So, my brother has two laptops he’s looking to part with, and he’s letting me pick whichever one I want!
Since I spend a fair amount of time messing around with video editing (using AVS Video Editor) and tweaking photos (mostly in Adobe Photoshop), I’m feeling a bit torn on which one would actually hold up better for those kinds of tasks, so I’d love to get some input from you guys.
Here’s the breakdown of what we're working with:

Dell Inspiron 15
A dual-core processor running at "1.70 GHz"
4 GB of memory
Nvidia GeForce 840M graphics
You can find all the other technical details over at http://www.acer.com/ac/hr/HR/content/model/NX.GACEX.010

Dell Inspiron 17
Processor: 2.3 GHz Mobile DualCore Intel Pentium T4500
Hard drive: 320 GB - General Electric
RAM: 4 GB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM)
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce G210M
The rest of the specs are listed here: https://www.amazon.de/Acer-Aspire-77.../dp/B002V10W1S

The first one definitely packs a much better graphics card than the second, but you're getting a significantly stronger processor with the second option instead. 😁 From what I can tell, they both come with 4GB of RAM, and if you're mostly using the laptop for dedicated processing work—where you really need that CPU horsepower—I’d personally lean toward the second laptop, even if its graphics performance isn't quite as high as the first...

Eee, man, that’s the million-dollar question that keeps me up at night sometimes! I honestly can't quite wrap my head around which one actually pulls more weight when you're deep in the weeds with video editing—is it better to go all-in on a beefier graphics card, or should I be putting my money toward a more powerful processor?

Both points are valid... Honestly, no matter which of those laptops you go with, they aren't exactly powerhouses—so regardless of your choice, you're probably going to be sitting around waiting quite a while for video processing to finish up.

I’m really just trying to figure out which one of these would actually crunch through a video render faster.
From what I can gather, it honestly doesn't make much of a difference which way I go

Exactly—honestly, it doesn't matter much which one you pick because, by today's standards, these laptops are pretty weak—especially if you're trying to do any video editing... But, hey, since you actually have a choice, I'd say just go with the first one.
