Ugh, my brain is totally fried... I can just about recall Nazr Mohammed and that Canadian guy with the red beard—was it Todd MacCulloch? Pretty sure they were teammates back then. I remember hearing that guy landed a massive contract later on because he was solid at backing up Shaq.🤣

Most of them were just a garbage squad anyway...😁...and I definitely remember Vince going absolutely nuclear one night, dropping insane threes... I think it was against the Knicks, maybe? He went on this crazy run right after...

Maybe Adam Moore knows more, but we're getting way too far off track here...

Basically a garbage squad😁... and I know Vince was absolutely tearing it up one night that season—started an insane run, I think it was against the Knicks.

Adam Moore might know, but we’re getting way off track here.

🤣 is, MacCulloch is 🤣

Yeah, yeah, I think it was that Mutombo-Ratliff trade between Philly and Atlanta.

Man, I remember that game like it was yesterday.🤣 Even the Knicks, if I recall correctly.😁

frozentiger6 said:Hollywood makes way more movies about Grandma Ruth than they ever will about damn baseball. You see those endless films about kids growing up in Brooklyn—Italian families, Polish neighborhoods, all that stuff—but they couldn't care less about actual sports. They just don't get it.

If they actually banned hot dogs and all that other junk food at the games, half the crowd would be stuck in jail by halftime and the rest would just head home because they’d be bored out of their minds.

Give me a break. Some American is going to act like Amer Balic is some kind of legendary icon. Honestly, you guys are talking absolute nonsense.

People act like calling Amer Balic a legend is an exaggeration, but that’s only because they clearly have no idea who he actually is.🤣

There are entire studies, specific diets, training methods, and tech suits that have been perfected over time.
Especially those 100m sprinters.
The last swimmer I truly respected as a sprinter was Alexander Popov; guys like Allan Bernard just don't come close.

I respect Phelps, but I guess his genetics were just heavily on his side (not that I'm questioning any of his medals).

It’s not just about the records, though obviously, they tend to fall because of improved techniques, gear, and training. Maybe it's worth noting that Phelps managed to grab 8 gold medals in what, maybe ten days of competition? Amidst much tougher competition than before. So, he basically won every single race he entered. Since most swimmers don't even specialize in one discipline, let alone win them all, I think his performance might be the greatest individual feat at the Olympics, right up there with how Bolt swept all his events and set records at the same Olympics. They probably sit at the top together.

Adam Moore said:I'm not quite sure why the amount of aerobic effort an athlete puts in is used as the main way to value a certain sport.

Even though there isn't much difference in terms of competition—since being the best is tough in any game—I guess I still feel okay making a distinction between sports based purely on physical factors. Something like downhill skiing or Formula 1, where a race could potentially end in a fatal accident due to the environment rather than a health issue, seems more stressful and physically demanding than, say, target shooting or curling. I think all sports and games are great, but maybe some just require higher levels of effort and risk. You've tried things yourself, so you probably know where you might hit a physical wall first, like in baseball or football. There are definitely sports where physicality is the main driver, and others where skill, coordination, and intelligence take center stage. In sprinting, it’s mostly the former, while in baseball, it's more the latter. It’s all pretty subjective, but I suppose I'm just more impressed by sports with higher stakes. To me, they seem to push the limits of human endurance more than team sports do. You mentioned soccer; it’s a pretty demanding physical game, but at its core, it's still just a game. Personally, none of the athletes I admire most play soccer.🙂

Most Americans don't even know what handball is... 😂

High-speed downhill skiing or Formula 1, where a single race could end in a tragedy caused by the environment rather than just health issues, are definitely more intense and taxing on the body than something like target shooting or curling. I love all sports, honestly, but some just demand much higher risks and effort. You've felt it yourself, so you know where the physical wall hits first, like in baseball or football. Some sports lean heavily on raw athleticism, while others prioritize skill, coordination, and IQ. In sprinting, it's the first one; in baseball, it's more the second. It’s all subjective, but I'm personally more blown away by the high-risk stuff. There's just more of that "pushing human limits" vibe compared to team sports. You mentioned soccer; it’s physically demanding, sure, but at its core, it's still just a game. None of my top-tier athletes are soccer players. 🙂

Which is totally fine, but it doesn't really hold water in an objective debate meant to measure an athlete's actual achievements.
When we dive into subjective territory, that's a whole different ballgame, and everything you said works there simply because it's based on personal taste and perception. 🙂

placidotter132 As I was saying:
Most Americans don't have the slightest clue what handball even is. 😂

It’s the same reason why people in Denmark don't know the first thing about baseball—they just aren't interested. 😉

In the States, we tend to blow way too much steam over every random handball player or water polo kid who ever picked up a ball.

Honestly, people like Sachin Tendulkar and Alex Rodriguez are fifty times more iconic and globally recognized than some washed-up guy like Amer Balic, and once you finally wrap your head around that reality, life just gets a whole lot easier. ☕

Does it smell? Because it smells terrible.☕

In the US, the only people truly overrated are politicians—and yes, I’m including Goluža in that group. 👎

Americans just blame everyone else because they don't care about European sports.🙂
I mean, how does most of you think B. Ruth is overrated when you're only hearing his name for the first time right now?🤷

If you ask me, David Beckham was never actually overrated. In fact, people were always quick to write him off as just some vain model who lost his edge once he left Chicago, which—to be fair—wasn't entirely wrong. Sure, the marketing machine around him was massive, but I can't say I ever heard anyone arguing that he was an elite-level player after his time with the team in Chicago.
