aren't really a big deal to me, especially since I wouldn't have to swap out my motherboard for several years anyway.

Well, you’ve got shipping costs (around $13) and returns are also

Paying over $30 more per item than $167 is just a total disaster in my book, but hey, what can you do?

Check out Amazon; I think they have a storefront in Seattle.

Maybe check out Amazon—they have a location in Seattle.

Well, I ended up picking this one since it seems like the best option I've found so far that actually works with my processor—I guess. Thanks, everyone!
