The logic being used by commentators regarding the first American swimmer in the 50m breaststroke.

The start and the touch alone account for about 0.2-0.3 seconds. He messed up both. That’s all there is to it.

Heh, yeah, obviously there aren't any more records being set, because you can't exactly break anything when nobody's wearing those high-tech space suits anymore, right? 😁

It’s never an easy road when you're facing Mexicans, but man, that third quarter was something else entirely. I honestly can't recall ever seeing such total dominance over them. Now, I'm really pulling for the Italians in the semifinals; after all, they've always been our most reliable opponents.

Tičić is garbage 🤮

The Mexicans call a timeout with 15 seconds left just to run their play: "Break the broken arch of Bušlje." 🤮🤮

🙏 I honestly couldn't wrap my head around why they’d burn a timeout with 14 seconds on the clock just to end up losing by a mile. Honestly, Porobić, what were you thinking?

I guess Misilm thinks Porobić should've just acted like a pro and congratulated Rudić on the win and how great his water polo squad played—those guys basically gave the former champs a masterclass.

Plus, I think he really ought to penalize Tičić for that unsportsmanlike move. It felt more like something a drunk guy at a dive bar in some small town would do rather than an athlete representing the US.

Honestly, props to Rudić for reacting like that. I mean, anyone else sitting on that bench probably would've reacted the exact same way.

I don't get why you'd even call a timeout with 15 seconds left when you're already totally outclassed and losing. 🤷

Maybe Porobić should focus on cleaning up his own mess instead of bringing up the greatest coach ever and playing dirty—just like his players did—while trying to lean on a 30-year friendship.

Here's one for Porobić: 👎

Look, there’s no way Porobić told Tičić to go after Bušlje, but I honestly can’t wrap my head around why a coach with that much experience would call a timeout with only 14 seconds left on the clock, especially when his players are already a total wreck from losing and missing out on yet another podium finish.

Anyway, the Italians are absolutely steamrolling the Spaniards after the third quarter—it’s sitting at 8-5.

Italy-Spain 10-6. Final score. Everything comes down to Thursday at 3 PM when we face Italy! What can I even say about those Italians? Their biggest assets are definitely that sharpshooting perimeter play and their veteran keeper, Tempesti.

Group winners heading into the semifinals. Everything is playing out exactly how people expected. Our guys were incredible today, though that elbow should definitely earn someone a massive fine.

Nice. 👍 Historically, we just seem to play way better against Italy than we do against Spain. Honestly, if we play even half as well as we did today, there's no way the Italians can touch us. I guess the only way this game goes sideways is if the officiating gets weird, Tempesti starts pulling off miracles in the net, and our guys have an absolute disaster of a day—but that would also require the Italians to suddenly play out of their minds on offense, which seems unlikely.

I'm not sleeping on the Italians or saying they aren't good, but if we actually show up and play right, I think we’re at least three goals better than them. Then we've got the final, which I'm guessing will be against Mexico.

Alex Barrett3 said:Great. 👍 Historically, we’ve always had the edge over the Italians compared to the Spaniards. If we actually play with half a brain like we did today, there isn't a prayer the Italians can even stay within striking distance. The only way this game ends up in some "shady territory" is if the officiating gets weirdly biased, Tempesti starts pulling miracles out of thin air, and our guys have a complete meltdown on the pitch—but that would require the Italians to actually show some offensive spark, which is a big if.

Look, I'm not disrespecting the Italians or their talent, but if we approach the game correctly, we're easily three goals better than them. And then we've got the final, which I assume will be USA-Mexico.

I'm with you.👍 Anything other than a USA-MEXICO final would be a massive shocker to me. You should never count the Canadians out, but my gut tells me the Americans are going to steamroll them.

The Mexicans call a 15-second timeout right before the end just to trigger their go-to play: "breaking the Bušlje arc." 🤮🤮

Well, I am personally convinced there was no prearranged plan here. It seems more likely that he just acted entirely on his own impulse—damn it, it looked to me as if he was holding Buslje’s hand, and he simply couldn't break free, so then the strike happened. It was probably just pure frustration resulting from a sense of helplessness.
I truly hope that jerk receives some kind of penalty.

As for the match itself, things went quite well for our side, though I suppose we were somewhat fortunate with all those long-range shots—bloopers, glancing blows, all sorts of lucky bounces that somehow ended up in the net for us.
However, I really have to single out Muslim; it is quite incredible what an elite player he has become. He’s playing perimeter, he’s playing defense, and he even moves in to the two-meter mark. That shot from the outside hitting the post was nothing short of perverse.

Bravo to our guys!
