Thanks.

While I've got you, what's the deal with these updates they keep pushing? Are they actually necessary? Like, do I really need to be updating my Windows, or is it just noise?

Back when I was running XP, I completely disabled those updates. I never touched them, and honestly, everything worked perfectly fine for me.🤷

honestly you're better off just running the updates.. just don't touch that one specific one that checks if your Windows is legit. can't remember the exact KBxxxxx since I'm stuck on Vista right now, so maybe someone else can fill me in...
or just slap on SP1 and kill Windows update entirely...🤷

frozentiger6 said:The other day I grabbed a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit from the web and got it installed. Obviously, I had an activator ready, ran the program manually, registered the OS, and everything seems to be running fine... however, most of my buddies are trying to convince me that I should just switch to the 64-bit version instead. They're claiming that this 32-bit version isn't even "real" Windows 7, calling it total garbage and saying nothing works right, etc., etc.

Dammit, what am I supposed to do here? I've only got 2 GB of RAM. Should I bite the bullet and install the 64-bit version anyway, or just stick with the 32-bit? I'm thinking about doing the reinstall now while my C: drive is still mostly empty, before I start cluttering it up with all the programs I actually need... honestly, I don't run any "heavyweight" software, so the 32-bit setup is plenty for me right now.

Can you even run 64-bit on 2 GB of RAM? I see it lists 2 GB as the bare minimum requirement, whereas the 32-bit can run on as little as 1 GB, but I don't know—that "minimum configuration" stuff always feels a bit too close for comfort.🤷

With only 2GB of RAM, there's zero need for 64-bit. You definitely don't need it unless you're running heavy-duty applications. Also, you should definitely run updates, even if you have to do them manually to verify exactly what you're installing first.👍

I was trying to remember where they tucked away that "Run" command in Windows 7... you know, the one where you can just type in cmd and have the command prompt pop right up... I remember back when I was using XP, it was sitting right there in the Start menu, but I can't seem to track it down here, and since my system is still set to American English, I'm having a bit of a hard time navigating through the menus...

It’s an order, but if you just type it into the search bar or directly into CMD, you'll find it just the same

And if you want to use the Run command, just type "Run" into the search bar and launch 👍

well, if you want to use the run command, just type it into the search and hit enter👍

oh, thanks...
but I wasn't actually looking for the cmd itself, I was trying to write out a little function using shutdown -s -t ... and I actually managed to get that part working perfectly🙂)

It’s just a run command, plain and simple. Just fire off the command—and hey, if you want to make it easier on yourself, you can definitely add it to your Start menu, just make sure you check the box first. 👍

Just hit the Windows key and the "R" key at the same time on your keyboard. 🙂

Sure, you could look at it that way, but honestly, I’m getting to an age where my brain just doesn't want to juggle all those technical acronyms anymore—not that I can even keep track of the few I actually *do* remember. 😂👍

Hey everyone on the forum,

I've run into a bit of a headache with my Windows 7 32... basically, every once in a while, my Devices and Printers panel just completely freezes up. That little green loading bar starts moving along, trying to find all my gear, and then it just... stops. It sits there forever. Eventually, it manages to finish loading everything, but then nothing actually works right... you know, the printer won't print, things are just glitchy...

Has anyone else dealt with something like this before?

Thanks for any help

Regarding KB971033:
Just so you know, Service Pack 1 already includes that specific update. 😉

biker23 said:I've got SP1 installed, but it doesn't show my system as "genuine," even though I pulled the SP1 through Windows Update. 😁

Everything seems to be running just fine, same as before the SP1 install. 😉

I have SP1 installed, but I can't find KB971033 listed in my Windows Update history. 🤷
Does it matter that I'm running the 64-bit version of Windows 7? 🤷

@ Taylor Doyle79

Let me correct myself: SP1 does not include KB971033; I misstated that earlier because that's how I read it
.
Take a look at this Excel sheet "Hotfixes and Security Updates included in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1"—that specific update isn't listed in there
.
If you can't find it in your history, that's actually a better sign 😉.

It doesn't matter whether you're running Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit
.

Let me set the record straight: SP1 does not include KB971033. I misspoke earlier because that's how I initially interpreted the documentation.

If you check this Excel sheet "Hotfixes and Security Updates included in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1", you'll see that specific update isn't listed there.

If it’s missing from your update history, that actually confirms it. 😉

It makes no difference whether you're running Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit.

👍

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I was wondering how to set the language to American?
Everything is showing up in English for me.

everything's stuck in English for me.

English is probably better honestly, but whatever works for you. You running the Ultimate version?
if you are, you can just grab the American language pack through Windows Update

I picked up a laptop about a year ago, and it came with 🤷Windows 7
pre-installed on it. Everything is in English—what kind of version would that be? 🤔 😬
I guess I don't really know much about this kind of stuff.
Why do you think having it in English might be better?

all in English... what kind of version is that? 🤔 😬
I don't really get this tech stuff.
why do you think English is better?

just right-click My Computer / Properties and see what it says under Windows 7 ______?
If you don't know English well enough to want it in American 😁

My system is stuck in English.

You could try using
VistaWizard or maybe
w7toolkit
