Glad I could 🙂

Just gotta be a bit more careful about what software you're downloading from now on.
If you've already got Windows, honestly, a solid free antivirus like Microsoft Security Essentials is a great way to go.
Besides that, there are plenty of other free options that work on all versions of Windows—I know people have been raving about Comodo lately, and then you've got AVG and a bunch of others, so just do a little digging.
If you don't want to drop cash on AV software (which isn't actually that pricey, especially if you grab multi-device licenses), then sticking to the free stuff is definitely the right move. It's much better than trying to get around paying for premium software with shady workarounds. 🙂

If you've got legitimate Windows licenses, a solid free antivirus like Microsoft Security Essentials is plenty.
Beyond that, there are plenty of other free options that work on all versions of Windows—people have been raving about Comodo lately, and you've always got AVG or others to consider, so just do some digging.
If you can't swing paying for AV software (which isn't even that expensive, especially if you grab multi-device licenses), then free tools are the right way to go. It's definitely better than messing around with cracked versions of paid software. 🙂

I get that, but the keygen was infected by Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware—which is actually a great program to use when I boot my PC into Safe Mode to run scans. Right now I'm using NOD32, though I used to run Essential too. ....... xxxxxxx let's not go there xxxxxxx 🙂 🙄
And I'm running into another issue with these Windows installs—whenever I'm playing something like bfbc2, the screen and audio will just suddenly freeze up. It’s not just a simple stutter either; there’s this loud buzzing sound, and nothing responds—not Task Manager, not the Windows key, nothing. The only way out is a hard reset. 😕

Can you walk me through that one? Like, what does it matter if someone actually paid for it if they've got a license or whatever 😉

Well...
I keep running into an error whenever I try to install Windows 7..
Basically, everything seems fine when I insert the DVD into the drive, but instead of loading the installation files, it just throws a "Windows installer error" at me..
I'm honestly a bit stumped—does anyone have any idea what might be causing this hiccup?

Are you actually certain that Windows 7 DVD is even bootable? 🙂

How am I supposed to tell if the disc is bootable? I've already burned three different versions of Windows—I set the boot device to the CD-ROM, then the second hard drive, then the floppy, and hit reset to try and force it to boot... but nothing happens. It just boots straight into my old OS like I didn't even touch anything. 😕

Does anyone happen to know how to shut off those constant updates? Basically, whenever I shut down my computer, it tells me it’s installing something... It wasn't an issue before, but suddenly every single time I power off, it tries to install about five different items—and I swear they're the same ones over and over again. It feels like something is stuck mid-install, so it just keeps trying to finish the same task every time I reboot. If anyone knows how to disable this or actually fix it, let me know, because it's starting to drive me a little crazy... 😁 What is it even trying to install anyway? Like, remember how Windows XP used to work without all this nonsense?

I set my boot priority to the CD-ROM first, then the secondary hard drive, then the floppy, and I restart the PC hoping for the best—but it just boots straight into my existing Windows like I didn't even try anything. It's like the computer isn't even seeing the disc. 😕

If you already have Windows running on your machine and you’re trying to upgrade by popping a bootable Windows DVD into the drive, there’s a specific window of time during startup where you have to hit a key on your keyboard. If you actually press it, the installation process kicks off. If you miss it or just don't bother, the computer will just bypass the disc and boot straight into your current Windows from the hard drive—at least, that's my take on what you're asking. 🙂

So, what would you all recommend? I’m honestly at a bit of a loss here... what should my next move be? A close friend of mine managed to get everything installed without any trouble at all, yet for some reason, I can't seem to make it work on my end. I just don't quite grasp why it's being so difficult for me specifically.

How did you burn those Windows files onto the CD?

Just let it finish the installation once. If you're sure they're just updates, you can always disable Automatic Updates afterward.

Honestly, just let it finish the installation—if you're already sure we're talking about updates here—and then once it's done, just go ahead and disable Automatic Updates...

At first, everything seemed fine and it would only pop up occasionally, but now it’s like this loop—it tries to install those five specific items every single time. I let it run through the whole process, but then when I shut the computer down and turn it back on the next day, it's right back at the start trying to install them all over again.😁

I don't really get what the issue is here.

Maybe take a look at this link and try following these steps:

I'm a little perplexed here... it isn't exactly my first time installing Windows... but for some reason, the DVD won't allow me to boot from it, even though I've double-checked everything in the BIOS and it all seems to be set up correctly.
And when I attempt to launch the installation manually through My Computer, I just run into a
Windows Installer ERROR
which looks like this... LINK...

So, if anyone could lend a hand, I'd truly appreciate it... oh, and just to clarify, my hardware meets all the necessary requirements for Windows 7.

Wait, are you actually planning on setting up a dual boot with Windows XP and Windows 7, or...

I let it finish, thinking we're good, but then I shut the damn thing down, restart it the next day, and there it is again... doing the exact same thing.😁

Go to start-->type in Windows update-->click it, then look over on the left side for the "Change settings" option (hit that) -->just select "Never check for updates"🙂

I'm betting you're running a bootleg version of Windows—if that's the case, this is probably your best bet to make the headache go away once and for all.👍

Once you're in there, you'll see an option on the left-hand side labeled "Change settings" (go ahead and click that)... from there, you can just select "Never check for updates" to get it sorted... 🙂

I’m assuming we’re dealing with some pirated versions of Windows here—if that's the case, honestly, the best move is just to handle it this way... once you do, it should stop giving you all that trouble... 👍

Thanks! 🙏 I mean, I don't think anything major should break if I just switch this off... I honestly have no clue what exactly is being installed right now anyway—it’s all a bit of a mystery to me... 😁

look, if you don't even know what's being installed, you might as well just kill it 😁
better safe than sorry before something totally breaks 😁 👍

Oh, no, I'm already running Windows XP SP2, I just want to get Windows 7 installed on top of it..
