So, you're looking to grab a language pack... but which version of Windows 7 are we actually talking about here? Is it an OEM copy or the Retail version?

And just a heads-up—don't go hunting for any shady download links around here, because that's a direct violation of the Forum Rules.

I’m currently running Windows Vista Ultimate on my laptop, and I have my sights set on upgrading to Windows 7—but there's a catch. I'm wondering if an in-place upgrade is actually possible without having to wipe the entire hard drive clean? I know you could perform a similar jump from Windows Vista Basic to Windows Vista Ultimate, so I was curious if the same logic applies here.

Look, I'm not hunting for links, I just need some actual help!
I honestly have zero clue how this works.

It's Retail RTM if that's what you're asking.

Hey there! So, I’ve been running Windows 7 and everything was smooth sailing until today, when suddenly I get hit with this message: "this copy of windows is not genuine." Does anyone have any clue what’s going on or how I can fix this mess?
p.s. Full disclosure: I am definitely not some kind of "tech wizard"... 🙂

Maybe just pick up a licensed version of Windows 🤣

Well, thanks a ton for that insight. I had absolutely no idea...
Seriously, can we skip the condescending remarks?

I was wondering if it’s actually possible to perform a straight upgrade without having to go through the whole hassle of formatting my hard drive first? I know back when we were moving from Vista Basic up to Vista Ultimate, that kind of seamless transition was doable, so I can't help but wonder if the same logic applies here.

If you're looking to make that jump from Vista over to Windows 7, you really ought to make sure you've got Service Pack 1 installed on your Vista setup first, because once that's settled, everything should run smoothly without any major headaches. 🙂

please, cut out the stupid comments!

Aloooo, man!
First off, the comment wasn't stupid.
Second, you should probably check the Forum Rules. ☕

Maybe take a look at a few posts back where the moderator "Benjamin King2" gives warnings, if you haven't already checked the Forum Rules.

First off, there’s already a legitimate thread on this exact topic right here on the forum.

Second, for heaven's sake, pay attention to what you're updating... 👎

edit:
Keith Bennett38, you're being way too harsh. There is an existing thread about this; I didn't create it, nor did I approve it..... 🙂

That works for Windows XP, sure, but don't expect it to do squat for Windows Vista or Windows 7.

So, I’ve run into a bit of a snag.
A few months back, I finished installing Windows 7.
But when I went to fire up my speakers, there was absolutely nothing—no sound at all.
I’ve checked the hardware, and the speakers themselves are fine, and I’ve double-checked
to make sure everything is plugged into the correct jacks more times than I care to admit.
I’m trying to wrap my head around what could be causing this silence.
Could we be looking at a faulty sound card here? To give you a better idea of my setup, here is what I'm working with:

3.20 GHz Intel Pentium D
16 KB primary memory cache
2048 KB secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P5WD2-Premium Rev 1.xx
Nvidia GeForce 9500 gt (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1) [Display adapter]
Samsung SyncMaster [Monitor] (20.0", s/n 9CQ917057X, September 2008)

To be perfectly honest, most of these specs are just alphabet soup to me, so if someone with a bit of patience could walk me through what needs to be done and how to fix it, I would truly appreciate it.
Thanks.

So, you've been dealing with zero sound for months now? From what I can tell, you didn't actually install any specific drivers; you just let Windows handle everything, which clearly isn't working. I can see that from your display info: Nvidia GeForce 9500 gt (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1). If you still have the original driver CD that came with your PC, your best bet is to just run the audio drivers straight from that disc. Also, honestly, I’d highly recommend heading over to the Nvidia website to grab the latest drivers for your graphics card instead of relying on whatever generic stuff is floating around.

If you don't have the CD handy, just download the audio driver right here: http://asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=RG...ntent=download

I just finished downloading this tiny 48MB driver, and suddenly I’m being hit with a prompt demanding I register for WinZip.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! 😠

WHAT THE HELL!??! 😠

You're probably using an unregistered version of WinZip, so it's nagging you to sign up. Might be best to just uninstall it. Windows 7 actually has a built-in tool for Zips, so you can just use that.
Or maybe grab WinRAR? It does basically the same thing as WinZip, though the TRIAL lasts forever. 🙂
Once those 30 days are up, it'll just tell you the TRIAL period is over. 🙂

I am currently running Windows 7, but I have a strong desire to transition back to an XP environment. I attempted to initiate the installation using an XP boot CD, but unfortunately, the process simply refuses to proceed. Is there perhaps an alternative methodology one might employ to achieve this?

nah

you gotta go into your BIOS and tell it to actually boot from the CD/DVD drive first

Well, once those 30 days are up, it'll remind you that the TRIAL is over, obviously. 🙂

Alternatively, just install 7-Zip and you won't have to deal with any of those pop-up screens...

Anyone know how to pin a website directly to my taskbar? Like, just stick it right there so I can click it...

I know how you can do this in Chrome, but it won't be pinned directly to the taskbar—it’ll be pinned to the Chrome icon instead—so you'll have to right-click the Chrome icon to find the link to the site. Just drag the little icon from between the home button and the address bar down to the taskbar.
