Does anyone happen to have a video tutorial on how to pull this off? Honestly, Microsoft Word is driving me absolutely up the wall—I just can't seem to get the hang of it no matter what I try.

Alright, my friend, I think you might find something useful here:

Good grief, if I don't know the answer to that, nobody does. I'm throwing in the towel—I think I'll just hire someone else to handle it for me.

Have you tried swapping out those periods for commas?

I have a quick question here—I’m honestly not even sure how I’d phrase this for a Google search. So, I’ve got this scanned image, right? It’s a full A4 sheet. But when I just go into Microsoft Word and use the "Insert Picture" tool, it doesn't look like it actually fills the entire page. I'm trying to figure out how to get the image to sit perfectly on an 8.5x11 sheet so it covers the whole thing from edge to edge.
Hopefully, you catch my drift :P
By the way, I'm using the 2007 version of Microsoft Office.

Inserting images in Word 2007 takes a little bit of basic know-how. First off, if you're scanning an image directly into Microsoft Word, you've got the option to pull in a scanned image via a scanner or some kind of camera
If your margins are set up right, you can get exactly what you're looking for—but if they aren't, and you want different margins, you'll need to tweak the settings.

And look, if you want the image to cover the entire sheet (like a full US Letter page), just set it as the background. Just watch your scan quality/resolution; higher is always better.
Hope this helps you out.

btw: check out the part of the tutorial where they show a scanned diploma set as a full-page background, ready to be filled out using Word.

Does anyone know how to set up Outlook 2007 so that when I go to print an email, it actually shows the attachment included in the printout? Thanks in advance!

By default, the attachment filename should show up when you print an email. If that's what you're looking for...

If that doesn't do the trick, check here.

I am losing my mind trying to build a Table of Contents in Microsoft Word right now. I honestly don't know where I'm messing up because I've done this probably ten times before and it was always fine.

So, here’s the deal: I manually tagged my headings and subheadings as Heading 1 and Heading 2, saved everything, and then went to generate the table. Instead of a clean list, it spits out this massive, multi-page mess filled with huge chunks of body text and tables that I definitely didn't mark as any kind of Heading.

I need some help 🙂, I have no clue what to do next... I've always made my contents this way 🤷...

So, I went ahead and manually tagged my headings and subheadings as Heading 1 and Heading 2, saved everything, and thought I was good to go. But then I tried to generate the Table of Contents, and it was a total mess! Instead of just showing my titles, it pulled in massive chunks of body text and entire tables that I definitely didn't mark as any kind of Heading. It's spread across several pages now—super frustrating!

I could really use some help here! 🙂I honestly have no idea what to do now. This is exactly how I've always approached my content creation, too. 🤷 .

I bet all those snippets of text definitely have their own unique style! Heading 1 I guess I should probably get started on this... Heading 2Just click that link and check it out once you land on the page. You can try switching the style to something else—maybe Paragraph or whatever works. It reminds me of that time a coworker brought over a document on a thumb drive to print; everything from the images to the tables just pulled right through. The whole thing was there. 🙂

Jack Hayes said:All those text segments probably have Heading 1 or Heading 2 styles applied. Click the link and check once you get to the document. Then try changing the style to something else—like Normal—to see if it sticks. It’s the same mess I dealt with when a coworker handed me a thumb drive to print; the formatting, images, tables... everything comes along for the ride. 🙂

Thanks for the reply, but I can't just drop the content as links right now. I need to do this "old school." Is there a way to strip all those headings away in one go so I can start over? Or some other way to actually see which text is stuck in which Heading?

No clue how this even happened 🤷.

Didn't specify which version of Word you're using?
casualbear17 said:How do I just strip all the formatting from the text in one go? I want to kill all those headings so I can just start over from scratch.

Just hit Ctrl+A to grab everything, then click that Normal style. Easy.
casualbear17 said:Or how else can I actually see which Heading I'm working on?

If you want to grab just one specific style, just hit that selection option right in the Styles pane. Like, if you’ve got a Heading 2 and you need to snag all the text tied to it, just click the selection button. If you're using Word 2007, check out the fifth image for the breakdown.Style selection.Or if you're messing around with Word 2003, just check out image eighteen on... Check this link out..

Go watch some tutorials. Seriously.

Hey everyone!

Got a bit of a tricky one here, but I’ll try to make it super simple... (we're talking Excel stuff)

I'm trying to figure out if there's an Excel formula that can handle this:

If a player is at ?% and they gain 5% for every full 3 hours, how much time do they need to hit 100%?

Basically—if I type any random number from 0-99 into cells A1 through A17, I want a formula in B1 through B17 to automatically calculate the time needed to get from that % up to 100%.

Example:

Player A1 is at 70%, and since they get 5% every 3 hours, they'd need 18 hours to reach 100%—that's six 5% jumps to get there...

So, can anyone help me set up a formula for this? Or if Excel won't cut it, should I just whip up a quick little C++ program to do the heavy lifting?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I'm wondering if it's possible to set up an Excel formula to calculate this:

If a player has ?% and earns 5% for every full 3 hours, how much time do they need to get from ?% up to 100%?

Basically, I want to be able to type any random number from 0-99 into cells A1 through A17, and have a formula in cells B1 through B17 automatically calculate the time needed to reach 100% starting from that initial percentage.

For example:

Player A1 starts at 70%. If they earn 5% every 3 hours, that means they need 18 hours total to hit 100%, since they need six more 5% increments to reach the goal...

Could anyone help me write a formula for this? Or, if it’s not doable in Excel, should I just whip up a tiny little program in C++ to handle it?

Thanks in advance for the help!

=((100-A1)/5)*3
100-A1 tells you how much is left to reach 100%. Dividing that by 5 ( /5 ) gives you the number of cycles, and multiplying that by 3 ( *3 ) gives you the total hours needed to hit 100%.
Computer Geek should probably know that one already. ☕

And should I be rounding those figures, or is the result going to come out as, say, an hour and a half?
For instance, if we're looking at 98%—is the final answer supposed to be 3h, or maybe 1:45h (or something along those lines, I'm just typing this out from memory)?

For instance, if it's at 98%—would the answer be 3 hours, or maybe 1:45 (just throwing numbers out there here)

In this specific scenario, we’re missing the time dimension. We really need a start time for every piece of data entered—like a timestamp column. Then, the program could look at the system clock to calculate how much time needs to pass before that data point hits that "100%" mark.
Alternatively, we could set fixed intervals for when changes happen—say, a 5% increase every 3 hours, 6 hours, 9 hours, and so on. Even then, using the system time, you could calculate it; in that case, both 95% and 98% would see that same 5% bump at once, meaning they’d have the same window for change if they were logged at the same time—a maximum of 3 hours.

I accidentally hit some random key combination or something, and now every single Microsoft Word document looks like a total mess. There are weird symbols popping up everywhere—dots and dashes instead of regular spaces—plus this annoying pi symbol appearing at the end of every line and whatnot.

How do I get rid of this garbage?😕

You probably just tapped the "P-shaped" button, which is basically the show / Hide toggle.
So now you're stuck looking at this:

Just click it again to get rid of those "weird symbols." Honestly, they aren't even weird, they actually serve a purpose.😉
You'll find the button right next to the percentage indicator (check out the Word window in the link). You can't really miss it since it looks exactly like the paragraph mark.
