Jeremy Fisher78 said:it's fine, thanks anyway. maybe someone else knows. i guess i kind of messed up, lol. if nothing works, i'll just reinstall everything, because looking at it like this is driving me crazy, haha 🙂

Maybe try using System Restore to roll things back to before you broke it.

I could roll the system back, but only once we hit October, which really doesn't work in my favor at all.🙂

And honestly, anyone who knows what they’re doing can just trigger a system restore point when everything is running smoothly without any bugs—that takes literally a minute! But hey, if you don't want to deal with that, fine. Just wipe the drive and start from scratch with a clean install in October. I don't know which route is more worth your time, but that’s your call!

I'm having some trouble getting this software to behave on my Windows 7 version. I've managed to track down version 9.3, which seems to be the last one floating around online.
Every time I fire it up and hit browse to grab an AVI file, the window just looks totally empty—it won't even show me my AVI or SRT files. It used to work like a charm, and I really rely on it since I'm trying to get everything ready for my PlayStation 3.
The program is YouTube

When I launch it and try to browse for an AVI file, nothing shows up—not the AVI files or the SRT files. It used to work perfectly fine, and I really need it to get things ready for my PlayStation 3.

Try right-clicking it and selecting run as administrator.

So, I’ve been messing around with this Windows 7 disc of mine... After I finished the installation, it somehow managed to activate itself without me even touching a password. I actually installed it on a friend's laptop just so she could test it out for a few days, but for some reason, it didn't register—it's just sitting there telling her she has a 30-day trial period left. What's the deal with that? I've installed it on my own machines from this same disc several times before and everything worked perfectly fine. Any thoughts on what might be going on here...
Also, I was looking at my resource usage and noticed that as soon as I boot up, I'm already sitting at 1.22GB of RAM usage. Is that really that high? I mean, sure, I have my usual suite of programs running in the background, but when I check Task Manager, I can't find anything consuming that much memory...

Looks like you missed the forum rules. 🙂 This isn't really the spot to ask about activating pirated software. 😬

Look, please don't start getting into the whole piracy debate here:

If you aren't seeing them in the Task Manager, then they aren't actually running... You've gotta be systematic—go through the Task Manager, hunt down the specific services driving those tasks, and disable whatever you don't need. Also, turn off any Windows features that aren't useful to you. This site might serve as a decent template for you: http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htm

That didn't do the trick. I did notice something interesting though—I have an external drive with a FAT32 partition specifically set up for my PS3, and when I drop movies and subtitles there, everything works perfectly. But if I try using a partition formatted as NTFS, the system won't even recognize the video files or the subtitle files. It’s like it just ignores them entirely. On Windows 7, I can see all the files and play them through Windows Media Player without a hitch, but when I fire up aviaddxsubs, it sees the folders but the actual .avi and .srt files are totally invisible inside them. There aren't any specific settings in the program to fix this, which is weird because everything runs smoothly on Windows XP.
Any thoughts?

It's possible the drivers just aren't supported for that specific microphone, so you should probably check the manufacturer's website to see if they offer drivers specifically for a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows Vista. Drivers from Windows Vista will work too, you just have to manually point them out to the system within the Device Manager.

Windows 7 sees the files just fine and plays them through Windows Media Player without any issues, but when I run aviaddxsubs, it can see the folders but shows absolutely nothing inside them, neither the .avi nor the .srt files. There aren't any specific settings within the program to address this, yet everything functions flawlessly back on Windows XP.
Any ideas?

Give this a shot.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what the underlying cause might be.
I do know that flash drives and external drives generally need to be in FAT32...

So, here's the situation... I seem to be facing an issue that feels entirely unique, or at least incredibly rare, as I haven't come across anyone else describing anything similar. To give you some context, back when the beta (build 7000) first dropped, I installed it and was genuinely impressed; during those few months of testing, I didn't encounter a single crash or error. However, once I transitioned to the final release, the trouble started. After a successful installation, the system freezes up after about 30 minutes. The cursor locks up, and nothing works—not Ctrl+Alt+Del, not the sleep key on my keyboard—nothing besides a hard restart. Then, upon rebooting, the exact same thing happens: after roughly 30 minutes, it freezes again. I have already attempted ten different versions of Windows (both x64 and x32), both of which apparently work fine for everyone else. I'm completely out of ideas, so if anyone has any insight, please help... Specs: DFI Lan party DK790 FX-dark, AMD Athlon x2 5000+ @ 2.6Ghz, 3GB RAM, ATI Sapphire HD4830.

just run some memtest on your RAM to be safe

I did, but since I wasn't in the mood to sit there for hours—and honestly, I was running low on memory anyway—I just picked up a new 1GB stick. I swapped out the old 2GB module for the new one, but the issue persists. My first instinct was the RAM, too, though I'm starting to doubt that's the culprit unless this new stick arrived defective, which seems unlikely.

That usually happens when an HDD is full of bad sectors. What are your temps? Run some disk diagnostics and let me know. If it were a RAM issue, it would probably restart rather than just freeze.

PS. It might also be worth checking the capacitors on the motherboard (see if any are bulging or anything).

I actually checked the capacitors recently while I was cleaning out my junk drawer! I'll run the HDD test tonight. Any specific software you'd recommend? P.S.—I neglected to mention that once I roll back to Windows XP, the freezing stops entirely; everything runs perfectly.

That second part of the post makes things a bit more complicated. 🙂

Just grab Hiren's Boot CD. Once you download it, burn it as an image, leave it in the drive, restart the PC, and boot from the CD. Look under the disk testing tools for your specific drive manufacturer and run a long test if there's an option.

If that passes, then... maybe try flashing the BIOS. If that doesn't fix it, I guess the only thing left is a driver issue... You could potentially try a different version, maybe an older one.
