Is anyone else running into this annoying issue where they try to download something through Internet Explorer and get hit with a message saying to contact the administrator? It’s like I don’t have permission or something, which happens all the time lately. Does anyone actually know how to fix this?

I'm guessing "that stuff" you're downloading is on a work computer, where there are likely restrictions in place (like blocking EXE files, ZIP files, or certain websites). 🙄

He could just hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to Task Manager, or right-click the Taskbar and select Task Manager. Honestly, he probably got it working by now anyway. 🙄

Nah, it’s not even at work. It's happening on my home PC. Ever since I first installed Windows 7, it’s been acting like this. It’s just how it is. I'll be downloading regular MP3s or whatever, and it doesn't happen every single time—sometimes the error pops up, sometimes it doesn't. It's totally random, you know?

I can't say for sure because I use Firefox on Windows 7 rather than using IE as my "default browser," and I haven't run into that specific issue yet.
Next time it happens, take a "snapshot" of the window (link) and post it here. 😉

Alright, here’s round two. The first time it downloaded just fine, totally normal, but then the second time? This nonsense happened.

Maybe you ought to mess with your User Account Control settings (Control Panel, User Accounts and Family Safety, User Accounts, Change User Account Control settings)

just slide that bar down to "never notify" (you'll need to restart after that),

or, if you aren't logged in as an Administrator, just right-click the app (IE) and select Run as Administrator.

Might actually work this time. 😉

I thought about switching back to a different OS, but since I managed to pass some job assessments using this version, I figured I should just grit my teeth and learn how to deal with it🙂
so... I'll probably be hanging out here quite a bit more😬

They really have a way of getting under your skin, don't they? 😉

I mean, you have to admit, it seems like the guys and girls over at Microsoft actually hit the mark this time around.

Hahaha, you actually got a good laugh out of me there. I mean, sure—the UI looks pretty much the same, but when it comes to actual performance? It’s night and day. Honestly, just thinking about how many gray hairs I grew dealing with the headaches caused by Vista...

Hey everyone, I’ve run into a bit of a headache here.
I just finished installing Windows 7, and now I can't seem to access a ton of websites that I know for a fact are live and running.
Specifically, I'm talking about some warez sites.
I already tried disabling the Windows firewall and Defender, but no luck—the issue persists.
Is this some kind of glitch within Windows itself, or is my ISP blocking these specific domains?
My provider is AT&T, and one example is xxx.warez-bb.org.

Is this a Windows issue, or did my ISP block them?
I'm using AT&T, and a site like xxx.warez-bb.org won't open, for example.

Here is what pops up when I try to access that Web page (AT&T Duo):

"This IP is being shared among many domains.
To view the domain you are looking for, simply enter the domain name in the location bar of your web browser."

I'm using Comcast, and sites like xxx.warez-bb.org aren't loading, for example.

Maybe boot up some Linux from a disc and see if it's actually the ISP or just a Windows issue.😉

Back when I was running XP, my graphics card showed up as having 1GB, but now on Windows 7, it’s telling me 512 MB.
Is there some kind of catch here—has anyone else dealt with something similar?

Does anyone happen to know if there's a way to move my taskbar icons over to the right side? I'd love to have them aligned on the right instead of the left. 🙂

I found this really handy little utility for rearranging all your taskbar buttons whenever you feel like it.

That’s an interesting concept, though it wasn't quite what I had in mind at first—and honestly, the little utility isn't even behaving properly for me. I suspect it might be because my taskbar is docked on the left rather than the bottom (or maybe I just haven't quite grasped how the logic works, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the culprit).

An alternative—though arguably a subpar one—would have been to let me tuck a custom icon or shortcut right into the system tray. I couldn't find an option for that, either, but honestly, let's not get bogged down in the weeds; that's just nitpicking at this point.

Look, man, don't take this the wrong way, but you’re overthinking this way too much. It's getting a bit ridiculous. 🤣
