stormycanyon4 said:Just slap another 2 GB in there and enjoy yourself—RAM is dirt cheap these days anyway. Don't listen to Daniel Vaughn3 and his nonsense. He disabled every single service on Windows 7, used to run MS-DOS programs off floppy disks, and played Tetris... apparently, 512 MB is plenty for him... actually, given his needs, he’d probably be fine with 64 KB...

Daniel Vaughn3... if you were Pinocchio, you wouldn't even be able to get close enough to the screen to see which OS you even have installed..

I didn't disable any services, and I certainly wasn't running any MS-DOS programs.

If Windows 7 is stuttering for you people with 2 GB of RAM, then you clearly don't know how to configure it. Everything runs perfectly fine for me on just 512 MB of RAM, and frankly, I couldn't care less whether you believe me or not.☕

Daniel Vaughn3... Haven't you figured out by now that everyone here basically treats you like some kind of forum mascot?

Even if you claimed you could run Windows 7 without any RAM at all—we’d probably all just believe you. 😉

I guess S. T. A. R. S. would still run on 512 MB, it’s just a matter of how it actually performs 🤔 😬 Probably not nearly as snappy as it would with 2 GB of RAM, or even better, 4 GB. ☕

Finally, someone makes sense... Honestly, Windows 7 runs perfectly fine for me on just 512 MB of RAM, and games like Half-Life 2 Episode Two run flawlessly without any stuttering at all.

You know, stormycanyon4... it actually hurts—it really does—how people perceive me and what they think of me.

So, I just picked up an HP ProBook 4710 notebook PC (VC436EA), got Windows 7 x64 installed, and now I'm hunting for some basic software...
I'm kind of stuck using Alcohol 120% right now. I downloaded this game that uses .bin and .ceu extensions, and Alcohol finds the .ceu file in the top window, but for some reason, it won't let me load it into the bottom one. 😢
I also tried messing around with a few different versions of Daemon Tools, but every single time it just tells me it isn't compatible with Windows 7.

Anyone got a fix for this?

Maybe just grab the latest menu from the web—it actually works fine.
Man, I've got three physical disks here and I’m trying to squeeze everything onto two for a backup, but Windows is being a total pain and won't let me.
Basically, it'll only let me save to the third disk. Here's a screenshot.

Why does it say "System"?? Okay, I get that it's saving some Windows data to another drive, but why on two different ones, for crying out loud? Is there any way I can actually choose where all this junk gets stored?

As far as I can tell, this thread is specifically about Windows 7.
I think I saw a post claiming it only came in 64-bit, but there's definitely a 32-bit version out there.
Personally, I prefer the 64-bit version—it’s bigger, better, and runs smoother. Back in June 2009, they were offering a free trial, so I grabbed one for a year.

I really need some help here before I lose my mind... whenever I try to delete a file from Program Files or even just something off my desktop, I constantly get hit with permission errors saying I don't have authorization (even though I'm logged in as an administrator). Other times, it tells me the file is currently being used by another program. Does anyone know a way to actually have "authority" over these folders so I can just delete things? I'm tired of messing around with individual folder security settings every single time I want to clear out a movie or an old album😠?

if I make the jump to 64-bit, what's the deal with software... do I need to hunt down specific versions just for 64-bit or will all this 32-bit stuff still run on a 64-bit system?

Good grief, what on earth are you all struggling with? Now I finally see why there’s such constant whining about Windows every single week. Honestly, people, it’s becoming clear that most of you don't even know how to navigate an operating system properly... and then you lose your minds just because some random software isn't behaving. For heaven's sake, the information regarding these programs has been repeated a million times across the entire internet already.

Just save yourselves the headache and download PowerISO instead. As for the rest of your questions, I truly have nothing to say... :image

Ugh, they’re only showing up on the third drive. Here are the screenshots.
I can't see any text in that link. If you want me to rewrite something, you'll need to paste the actual content here. I'm ready when you are.
What on earth is this "System" folder doing here??? Okay, fine, I get that it’s just storing some Windows data on a different drive, but why in the hell does it need to be on two separate ones??? Can I actually choose where all this junk gets saved, or am I just stuck with this mess?

