You could just try typing your laptop model directly into Google—usually, you'll find the specific model number printed right on the bottom of the casing or maybe even on a sticker near the keyboard. Once you've got that, just add the word "drivers" to your search. For example, something like HP 5000 Drivers. That should take you straight to the manufacturer's support page where you can grab that LAN DRIVER I mentioned earlier.

Look, ERROR code 10 is just one of those generic errors that pops up whenever hardware starts acting possessed. Does your laptop have a physical toggle or a function key to flip the wireless on and off? Also, where exactly were you grabbing drivers after you did the reinstall? And for the love of god, let me know which specific laptop model you're dealing with.

My Lenovo IdeaPad Y560. Everything just installed itself—it looks like Windows handled the drivers automatically
Edit, figured it out—the system was actually smart enough to grab the right drivers on its own

Noah Sanchez39 said:You didn't mention which laptop model you're working with. If it’s an HP, for instance, you might want to check here.

I managed to resolve it through the BIOS
but frankly, it's still a ridiculous way to handle things; something like this should be integrated directly into the Control Panel

Thanks,

Hey guys, quick question for you... I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1, and every single time I try to put the machine into hibernation, it just wakes itself right back up immediately. Anyone know why that happens?
I actually just finished building this rig a few days ago with all new parts, and ever since I put it together, it’s been doing this constant waking thing. Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this because honestly, I really don't want to have to manually shut everything down every single time I step away...
Thanks in advance.

Sleep and Hibernation: Frequently Asked Questions

Look, "Why won't my PC actually sleep or hibernate when I tell it to? Or better yet, why does it keep waking up for no reason?"

The answer is probably buried somewhere in the settings. 😉

man look "Why does my computer not go into sleep or hibernation as expected, or why does it wake unexpectedly?"

That’s probably where the whole mess is coming from... 😉

thanks anyway I finally figured out what was going on, turns out I had to dive into those adapter settings for the network card and uncheck some random box that was keeping everything awake 🙂 I've got another question though, because I can't find anything decent online about actual reasons why Windows 7 or Windows 8 would be better than the other, just a bunch of useless junk everywhere... and does the system score even matter at all? Like for gaming? I'm seeing stuff where Windows 7 hits like a 7.9 and then Windows 8 goes up to 9.9 :S haha

Something like this, right? 😉

I've got one more question—I honestly can't find it anywhere. It's like it just doesn't exist.Windows 7 or Windows 8?I need some actual reasons why one version is better than the other. Everything I've dug up online is just total nonsense. Also, does the system score even matter in general? What about when it comes to gaming? I’m looking at Windows 7 where the score hits around 7.9, but on Windows 8 it goes up to 9.9. :S haha

Not exactly on topic, but here’s my two cents: for what I need as an everyday home user, the latest version of Windows is definitely a step up from the previous ones. Is it perfect? No. Does it need to be? Not really. It’s stable, it doesn't nag you constantly with all those annoying notifications—though you can just toggle those off anyway—and I’ve finally gotten used to the UI. That said, I still find myself much more productive when I stick to desktop mode.

exactly like that! :-)

Even if this isn't strictly "on topic," I gotta say... for my own needs as an everyday home user, the latest version of Windows OS is definitely a step up from what came before. It’s not perfect—not that anyone expects it to be—but it’s solid, it doesn't nag you constantly with all those annoying notifications (which you can just kill off anyway), and I’ve finally gotten used to the UI... though honestly, I still feel way more productive staying in desktop mode...

The system score (link) is just showing what the hardware can handle, it’s got nothing to do with how the OS actually performs.

alright, alright, thanks for all the info. and I also heard that Windows 8 is actually a bit better than Windows 7 when it comes to gaming since it supports DirectX 11.1... I've got a Radeon XFX 7870 right now and I'm not entirely sure if it handles 11.1, but it definitely does 11!

DirectX 11 = Windows 7 & SP1

DirectX 11.1 = Windows 8
DirectX 11.2 = Windows 8.1

XFX AMD Radeon HD 7870

The AMD Radeon HD 7870 (desktop) supports DirectX 11.2

yeah, okay, fine... so if you're the expert, what's your actual advice here? which OS should I actually jump over to? maybe 8.1? honestly though, I feel like 8 is probably fine too, and since 8 and 8.1 basically feel like the exact same thing to me anyway... :S

They aren't the same. The latest version of the Windows OS is miles ahead of what came before.

Hey there,
So, about two years ago, I picked up a laptop that came pre-installed with original Windows 7. Then last year, it got swiped. Is it actually legal to reinstall those same Windows on a different laptop?

Nope. That Windows license is tied directly to that specific laptop, so you can't just move it over to a different machine.😢

"Starting with Windows Vista and including Windows 7, the EULA of OEM license allows installation on only one single computer; once it's set, it's permanently locked to the motherboard of that specific machine." (link)

Well, if it were me, I’d just reinstall it for my own personal use and get on with it.

Let's be honest here... how many people in this thread are actually running genuine Windows right now? And I don't mean the corporate licenses provided by an employer...

Let’s be real—how many of us posting here actually have a legitimate, original copy of Windows? And I don't mean those pre-installed versions provided by an employer...

Go ahead and install it. I'm just not sure if the CD key will work if it's tied specifically to the HW...

Hey there,

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding how to set up a C programming environment on Windows 7... up until now, I've mostly been doing all my coding inside a Linux virtual machine, which worked fine, but I'm looking to switch things up. I actually went ahead and installed Geany on my Windows machine, but I've hit a bit of a snag because it won't compile anything since I don't have GCC installed, so I'm curious about what kind of software I should be using instead... If it’s at all possible, I’d really prefer something a bit more "lightweight," because I'm not exactly looking to bloat my computer with several unnecessary gigabytes of software I might not even use...

I’m looking for a little help here—I’m not entirely sure if I’m posting this in the right thread, but I’m hoping you all can point me in the right direction...
Basically, I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I need to go or what settings I should check to fix a privacy thing on my laptop. When I go to log in to Facebook, it keeps suggesting all these different usernames from people who have used this computer before... I really don't want everyone's login info just sitting there for anyone to see.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

That actually depends on which web browser you're using, rather than the OS itself. You'll need to find the specific setting and select "clear" on something similar.
Either you click "don't remember" the first time you type your info... or you look through the options for something like "clear forms." It’s something along those lines.
It has nothing to do with your operating system.
