Does the protocol for them mirror what’s used for older women, or are they being prescribed a lower dose or perhaps a milder formulation of the pills?
Everyone seems obsessed with the idea that this is some kind of hormonal landmine that inevitably leads to complications like heavy bleeding. Yet, from the women I’ve actually spoken to who have taken them, the experience wasn't nearly as catastrophic as the rumors suggest—provided, of course, one doesn't overdo it.
What exactly is the mechanism behind the bleeding, and just how much of a genuine risk are we talking about here?

Potential Side Effects
It is quite common for about half of all women to experience nausea or even vomiting after using most emergency contraceptive methods. Other potential side effects include breast tenderness, headaches, dizziness, abdominal pain, and various disruptions to the menstrual cycle—meaning your next period might arrive earlier than expected, later than usual, or simply be much heavier than normal. To date, there have been no documented instances of serious health complications that would necessitate hospitalization or an emergency room visit.
