Hey there,
Windows keeps nagging me about entering an activation key. Does anyone have a workaround to get this thing off my back?

It's pretty straightforward—just buy Windows and use the key from the license.🙂

The only thing I can tell you is to go buy Windows at a retail store.🤷
See, we actually can help after all.😁

Hey there. So, here’s the situation: I’ve got Windows 7 Ultimate on my PC—a friend installed it for me, so it’s almost certainly not an official license. Not long ago, I saw a prompt for some minor Windows 7 patch, so I downloaded it. Ever since then, I've been getting that "this copy of Windows is not genuine" notification in the bottom right corner, my desktop background keeps turning black, and every time I boot up, Windows asks if I want to verify the authenticity of my OS on their website.🙂
How do I get rid of this so they stop nagging me?

The best way we can help you on this forum is honestly just telling you to head down to Best Buy and pick up a copy of Windows.

Hey everyone. I’ve got a Sony DCR-HC19E handycam and I'm trying to capture some old footage from the tape via an IEEE1394 FireWire cable. Everything was working perfectly back when I was running Windows XP, but ever since I upgraded to Windows 7, the computer won't even recognize the camera when I plug it in 🤷.
I was also planning on using the chaptering feature in Windows Movie Maker, but finding a compatible version for Windows 7 is proving to be a headache. Does anyone happen to have a reliable link for the specific version of Movie Maker that actually works on Windows 7? I already know version 2.0 is a no-go on this OS... Thanks

I'm hoping to use the chaptering feature in Movie maker, but I'm having a hard time tracking down a version that actually works on Windows 7—does anyone have a link to the right Movie maker version for Windows 7? I know version 2.0 just doesn't work on Windows 7... Thanks
Since Windows 7 came out, they changed how things like email and Movie maker work. They introduced the Windows Live suite (Messenger, Mail, Writer, Movie Maker).
You should probably grab Movie maker from there.

I'll give that a shot. Should I just click the link you sent over, or try going through Windows Live? It feels like there isn't even a download option available in there...

Just hit the top link and click "Download." That pulls down wlsetup-web.exe (it's tiny, about 1MB). Run the installer, pick whatever apps you want, and you're done. 😉

So, I’ve got a bunch of extra user profiles cluttering up my computer that I really need to wipe out, but I’m honestly stuck on how to actually do it. If anyone could walk me through the process, I’d really appreciate the help...
edit: My bad to the mod there, I completely missed that this was already a pinned thread.

Just a heads-up before you go deleting any accounts—make sure you actually grab whatever you need from your My Documents folder and the desktop first... wouldn't want to lose everything over a moment of impulsiveness.

Hey there...
I didn't realize what that Roaming folder actually was, so I nuked it to save some disk space. Big mistake. Now I've realized I totally screwed up because half my apps won't even launch properly.
Any way to get it back??
Seriously, I need some help here.
Thanks in advance

Just run a Windows repair—but fair warning, you're going to have to mess with your programs all over again (you might even need to reinstall some of them) since you've wiped out all their settings.

So you mean
like when you're installing Windows and instead of hitting remove/install, you just pick repair?
Or is there some other option right from the start?

Just boot up your PC from a DVD and select the "Repair Your Computer" option... -> http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolso...tup-repair.htm

Does anyone know how to get rid of those built-in Games that come with Windows 7—you know, the card games and chess? I managed to wipe them out on Windows XP through the Control Panel before, so maybe there's a way here too?

Go to Control panel - Programs and Features - then look on the right side for Turn Windows features on or OFF and just uncheck Games🙂

But honestly, I spent forever digging through this stuff—good luck finding it yourselves.
Thanks!
