@ Mirac7, that was quite the monologue... Did you realize you're replying to a post from the Black Sabbath era where it's pretty obvious the guy was just joking around? You seemed a little worked up over it.
Take five 🙂

And he’s still bragging about using pirated software 😁

@Michael Richardson14/">@@Michael Richardson14: Have you tried that thing where you right-click before launching the program and select "Run as administrator"? Does that actually do anything?

Ever since I did a fresh Windows 7 installation on my rig, everything has been stuttering like crazy. It’s driving me nuts. I check Task Manager and the CPU is just sitting there at 10% usage while the RAM is barely even touching its limit—I'm seeing maybe 1.3 to 1.6 GB used out of my 3 GB of DDR2 on a 2.4 Quad processor.
It feels like my system isn't even breaking a sweat or using what I actually paid for. Does anyone have any clue how to fix this so my PC actually pulls its weight?

So, what exactly do you mean by stalling and stopping? Walk me through it with an example, if you can. 🙂

too.

I have that option available, but I'm still running into the exact same wall. It simply refuses to install unless I am logged directly into an administrator account.

Look, sometimes when I click something, the whole thing just hangs for about 10 seconds before it finally catches up. Or even just a simple click—nothing happens immediately, it's like the system is wading through molasses. It wasn't doing this before. I only installed the graphics drivers, which is all I needed to get it running. Is there something else I'm supposed to install on Windows 7?
But honestly, it was fine a week ago, and I did the exact same thing—just installed the GPU drivers. You got any idea how to speed this thing up? Maybe a setting I can tweak or some software I can run...

Quick question regarding my Windows 7 microphone.
I have my microphone plugged into my laptop, but I can't hear any of the input through my speakers!
If I go to "Sound" > "Recording devices" > "Record," I can see the green 😁 levels jumping around on the equalizer, which means the mic is definitely picking up sound.

I checked the > and everything is cranked up to the max.

Everything else sounds fine, but the microphone itself is just giving me total silence 😠
.
Do you think this is a driver issue? I'm pretty sure I installed everything, but 🤷 I could be wrong, or maybe something else is messing with it.
Also, I noticed that in Windows 7, I don't see the "Volume mixer" laid out quite like it was in Windows XP, where you had those individual sliders for every single device. 😢

Have you actually checked the Device Manager yet to see if there’s some kind of yellow exclamation point or question mark hanging around? 🙂

It’s not showing up under "Sound, video and game controllers." All I see is "imaging devices" (for the webcam) and "other devices > unknown devices."

First, I threw Windows 7 onto my C: drive, then slapped Windows XP on the D: drive.
Everything went smooth enough at first. But now? After getting Windows XP running, it’s like that's the only OS that exists. It just boots straight into it.
How do I actually get a boot menu back so I can choose which one to run?

So, here’s the deal with how things load up: Windows 7 and Windows XP actually handle their startup processes pretty differently. It’s kind of like how a modern smartphone can easily run an old app, but that old phone isn't going to know what to do with a brand-new app. In this case, Windows 7 is smart enough to recognize and let you boot into those older versions of Microsoft operating systems, but Windows XP? It just doesn't see Windows 7 as an option, so it won't let you boot into it at all. If you're stuck in that loop, the fix usually comes down to repairing the master boot record. Honestly, the easiest way to tackle it is just to grab a handy little tool like EasyBCD. It makes the whole thing much smoother.

Go to your microphone settings, right-click properties, head over to the Listen tab, and check the box that says "Listen to this device," then hit apply.

If you end up getting that annoying feedback loop when you crank up the speakers, just turn down the microphone input level.

Not really my area of expertise.
Where am I supposed to install this thing? On the Windows 7 side or the Windows XP side?
Can someone walk me through this? I've never messed with this kind of stuff before. Thanks.

The program is designed for Windows 7, so I guess it depends on where you actually plan to install it. 🙄

So I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit right now... if I want to jump over to the 64 bit version, am I gonna have to wipe everything and format the whole drive?

Yeah, you pretty much do.

I was messing around with some antivirus software—honestly, I had this nagging feeling it was just a glorified keygen virus, but I went ahead and ran it anyway. Finished the install, gave the computer a quick reboot, and now my desktop icons are completely messed up. They've all changed to these weird, wrong ones

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/9717/35809536.png

If anyone knows how to fix this, please help me out. I might have made things worse by accident, since I was busy nuking a few programs just a few minutes before this happened 😕🙏

Either scrap that Norton entirely, or maybe just run a System Restore back to a date when things actually worked. 🙂

Yeah, sure, but what's the point? I already ran a restore back to a date before I even installed that Norton junk—I even did a full scan and wiped everything out—but this issue is still hanging around like a bad smell..
