Porobic is talking nonsense.
If the roles were reversed, he’d be asking the exact same question as Rudic.
In any case, he really should have asked himself why his rotation was so poor that more than half the players couldn't even swim from exhaustion after the second quarter.
As for Titch's move—no comment.

Oh, and I should probably mention this too, if anyone even cares:
Niksa Roki is 30, and Sanja is 22.

If things had gone the other way, he would’ve been asking the exact same question as Rudic.
Honestly, he should be looking in the mirror and asking himself why he played the rotation the way he did—leaving two or four players completely gassed so they couldn't even swim after the second quarter.
As for that move by Titch—no comment. Just no.

Titch didn't do it on purpose; he was just caught up in a struggle with Andrew, they were wrestling for position, Buslje grabbed him, and he was just trying to push off... it just happened.
But honestly, Porobicev's decision was an even bigger blunder.

The bigger mess is that Porobicev move.

I don't know, I don't really see it that way regarding the hit.

There are tons of hits in water polo. You've got stuff happening underwater and above the surface. And there's clear rules on how those get called. But with this specific hit, right when the game was basically decided, you can totally see the guy intentionally swing his elbow. It was aimed right at Buslje's hold, which is actually just standard play in water polo.

Alex Barrett3 said:I can't say I really agree with your take on the foul.

There are plenty of fouls in water polo. Some happen underwater, some above. And there's a very clear set of rules for how they get called. But regarding this specific hit—right at the moment the game was essentially decided—you can see clearly that the guy intentionally swings his elbow. He targets Buslje's hold, which is perfectly standard play in a water polo match.

I know better than anyone just how many fouls go down in water polo. This whole situation was unbelievably stupid. At first, I honestly thought Titch played like a complete jerk, especially after that incredibly rude technical offense from Porobic. But looking back at the replay, it looks a little different from what the official HTV water polo institution (™) saw.

We're talking dead time here; there are 14 seconds left on the clock, and Buslje gets caught in a bind at the 2-meter mark while everyone else hasn't even started moving forward yet, you know? They haven't even transitioned. Buslje is holding on, and obviously, he isn't going to just stare at the guy who's grabbing his hand... and unfortunately, it ended up hitting him in the head.

To be honest, even the Mexicans wouldn't have made anything of it; they probably would've just floated near the ball until the buzzer. Buslje could have easily just positioned himself between the players and the ball, or maybe slipped in behind him.
Anyway, just wait for the end, give them a hand, and tell the boys "good luck fighting for 5th place..."

Nathan Kern9 said:I am quite intimately acquainted with the sheer volume of shots taken in water polo, and frankly, this entire situation has been an unprecedented display of stupidity. At first glance, I was under the impression that Titch played a truly disgraceful hand, especially following that incredibly insolent technical timeout called by Porobic. However, having reviewed the footage myself, my perspective seems to diverge somewhat from what the official HTV water polo institution apparently concluded.

It’s dead time now, really—there are about 14 seconds left on the clock, and I suppose Buslje is already starting to lose his grip just two meters out because they haven't even begun to set their positions properly; they’ve all just sort of drifted forward in the water. Now, Buslje is actually holding his ground here, but this other guy, well, he obviously isn't going to bother watching him while he’s busy holding his hand up, and unfortunately, that's how it ends up hitting him right in the head.

I suspect the Mexicans wouldn't have even managed to make an impact out there; they likely would have just spent the entire match chasing the ball aimlessly until the final whistle blew. Honestly, I think Buslje could have simply positioned himself right between the players and the ball and effectively neutralized the whole thing. ...or perhaps trailing just behind him.
I suppose I should probably just step aside now and give credit where it's due, offering my hand and my best wishes to the guys as they head into the fray to fight for fifth place... good luck to them, I guess.

He really should have stood his ground behind him, and if those guys had just been pushing the ball toward the two-point line, he probably would have let him take the shot. And then he might have actually said, "Bravo, maestro," acknowledging how much he’d truly outmaneuvered the defense.

It’s dead time, right? You have 14 seconds left to play, and Buslje gets caught out of position at the 2m mark while they haven't even started setting up yet—like, everyone is still swimming forward. Buslje is holding him, and obviously, he isn't going to watch someone holding his hand, and unfortunately, it ended up hitting him in the head.

Honestly, the Mexicans wouldn't have done anything anyway; they probably would've just floated on the ball until the clock ran out. Buslje could have just nicely positioned himself between the players and the ball or behind him.
And then just wait for the end, give a hand and say "good luck fighting for 5th place"...

Man, based on what you're saying, it sounds like you think Buslje is the one to blame because this guy clocked him in the head. 🤷

The Mexicans could have just sat on the ball for those last 14 seconds without Porobic even calling a timeout. What else was Buslje or anyone else on our national team supposed to do? Step away from the players and let them score or defend??!

Just calling that idiotic timeout is what set everything else in motion. Titch really didn't need to go elbowing Buslje above the water right when everything was already over. It was unsportsmanlike and totally rude, and I really hope he gets punished, both by his own federation and by FIN.

The results from Day 12 (Wednesday):

SWIMMING:
The results for the men's 200 m butterfly are in: the USA takes the top spot, followed by Japan, then China, another Chinese swimmer, South Africa, and finally Poland.
The standings for the women's 200m freestyle are looking like a bit of a whirlwind. Right now, we've got Italy leading the pack, followed by Australia, then France, Sweden, another Aussie, and finally the USA rounding out the top six.
The results for the men's 800m freestyle are in: China takes the gold, followed by Canada in second, then Canada, Tunisia, the Faroe Islands, and finally the USA rounding out the top six.
The results for the men's 50m breaststroke are in, and it’s looking like a bit of a global shuffle. Brazil takes the top spot, followed by Italy, South Africa, Germany, and Norway, leaving the USA sitting in sixth.

The medal standings (places 1–6) as of the 17th out of 40:
01. / 4 - 3 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 3 USA
02. / 3 - 1 - 4 - 2 - 1 - 1 China

A rough start for them—it’s looking like a real slog through the mud out there. They’re sitting at 0 wins and only managed to scrape together one draw. It’s basically just a series of stalemates and losses right now.
12. / 0 - 1 - 0 - 1 - 1 - 1 Russia

The score stands at 17 to 0, with a messy breakdown of 0 - 0 - 1 - 0 - 0 - 2 against Canada.
The scoreboard is looking pretty bleak for Sweden right now—basically just a string of zeros and nothing to show for it.
The scoreboard at the 19th minute is sitting at a dead zero across the board—just a scoreless grind against Chile.

The bigger disaster here is Porobic's timeout.

That’s a far cry from saying Bušlje wasn't holding him. You have to be completely out of your mind to go flailing around like that when the game is already decided.
It's lucky he only hit the arc. He could have easily broken his nose and ended Bušlje's career right then and there.
Essentially, poor Titch is the victim here. I've been reading those Mexico forums, and this is exactly the kind of ammunition they need to find someone else to trash talk. Now, Porobic is seen as a zero as a coach, and Titch is branded a fool.

As for Porobic's timeout? What can I even say?
He clearly wasn't thinking straight. You could see from the broadcast that they were physically unprepared. Instead of slowing down the tempo in the fourth quarter and playing it smart—maybe even offering a hand in sportsmanship since they could have easily lost 10-4 or 11-5—he goes for that ridiculous timeout.
Unfortunately for Mexico, without Zlokovic and Gojkovic, they have no chance. If you shut down Ivovic and Janovic, it's game over.
