Best AAA rechargeable batteries?

I mean, we’re looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of 900mAh or perhaps even a bit more than that, don't you think? It really comes down to whether one values sheer capacity over everything else, though why anyone would settle for less when the options are right there is a question I find myself pondering quite frequently.
Is there actually any semblance of a price-to-quality ratio left in this economy, or have we all just collectively decided to stop looking at the receipt? Honestly, I find myself wandering through these aisles, staring at the labels, wondering if I’m paying for the actual product or just the fancy font on the packaging. Does anyone else feel like that sweet spot—you know, that magical intersection where value meets excellence—has become a total myth? Or am I just being overly cynical today?

I’m not entirely sure if this will actually help you out, but I’ve personally cycled through VARTA, SANYO, and North Star batteries, and honestly, I can't really tell them apart!
Though, I have to admit... my current North Star ones aren't holding up nearly as long as they used to... but then again, that might just be because they're about 15 years old now and have been charged more times than I can count! 🤔

so, here's the deal, I'm wondering if it's a total dealbreaker if I don't stick with Ni Cd batteries, or can I just grab some other type instead?

I'll refrain from starting a new thread and just ask here instead... Is it actually advisable to charge batteries from one manufacturer using a charger from a different brand? For instance, using a generic store-brand charger, like something from Walmart, with a higher-end set of premium batteries?

All that talk about how the charger and the battery have to be from the exact same manufacturer? It’s just a way to stop you from buying third-party gear—nothing more.

Is it possible to use 1.5V C batteries in a charger that specifically specifies slots for 4 x 1.2V C cells?

I'm not entirely convinced you can actually find rechargeable 1.5V batteries—as far as I know, they only come in 1.2V versions.

And honestly, then it just looks like nothing at all...
