I have a few questions 😁

How does one get MSN to sit down by the clock, like it did in those older versions of Windows? I mean, when I hit the X to close it, it should just go down there, but if I minimize it, it stays on the taskbar?
Is it even possible to change the color when something happens within a specific window? Yellow is the default for me, which I suppose is far too faint; I think I'd much rather see red.

Also, can I change the color when something happens within a specific window? Yellow is my default right now, but it’s too faint—I’d much rather have it turn red.

In Windows 7, they actually removed the ability to pin program icons to the end of the taskbar near the clock.
As for your second question, you can fix that by following this path:

Control Panel \ All Control Panel Items \ Personalization \ window color and appearance, then just click on Advanced appearance settings...
That will open up a window where you can tweak exactly what you're looking for.

And how does one run this in comp mode? 😁

There is another issue; whenever I attempt to download something, it refuses to save to my preferred directory, claiming I lack administrator permission 🙄 I am using the Pro version. However, when I performed the installation, I didn't set a password because I wanted to avoid that hassle (and perhaps because I might forget it anyway). I wonder if there is a way to disable this requirement?

I’ve hit another snag—whenever I try to download something, it won't let me save it where I want because it keeps saying I don't have administrator permission 🙄 I’m running the Pro version. When I originally installed everything, I didn't set a password because I didn't want to deal with it (and honestly, I might just forget it anyway). Is there a way to turn this off?

Control Panel\User Accounts

Your account name should be listed here, and right underneath it, it should say Administrator.
If there are any other user accounts on there that you didn't create yourself, feel free to delete them and switch your own account over to Admin status.

To set up a password: Control Panel\User Accounts\Create Your Password
That should do it. 😁

It’s nothing, really. I was just acting as both a standard user and an admin. 🤷 Perhaps a password should have been added to make it functional; I've gone ahead and set that up, so I suppose I'll give it a shot now. Thanks. 🙂

Just a simple question for the group. Is making the jump to Windows 7 actually worth the hassle? I'm wondering if I should ditch my reliable XP setup now or just hold out a little longer. Plus, does it still have all those typical growing pains you expect with a new release?

You need to be logged in as an admin and then delete the user account.

I'm mostly wondering if there are still those typical early-stage bugs and glitches that usually pop up with new releases.

You can definitely make the switch to Windows 7 without any hesitation; I've been running it daily for over six months now and haven't run into a single issue.
There aren't really any "growing pains" left to deal with, not since the beta phase ended, let alone now.
In my opinion, upgrading is highly recommended and honestly the best move to make at this point.

There wasn't even a user account; I was the only one there, just the admin being present.😁

I also need to figure out how to run MSN in computer mode so I can pin it down; it's cluttering up my taskbar.😬

All those initial teething pains disappeared back when they released the beta, let alone now.
Making the jump is definitely the right move, and honestly, highly recommended in every sense...

I second everything said here.

I dealt with a few minor glitches during the beta phase, but my laptop has been running flawlessly for several months now without a single error...

I've been running Windows 7 for about two months now and everything is smooth as silk, except for this one annoying thing where all the folders I "pin" to the jump list in Windows XP just keep vanishing. All I'm left with are the recent folders...
The last time they bailed on me was January 14th, and I pinned a few more folders back then, but now they're gone again, just disappearing into thin air...😕

Go ahead and run that upgrade if you haven't already done it.

Does anyone actually have a fix for this?
I just finished installing Windows 7 on my rig. I'm running a GeForce 9600 gt and I've already grabbed the latest drivers for it. Here's the headache: whenever I hook the PC up to my old CRT TV, I can't get the display to clone. I never had any issues with this back when I was using Windows XP, but now it's just being stubborn. Right now, the TV is just showing my wallpaper without any icons, stuck at the monitor's native resolution. What I need is an 800x600 resolution with the displays cloned so I can actually see my desktop. I'm connecting the computer and the TV via an S-Video cable.
Anyone got a clue?

Control panel - Display - Adjusts resolution
should probably let you tweak the resolution for both monitors—like, including the TV too. image

Alright, thanks.
So, am I looking at a clone setup?
