Can anyone tell me if there’s an option in the settings to wake my PC using just the keyboard—assuming it isn't in sleep mode—similar to how things worked back in the Windows XP days... where I could shut everything down and just tap a key to bring it back to life...

I don't mean waking it from sleep mode, but actually powering it on from a full shutdown, similar to how things worked back when I was using Windows XP. Back then, I could shut everything down completely and still boot the machine up by pressing a key on my keyboard.

You can actually set that up right in your BIOS settings.

So, when exactly is Windows 8 dropping? I really hope it’s not just some beta version 😉

It’ll likely be officially released around January 2013, but you can find a dedicated thread for Windows 8 somewhere else here.

Microsoft is eyeing a late February 2012 release for the Windows 8 beta, according to Computerworld.

Man, wow... I honestly thought it would be here in like three or four months.

I need some help here. I’m installing Windows 7 Ultimate, and now I’ve got zero internet connectivity—just getting that "No connections are available" message—and my laptop won't even charge. I went into the Device Manager to update the drivers, and everything is supposedly up to date, if you know what I mean. Does anyone know what the catch is? My laptop still has about two hours of battery life left, but if it dies, I'm basically screwed.

Are you seeing any yellow exclamation points or question marks showing up in your Device Manager? 🙂

Under Other Devices, I've got a network controller and an unknown device. Also, just to clarify, it says there's no battery, even though it runs fine on the charger. Consider replacing your battery.

First, I’d suggest getting those drivers installed for the LAN and wireless adapters, and then we can see what other issues might be hanging around. 😢

Maybe the battery just finally kicked the bucket? If that's the case, we're looking at a hardware failure—just another consumable part that eventually wears out, like anything else else on a PC.

So, I installed both the LAN and wireless drivers, and still nothing. Absolutely nothing. Dealing with these drivers is driving me insane. Just pure madness.

Everything was working perfectly fine until I decided to install the new Windows.

If everything was running smoothly on your old installation, there’s a real chance this new setup didn't land correctly. It sounds ridiculous, I know, but it happens more often than you'd think. Just try reinstalling it—and for heaven's sake, don't do it while running on battery power.

More importantly, though: are we talking about some unreleased beta version of Windows or one of those "modded" builds floating around? That's a huge distinction. You absolutely cannot be using some garbage, stripped-down version if you want stability.

Main thing is, are we talking about an official version of Windows or some custom modded build? That matters because you don't want some junk version.

I'll give it a shot; it's my only move at this point. Not sure which one I picked—there were plenty of options like Ultimate or Office... I guess that counts as "modded" to some people.
This wouldn't even be an issue if I wasn't heading out early tomorrow morning. I decided to help my brother set up his Windows, and now I'm stuck dealing with this all night. Haven't even started packing yet. 🙂

It’s not just one version; you’ve got all these different builds like BlackRock, Extreme Edition, Gamer Edition, Elite Gamers, Ubuntu Style, or whatever else they decide to call them because

they go ahead and tweak or disable the exact setting you actually need while leaving everything else untouched, and then suddenly you're stuck with a system that's completely broken

look, if it's the Ultimate edition and nobody has messed with the settings, then it should work fine enough

Is there anything else showing up with a yellow warning icon in the Device Manager? 😢

Same as before. Everything is back to square one, even after a fresh install. Thanks for the help, guys, but this isn't going anywhere. I’ll have to hand this over to someone who actually knows what they're doing; this whole thing is just a total mind fuck. 🙂

One last shot: if anyone can track down the LAN and wireless drivers for this laptop, let me know. Maybe I just haven't found the right ones yet. I'd appreciate it.

I guess this link for the drivers might be better, since it goes straight to the download page 🙂

Greetings 😁

Does anyone here happen to know how one might go about enabling all four cores for an Intel Core i5-2320 running at 3.00 GHz with 7 MB of cache?
When I possess a processor designed with multiple cores, I expect the system to actually utilize every single one of them.

Furthermore, what is the typical duration for your Windows 7 boot sequence before you reach the desktop login screen? For my part, it takes approximately 15 seconds, which leads me to wonder—is that considered excessive?
