What do you guys think: did my dad just have a stroke?

I am honestly spiraling right now... my dad came home from work today and we realized immediately that something is seriously wrong; he can barely walk, he’s stumbling everywhere, and his speech is just totally garbled, like he can't get the words out at all... we're all sitting here absolutely terrified, pulling an all-nighter because we can't even convince him to see a doctor, but when Mom tried to help him to bed, he told her he can't feel anything on his left side, his knee is buckling, and his arm is basically useless... is this actually a stroke happening right now, or are these just warning signs of something coming...? please, does anyone know how bad this really is???

Get yourself to a doctor immediately—don't even think about playing games with this. I know you feel fine right now, but trust me, just go see a professional!!!!

He’s sleeping now, but nothing’s really changed... he just stumbled up to the bathroom a bit ago, still tottering around and barely able to get a word out😕

You really shouldn't administer aspirin without knowing what you're dealing with. The symptoms of a brain hemorrhage and a blood clot in the brain look almost identical. While aspirin might help if it's a blockage, it could actually make things much worse if there is active bleeding.
Call 911 immediately.

In these situations, 100 Grand is the absolute way to go—it helps calm things down, but more importantly, you need to get to the ER right away. It's more like when someone is having a heart attack that could trigger a stroke; you don't mess around.

Ugh, where am I even supposed to find some 100 Grand right now? Every single pharmacy in town is closed, and Mom tried taking an aspirin but it’s doing absolutely nothing... we're just waiting on my brother to get home so he can venmo us enough to finally see a doctor...

If this actually is a stroke, there's a very real possibility that a blood vessel in the brain is still blocked—which means a portion of his brain could be slowly and irreversibly dying as we speak. The longer you delay starting medical treatment, the greater the risk of permanent, irreparable damage. Please, don't wait another second; call 911 immediately, explain exactly what's happening, and follow their instructions. An emergency physician will know how to handle this far better than any of us on this forum ever could. And whatever you do, DO NOT try to administer any medications on your own. You could end up making the situation much worse.

I completely agree. Based on what I've seen before, I know exactly how people act when they're dealing with a potential stroke or a TIA (mini-stroke)... it's all very real. It really wouldn't surprise me; we had that massive heatwave yesterday, and then this sudden 25-degree temperature drop today—extreme weather swings like that can definitely trigger these kinds of medical emergencies.

My grandmother used to pull the same thing, insisting everything was fine and that it would just pass on its own. If you can, try to frame it differently—don't tell him, "You're having a stroke and the paramedics are coming," instead try something like, "It's probably nothing, but let's have a doctor take a quick look just to be safe."

Whenever I see someone in a real emergency situation, I don't even stop to think twice—I just dial 911 immediately.

The thing is, when you've spent your whole life feeling perfectly fine, you just don't grasp how serious things actually are once they start going south, so you just shrug and tell yourself "it'll pass"... and then he mentions that on his way to work this morning, he tried to say hello to some lady and realized he could barely get the words out, which makes it seem like things are definitely taking a turn for the worse... first he couldn't speak at all, then in the afternoon he's losing his balance, and now by tonight his knees are buckling and his arm is giving out entirely.😢

The first thing they’re going to do is get a cocktail of meds through an IV drip... you’ll see how much more life they have in them once that kicks in. After that, they’ll likely spend about three days in the ICU because they’ve been in such rough shape for quite a while now. Bottom line is... this is serious business.
