Taylor Morales31 said:You can actually just go into your BIOS, set the ROM drive as your primary boot device, pop in a DVD with the software, and you're good to go!

Alternatively, if your BIOS supports it, you can install via a USB drive—just make sure it’s at least 4GB and completely empty (it usually shows up in the BIOS as a USB hard drive).

There are tons of tutorials online covering this step-by-step.

Just remember, you can't format the operating system while you're actually running it; it's kind of like trying to saw off the branch you're sitting on, right? 🙂

Hehe, I totally see what you mean now! 😁D
Thanks!

Is there any way to make my desktop icons look translucent or blurred, kind of like how hidden files appear? I’ve been digging around on Google, but everything I find just points to that Registry tweak for adding shadows via ListviewShadow, which isn't really what I'm going for.

I’ve got a question. A friend wants me to install Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32 on his machine. My concern is this: if the installation hits a snag or fails halfway through, is there a risk the system just reverts back to Windows XP?

Thanks in advance.

So, I shut down my PC like everything was totally fine last night, right? But then I boot it up this morning and—boom—it’s like a complete wipeout. Everything is back to factory settings. Don't get me wrong, all my actual programs are still sitting there, but the whole system feels like a fresh Windows install. My documents? Empty. Just blank voids where my files used to be. All my custom settings? Gone. I spent ages trying to fix it all, wrestling with the settings to get things back to how they were, but as soon as I hit reset, it’s like the whole nightmare just repeats itself. It’s driving me absolutely insane, seriously. Does anyone have any clue what the hell is going on? Help me out before I lose my mind!!!

Does anyone know why Windows Media Center keeps launching every time I close a game on my PC?

Got a PC here
-64 MB graphics
-768 MB RAM
-2.0 GHz processor
-80 GB HDD
Wondering if I can run Windows 7 on this. Will it glitch out or lag like crazy? Need to know before I try so I don't deal with a mess later. 🙂

Help me out here. 😁

I’m guessing it’s some kind of demo version where they shove ads at you right at the end, and maybe one of those triggers WMP... Let us know if that's not what's happening, though. We need more details...

I spent the whole day trying to rebuild everything and get things back to how they were, but then I tried a quick reset and boom—same exact mess again. Someone please tell me what's happening before I lose my mind.

What kind of antivirus are you running? Did you install anything new yesterday? Honestly, if I were you, I’d just back up whatever files you can salvage and wipe the drive completely. A clean install of Windows is usually the only way to stop these ghost issues. If that's not an option, let us know and we can try digging deeper...

It's not a demo. It's Football Manager—and I'm using Daemon Tools to run it, if that even matters to you.

Any help would be appreciated. 😁

It's not going to run well. Honestly, don't bother wasting your time trying to install Windows 7. 🙂

Please help me out. 😁

You could technically install Windows 7 on that rig, but it’ll crawl along like a scandal following a Republican Party administration.

So,

I just picked up a new laptop over in Austria, and it came pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium. The catch is that it’s the German version, which is honestly a massive headache because I can barely make heads or tails of what's on my own screen.
Is there any straightforward—and ideally legal—way to swap the language over to English or maybe even some American English settings? I tried messing around with a tool called Vistalizator, but it’s giving me nothing but grief and refusing to install.

Thanks in advance for any pointers, and sorry if I'm repeating something that's already been covered elsewhere.

Is there any simple, say, legal way to switch the language to English or American? I tried using a tool called Vistalizator, but it won't let me install it.

Thanks in advance for the help, and my apologies if this has already been covered.

Check Windows Update to see if you can download an American language pack. If you were running Ultimate, you could.

What are your current CPU and memory usage percentages?
At what point does it become excessive—or rather, when is the system officially overloaded?

I think I've got some kind of virus or something. Every time I fire up a game, after about 5 minutes the screen goes nuts—white lines everywhere, green squares popping up... basically, the whole thing just starts lagging out hard.
It's a laptop, running an Intel core i5 480m 2.67ghz with integrated graphics, 4GB of RAM, and an Nvidia 315m with 512mb.

I've already tried defragging the drive, cleaning things up, and running a scan with Malwarebytes. I'm running Windows 7.
Honestly, I’ve got a bad feeling about swchost.exe, because it’s sitting at 30% CPU usage and eating up about 40-50% of my memory.

p.s. My PC has been acting sluggish ever since I installed Counter-Strike, but I nuked it as soon as I spotted some sketchy files like vldrv.
What should I do? Can anyone help me out here?

Did you get all those graphics drivers installed? You've got that Intel integrated one on the processor plus the Nvidia card separately. Are you even sure that Nvidia chip is actually turning on?
Those white lines and green "blocks" don't look like a virus to me... sounds more like a memory issue with the graphics card itself. Is everything else running okay? Like, is your new laptop maybe overheating or something?

Neither of those cards are really meant for modern gaming, but an old school version of Counter-Strike should run just fine on both, hmm.

Those white lines and green "blocks" aren't looking like a virus to me; that sounds like a massive red flag for failing VRAM on your GPU. Is everything else running okay otherwise? Like, is your laptop overheating or something?

Neither of those cards is exactly a beast for modern gaming, but old-school Counter-Strike should run smooth as butter on both, hmmm.

I think you totally missed my point here...
My new laptop is practically fresh out of the box—picked it up back in January. I was crushing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on max settings with zero lag, no stuttering at all.
I even played Battlefield 3 at max resolution and it was smooth sailing.
Then, some buddy of mine talked me into playing Counter-Strike because apparently, they wanted to jump into the multiplayer action.
The problem was, he brought along this wallhack that was absolutely riddled with junk. AVG and Malwarebytes didn't catch a single thing until I finally spotted a file named vldrv. Once I nuked that, AVG finally woke up and started screaming about viruses, Trojans, and all that bad stuff.
I wiped the game entirely, but I'm pretty sure the viruses are still lurking in the system.
Ever since I touched Counter-Strike, my whole machine has been lagging like crazy. My CPU usage is spiking up to 50% for no reason, mostly thanks to csns.exe and swchost.exe (you can see them in the screenshots).
I even tried booting into Safe Mode to hunt down those infected files, but when I try to delete them, I just get hit with an "access denied" error.
