Hey there, I'm Alex Thomas27. I weigh about 165 lbs and my calves measure 16 inches.
My hips are 46, my waist is 29, and my bust is 37.

So, I went out shopping for jeans today, and it was a total disaster. I couldn't get a single pair on because of my calves. And I'm telling you, they are genuinely wide.

Does anyone have any advice on how to slim down my calves through exercise? I walk constantly. Is it possible my legs are just swollen? Should I maybe cut back on the walking?

If I don't get some solid advice on how to shrink these calves, I might actually cry.

Just lose some weight and hit the gym. How tall are you?

I’m not trolling. I actually need help here.

Like I said, I walk constantly. I'm about 5'6". I think my lower legs are swelling because I'm on my feet all day.

Total troll. Claims calves swell up just from walking? Lol.

I'm also 5'6", with measurements of 36" hips, 25" waist, 35" bust, 13" calves, and 20" thighs. If walking causes swelling, imagine what happens to me since I do single-leg squats, weighted squats with 55 lbs, and a whole bunch of other stuff...

The fix is pretty straightforward—lose weight. Cut your daily calories, bump up the protein, and start training. Mix in some cardio you actually enjoy, but make sure to hit strength training too so you don't lose what little muscle you have.

I’m also 5'6", with 36" hips, a 25" waist, 35" bust, 13" calves, and 20" thighs. If just walking makes your calves swell up, what am I supposed to do? I spend my time doing single-leg squats, weighted squats with 55 lbs, and a whole laundry list of other exercises.

The fix is pretty straightforward—lose weight. Cut your daily calories, bump up the protein, and start working out. Mix in some cardio you actually enjoy, but definitely include strength training so you don't lose whatever muscle mass you currently have.

I'm not trolling. I genuinely mean it.

But what if all that protein and training just builds more muscle in my calves and makes them wider? That's the last thing I want. I'm trying to slim them down, not bulk them up!

Just buy different pants.

I don't want "different" pants. I want pants made for normal girls—pants I could actually fit into if my lower legs weren't so thick.
I’m not looking for flares. I want pants that make my calves look slim (like, actually slim, not just hiding them under fabric, which feels pathetic), and pants that give my thighs and glutes a heart-shaped silhouette (you know, an inverted triangle).

I want the kind of legs girls my age (17) have. Girls my age don't have calves that measure 16 inches around. They have slender, tapered legs, and that's what I'm after.

Oh, honey. With your measurements, your calves aren't your only issue. You need to lose weight; you're carrying quite a bit of extra bulk.

Working out won't make your calves bigger because you'll be losing fat. You should focus on building muscle mass to maintain your weight and look toned, but there's no way you'll get bulky without intense training and a significant calorie surplus—and since you need to lose weight, you'll be in a deficit. Muscle hypertrophy doesn't happen without a surplus. So, you don't need to worry about that.

If you still think exercise will increase your calf size, explain to me how yours are 16 inches just from walking, while I work out intensely six days a week and mine are only 13 inches? And I'm much older than you... almost 39. You have excess weight everywhere, so you need to slim down, and then you'll slim down everywhere. It's possible your calves are genetically thicker, but based on your other stats, it's clear you're just overweight.

I'm probably just feeding the trolls here, but I'll answer anyway... who knows, maybe this is actually a serious question...

I really don't want flares. I want pants that make my lower legs look skinny—like, actually skinny, not just hiding how wide they are, because that just looks pathetic. And I want them to give my thighs and butt that heart-shaped look (you know, that inverted triangle shape).

I just want the kind of legs girls my age have (I'm 17). Girls my age don't have calves that measure 16 inches around. They have slim, tapered legs, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for.

Then just wear skirts.

Thanks, Susan Jackson12.
briskjackal5, this isn't about being trendy. It’s just that these pants are ridiculously wide, and I'm actually trying to show off my skinny calves here.

Susan Jackson12 said:You’ve got some extra weight to lose across the board—honestly, if you focus on slimming down overall, everything else will follow suit. It’s possible your genetics lean toward thicker leaves, sure, but looking at your other measurements, it’s pretty clear there's just some excess there.

^ Exactly this. There isn't much more to be said.

Haha, yeah, "slimmer legs."
I mean, it's probably just because you're still young.
Honestly, it seems like women—especially when they're trying way too hard to show off the one part of themselves they actually feel insecure about—just end up making things look totally awkward.

Eventually, you'll realize it makes way more sense to do the exact opposite. Like, if you love your eyes, highlight them! If you're feeling your lips, go for it. If you're happy with your chest, wear a nice neckline (but, you know, nothing crazy so it doesn't look tacky), or if you've got a great butt, show it off. Or if you love your hair, play around with different styles, right? It's just common sense.

I honestly thought every woman was just born knowing this stuff.
It feels like nobody teaches the younger generation anything these days...

This is such high-level trolling I’m honestly surprised I’m even wasting my breath replying. 😁

Just put both legs in a cast.🤷😁

🤣 Exactly—give it three or four weeks and there won't be anything left of those leaves but a memory (speaking from experience here, haha)

I honestly don’t get why you’re stressing over how the fabric bunches up when you pull your pants on, but you aren't worried about the hips or the rear? For me, a 46-inch hip measurement feels absolutely massive.

Look, let’s be real—her calves actually match those hips perfectly.
I have no clue what she thinks the "ideal" look is supposed to be. Like, a pear shape perched on two toothpicks? Since when was that even a thing?
