Have you ever considered switching to Linux? 🙄

Bob? 🤷 What the heck?!

Linux? What even is that? 😁

I tried out some version of Linux—pretty sure it was Linux. 🤷So, why is it booting from the DVD instead?

Regarding Linux—I'm still a bit in the dark on how compatible it actually is. How well do Linux applications handle files originally created in a Windows environment?

What’s the point of using Linux if I can't even open a Word document someone handed me on a flash drive? 😁

I'd rather stick with the old reliable. I know my way around Windows XP.

Bob? 🤷 What on earth is going on?

Haven't you heard about Bob? What a joke. 😲🙏

Linux Mint 9 is actually pretty sweet
comes with OpenOffice so you can just pop open those Word files easily 🙂

Alright, enough with the Linux talk. I'm not trying to play games on a PlayStation, haha.

Thank goodness I didn't install that this week. It's just a total mess.

XP! 😁

There isn't any "garbage" in the update itself. Maybe you're just dealing with old hardware issues from before? Just refresh everything and it'll be fine in five, maybe even a week... 👍

I’m planning on installing Windows 7 soon and I need to know if all my programs, documents, and everything else will be wiped out during the process, or if there’s a way to keep them intact. I understand there are options for an upgrade versus a clean install. What exactly is the difference between the two, and which one offers the advantage? 😕

Look, there’s already a massive amount of info here regarding upgrading or doing a fresh install from Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7. We've got over 90 pages and more than 3,600 posts covering this exact topic over the last 20 months. The general consensus? Go with a "clean install." Don't bother with an upgrade. Regardless of which route you take, do yourself a favor and back up everything important from your current system (like your My Documents folder, or wherever you keep your stuff) before you touch anything. You can find more details here. 🙂

If anything is still unclear, just ask. 😉

Honestly, Windows 7 was the peak. Most complete OS out there, hands down.

And what exactly is this genius using? The fact that they stopped selling XP proves everything is moving toward Windows 7. You can't really judge if you haven't actually installed it and used it for even a single day. Right now, Windows 7 paired with Office 2010 is the best OS Microsoft has ever put out. Even Office 2010 is lightning fast compared to Office 2007. It’s like Microsoft finally woke up and decided to do their jobs. Look, I have nothing against XP, but it's honestly not practical anymore given all the security holes Microsoft can't patch. And don't even get me started on how easy Windows 7 is to use. Try it first, then talk.

Hi everyone, I installed Windows 7 about a week or two ago. I finally sat down to browse the web today, but I’ve run into an issue where certain sites won't load. For instance, when I try to access a chat on a site like Yahoo! Chat, I get an error message saying some ActiveX is being blocked. Could someone please explain what ActiveX is to a complete novice like me?

What started as a classic headache just turned into a total nightmare.

I set things up—or at least, I thought I did—so that my computer would just log me straight into my account automatically. You know, skip the whole password dance every time you boot up. Everything was working perfectly fine until I did a quick restart, and now? Now I’m staring at two different users. One is my actual account, but then there's this "other user" thing popping up, and when I try to enter the password I originally set, it just rejects it entirely...

When I was trying to fix the mess, I followed these instructions here http://windows7news.com/2009/02/01/a...nto-windows-7/

Anyway, I'd really appreciate some advice on how to deal with this password issue and eventually get that auto-login working again. Thanks so much 🙂

Been running on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 for about 8 months now
Everything’s been fine, mostly, but lately things have been getting weird
WINDOWS EXPLORER just hangs out of nowhere sometimes, so I end up having to force a restart just to get moving again
Anyone actually know what the hell causes that?

You really ought to try a clean install using a legitimate key—or, if you’ve got the extra cash lying around, just go out and buy an original copy of Windows 7.

I'm running into the exact same issue, except I'm on a laptop that came pre-loaded with Windows 7 (it's a Compaq). There's a sticker on the chassis with the serial number, but I don't have a standard installation DVD—only the factory recovery disc.😕

So, did you actually manage to activate that Windows 7 using the product key from the sticker? 🙂