Looking at the screenshot, you’ve got your backup location set to "download Files" on the H: drive. So, what's the point of having that "Backup" folder sitting on the F: drive? It feels backwards. Shouldn't you be backing up your C:, D:, and H: drives onto the F: drive instead?
So you’ve got three physical drives—one internal (your C drive) and two externals. My suggestion? Use one external strictly for backing up your C drive, and dedicate the other one to your "stuff" and "download Files." That's how I'd handle it. 🙂
Don't be an idiot. Back up your stuff. Seriously. One bad drive failure or a botched update and everything you've worked on is gone. Just do it.

I could've sworn I saw a post somewhere claiming that Windows 7 only comes in... Regarding 64-bit graphics. But hey, there's also a 32-bit version available.
I like it better. Bigger is always better, and honestly, it was just way easier to work on. Free sample offer available. It was back in June of 2009, and I finally got my hands on it. Signed a one-year lease on it.

The 64-bit version (x86-64) of Windows 7. 😉
A free one-year trial? Are you kidding me? 😕

I'm trying to delete some stuff from Program Files.Either when I try to delete things via terminal or directly from my desktop, I constantly get hit with those annoying "Access Denied" errors—even though I'm logged in as an administrator. Or, even better, it tells me the file is currently being used by another program. It’s exhausting. Is there actually a way to just take total control over these folders? I don't feel like messing around with individual folder permissions every single time I want to clear out a movie or an old music album. There has to be a better way to have actual authority over my own files.😠?

Seriously, what am I even reading? Why on earth would anyone think about deleting stuff from Program Files? 🤷
Maybe you should try doing some actual research first. ? 🙄

But wait—what’s the point of having that "Backup" folder sitting on the F: drive then? I guess it feels a little backwards, doesn't it? Wouldn't it make more sense to actually back up your C:, D:, and H: drives onto the F: partition instead?
So, you've got three physical drives—I'm guessing one internal (your C drive) and two external ones? My suggestion would be to use one external specifically for backing up your C drive, and then use the other one for all your "stuff" and "download Files." Just a thought, anyway. 🙂
Seriously though—please, just back up your files. I know it sounds like one of those annoying things people say when they don't have anything better to do, but man, you really don't want to be caught without a backup when everything goes south. I've been there, and trust me, it’s not a fun way to spend a weekend. Just grab an external drive or toss your important stuff into the cloud—whatever works for you—and get it done. It’s probably worth the five minutes of effort, I guess. Better safe than sorry, right?

I get that, I really do—and honestly, I want to make it happen too—but I just need to be able to run the backup specifically to the (H) drive.
That’s kind of where the issue lies, too...
So, I've got three internal drives sitting here—one's a tiny 40GB, then there's a 250GB, and finally a 1TB drive.
See, that's the whole catch—I just want to back up my Windows partition onto two different drives, you know? Just to be safe. I can easily move all my other stuff around wherever else I need to, but getting that OS part covered is what matters to me.
I'm thinking about backing everything up to my F and D drives—because hey, you can never have too much extra space, right? Better safe than sorry, I guess. 🙂)
And he's just giving it to me on (H)... I guess.

@ darkviper7

Try nuking that "backup setting" entirely and just build a new one from scratch using the parameters you actually want. 🙄

EDIT: thank god, I actually pulled it off—though maybe not quite how I pictured it would go🙂 Anyway, the main thing is that I finally have a backup copy

Is that specific toolbar from the desktop available in Windows 7? You know, the one that sat right at the top back in Vista. If it's gone for good, is there any way to get it back using some kind of third-party software?

I'm trying to figure out how to apply specific folder view settings globally across my entire computer.

The thing is, I can't seem to find the "Apply to All Folders" button in my current settings. It’s just not clickable.

My assumption is that I need to go into a specific folder, tweak the view parameters there, and then tell the OS to push those settings to every other folder—kind of like how things used to work back in the Windows XP days.

If there's an expert out there who knows the workaround, I'd really appreciate the help.🙂

I think you'll find the fix on this page:

Pretty simple, fast, and gets the job done. 🙂

🤔Are you talking about the Windows Sidebar? 🙄

It isn't in Windows 7 anymore (link).

Right-click on the desktop, then select Gadgets.
