Look, here’s a little trick I’ve used forever: try pasting your image directly into a Text Box. Basically, you just draw the box exactly where you want that photo to live, then paste the picture right inside it. Once that's done, right-click the image and hit Format Text Box. Go into the Layout settings, pick Square, then head over to Advanced and find Picture Position. You’ll want to check the box for "Move object with text" and also make sure you check "Lock anchor." Hit OK, OK, and you're set. Oh, and one more thing—make sure you change the Text Box fill color to white so the border doesn't show up and ruin everything. This works in the 2007 version, and honestly, it’s probably pretty much the same if you're using Word 2010.

EDIT: I should probably mention—this same document looks perfectly normal on other computers; all the formulas display without any issues there.

Anyone happen to know the solution? 😕

So here's the deal...

I've got this formula sitting in column J:
=IF(G2=N8;G2=O8;G2=P8;G2=Q8;"S kaut")))))
and honestly, it works just fine.

G2 is basically my data column—numbers ranging from like 90 to 150.

N8 = 105
O8 = 120
P8 = 135
Q8 = 150

Now, I'm using column H for this:
if the number is between 90 and 105, the formula should be -> =SUM(105-G2)—basically "Average".
if it's between 105 and 120, the formula is -> =SUM(120-G2)—so "Good".
if it's between 120 and 135, the formula is -> =SUM(135-G2)—that's "Very Good".
if it's between 135 and 150, the formula is -> =SUM(150-G2)—meaning "Excellent".

So, big question here—hope you guys follow me!

Is there a way to make it so if the value in G2 jumps from 120 to 120.2, it automatically realizes it's not in the 120-G2 range anymore and switches over to 135-G2?
Because right now, column J updates perfectly when it hits 120—flipping from "Average" to "Very Good"—but column H just gives me -0.2... total headache!

Gary Turner96 said:Now I’ve got this massive question on my mind, and I really hope you guys can follow what I'm getting at here...

Look, maybe I’m misinterpreting the whole setup, but the transition from one range to the next is clearly defined by the formula sitting in cell "J". Honestly, I haven't the slightest clue what the result in cell "H" is actually supposed to be doing there. But, if it helps you out at all, you might want to just apply the same conditional logic to cell "H" that you used for "J".

Basically, to make this super simple—I want to take the same logic from cell J and apply it to cell H, but with a little twist...

=IF(G2=N8;G2=O8;G2=P8;G2=Q8;"Elite")))))
(that’s the formula sitting in cell J)

The formula for cell H needs to swap out the "etc." part for this instead:

IF H2 IF H2 IF H2 IF H2
Is it actually possible to pull that off?

So, I'm running into this weird glitch where my quick print button in Excel just refuses to cooperate. It’s super annoying because if I head into File and hit Print manually, it works perfectly fine, and my printer is acting totally normal in every other app on my machine—I even made sure I've got the latest software version and drivers installed. I'm running Windows 7, and I've actually cycled through several versions of Office from 2002 all the way up to 2007, but the result is always the same 🙂.
Anyone out there have a clue what might be causing this?
Thanks!

Would this work to get the job done:

=IF(105-G2>0;"Average";IF(120-G2>0;"Good";IF(135-G2>0;"Very Good";IF(150-G2>0;"Excellent";"With Caution"))))

Nesting IF functions like this is just—well, it's an absolute nightmare, and frankly, it's a completely unnecessary one.

You really ought to look into the VLOOKUP function; it's honestly worth its weight in gold for scenarios exactly like yours.

I was hoping someone might be able to lend me a hand with a bit of a headache I'm having with my Excel spreadsheets.

I need to merge data from several different files together.
To put it simply, I have one Excel file containing two columns with specific fields:
A B
n1 4
n2 5
n3 11
n9 3

Then, in a second file, I have this:
A B
n1 3
n2 1
n3 0
n4 2

What I am actually aiming for is a single master table:
A B C
n1 4 3
n2 5 1
n3 11 0
n4 . 2
n9 3

Now, you might ask why on earth I can't just resort to a simple copy-paste job, but there is a catch.

