I’ve run into a bit of a technical puzzle lately. About three days ago, a thin black horizontal line—maybe a millimeter or two thick—started appearing across my screen. It’s acting quite strangely; if I shut down my computer and leave it off for an hour or so, the line vanishes, but once I power everything back up and let it run for a while, it creeps back onto the display. I’m honestly not sure if the issue lies within my graphics card, which is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, or if it’s something internal to the monitor itself. If anyone here has dealt with a similar glitch and managed to find a fix, I would truly appreciate it if you could walk me through how you handled it.

It’s almost certainly a monitor issue—you should probably grab a spare and test it out just to be absolutely sure. If that doesn't fix things, you'll likely need to drop it off at a local repair shop to figure out what's actually going on inside.

That is my own assumption as well.