The issue is that Column A in my first file doesn't match all the "n-values" found in the second file. My goal is to create a comprehensive third table that pulls everything together.
Basically, looking at Column A:
The first table has n1, n2, n3, n9, n46
The second table has n1, n2, n3, n4, n5, n8
And the third table needs to include n1, n2, n3, n4, n5, n8, n9, n46
The values from Column B in both initial tables should correspond to their respective "n-values" in the third table (specifically filling Columns B and C).

I've attempted to explain this as clearly as possible, though I'm fully aware how messy this sounds. I truly hope I've made my requirements understandable.

First, grab the data from your first file and drop it into the first Excel sheet, then do the same for the second file into the second sheet. Once that's set, you'll want to use a VLOOKUP function in column C of that first sheet.
It would look something like this... =VLOOKUP(A2;$Sheet2.$A$2:$B$xx;2;FALSE()) where xx represents your total number of rows. I usually just do a quick Google search to double-check how the syntax works before I finalize everything, so definitely check online to make sure you've got it dialed in perfectly.

I’m trying to join two tables using a query in Access, but things aren't adding up. After I build the query and run it, I’m only seeing about two-thirds of the results. Access is pulling most of the data, but that final third—which, based on my logic, shouldn't even be filtered out—just vanishes into thin air. 🙂 🤷 Does anyone have any idea where I'm going wrong? Or could you at least point me in the right direction so I can stop spinning my wheels? I am completely stumped here. Thanks in advance!

If you actually take a second to look at what you wrote, you've basically solved your own mystery. 😂 Since I'm juggling three different programs that pull from and save to an Access database, it’s pretty obvious that some kind of error occurred during the process, causing the data type for that missing third of the data to change. Now, Access can't pull it because the query is set up to perform specific calculations on it. So, now I just have to figure out how to fix the underlying mess. Any advice would be appreciated. 😁 ☕

Hey there! I need some help with Word 2007.

It’s about footnotes.
Everything is working perfectly except for one specific part. On this page, I've got a song title, and then the lyrics take up the whole page over two lines.
Here's the deal: if I put the footnote on the song title, the entire body of the song jumps to a new page, leaving me with nothing but the title and the footnote at the bottom of the first page.
But if I try putting the footnote at the start of the lyrics instead—everything stays where it should be, but the footnote itself breaks! It creates that little separator line at the bottom, but it only goes halfway across the page, and then the actual footnote text splits into two lines.

How do I make this footnote look just like all the others in my document? I need it to sit at the bottom of the page and stretch across the full width.

Are you trying to say the poem is set in two columns? If so, try reverting the main text back to a single column first. Then, leave one or two empty lines at the bottom, highlight just the lyric text, and apply the two-column layout to that section specifically. Those extra lines at the end should stay in a single column, which would likely help the footnote "settle" into the right spot. I haven't actually tested this myself, so I can't promise it'll work, but it's what I'd try if I were in your shoes.

Maybe give the margins a little shakeup, or perhaps mess around with the font settings itself.

Hey there!
So, sorry in advance because I’m definitely no Excel wizard, so please don't roast me if I describe this totally wrong... basically, I've got this spreadsheet where Column A is the date, Column B is the full name, and Column C is the location... what I'm really dying to do is make it so that in Column B—where all those names are—they aren't just sitting there staring at me, but instead, when I click the filter, I can just pick a specific name from a list... and I want to do the exact same thing for the locations!
I honestly have no clue how to put this in "tech speak," so I'm really hoping you guys get what I'm aiming for...

P.S. Just to be super clear, I'm not talking about that basic filtering where you just click a header and pick a value... like, I already know how to hit the filter on cells B1 through B10 and just check a box... that's not what I mean!

So, the issue is pretty straightforward.
I need a formula to handle this specific task:

When I type text into a cell—let's say H3—I want that exact same text to automatically show up in other cells, like D3, D13, D23, and so on. Similarly, if the original cell is empty, those other cells should stay empty too, waiting until I actually enter something. Makes sense? The cell is formatted as text.

In cell D3, you'll want to drop this formula in: =IF($H$3<>"";$H$3;"") then just drag it down to D13 and beyond.
Basically, what she's getting at is that if you type something into cell H3, it’s going to show up in every single cell where you’ve pasted that formula. But, if H3 is sitting there empty? Well, then all those other cells stay blank too. Just a little bit of logic to keep things clean.
