Tamagotchi - new music magazine

My apologies to the admins if this thread already exists—I completely missed it.

Has anyone actually read this yet? What’s the verdict?

Personally, I think it’s pretty bad. It doesn't help that we don't have any decent music mags around here, either. Curiosity got the better of me so I picked it up, despite having Dirty on the cover (you get their CD with it for $6.75), and honestly, it's just Glavan and that old guard of "rock critics" doing their usual thing.

The editor claims there are about 170 unsigned bands playing in Chicago right now, yet he fails to mention a single one in the whole magazine. Not even a review.

That's my two cents. Your turn. Anyone have thoughts on this 🙂

Is this magazine focused on American music, or does it cover international stuff too?

Honestly, most of it seems to be foreign stuff. Sure, you’ve got Gobac, The Ramones, and a few others... It’s everywhere, on every newsstand.

It just bugs me that we don't have a legitimate music magazine—something actually covering the bands people are listening to right now, from indie rock to metal. Instead, you see these guys just recycling the same old names from decades ago. It's exhausting. Even the paper quality is a joke, despite being full color.

I honestly felt a physical pang when I saw The Rolling Stones plastered all over the cover of that magazine. There’s no way someone at Atlantic Records or whoever handles their distribution isn't cutting a massive check for that kind of exposure. If they aren't, then the editor seriously needs to reconsider their life choices.
Seriously, any other band—literally anyone else—would have been a better choice for the cover.

A buddy picked this up just because you can't pass up a first edition of that old comic book magazine, but honestly? I was dying laughing—the whole thing is just pure, unadulterated trash.

Can someone give me a breakdown on why this is such a skip? I mean, sure, seeing a dirty clock face on the cover is a pretty massive red flag that there’s zero good vibes here, but I’m curious about the actual concept—like, how are the articles? Just looking at the big picture. Honestly, I can't bring myself to drop even a dollar on this. Hell, I wouldn't touch anything with a grime-covered clock on the front even if it were handed to me for free. If anyone feels like sharing some insight, I'd appreciate it.

I had a good laugh the last time I read those American music critics' reviews. That critic’s praise for the new Green Day album was wild—trying to lump them together with Joe Strummer and Billie Joe Armstrong in the same breath is just plain ridiculous. Honestly, calling anything Green Day puts out an "unadulterated masterpiece" is pure madness. 😂

I wouldn't be surprised if this new magazine is stuck in the same old clichés as Goldman Sachs and those other critics who basically lost all credibility back in the 80s.

Thanks for the cover art, really says it all... it conveys way more than just showing off some local indie theater. You can clearly see how much the writer is obsessed with his own nostalgia in that little jab about how everything is easy when you're young, and then there's that lineup of bands underneath... I mean, Beyonce?!... I don't even recognize the others on that list, except for U2, and U2 doesn't even need a commentary, plus it's basically just an ad for some cheap snack brand...

Man, look, I get it. It's fine if someone gets stuck in the past—I can live with that—but completely tanking your standards isn't the same thing. Seriously, if you're going to center an entire magazine issue around those specific bands on the cover, then you're a total moron.

And I don't see the point—it’s not even sentimental crying, and it’s definitely not writing about anything relevant in today's world. It’s just obsessing over the most garish, boring, overplayed, and mindless garbage currently polluting the music scene.

Honestly, Green Day was incredible when I saw them live.

Who on earth puts Dirty Theater on the cover back in 2009? And look at this—it’s such a ridiculous, over-photoshopped, oversaturated mess trying way too hard to be mystical... (Does anyone else think he looks a bit like a serial killer in this photo? Plus, his hair is turning a weird shade of red 😬 ))

I think Green Day is pretty cool, but I’m really feeling Dookie and Nimrod more 😳

So then I went to Google to look it up... I was actually hoping to find some kind of connection to a General in the military or something, but instead, I found out he's the CEO of Sony Music. 😕
By putting his name right there on the cover, this magazine just gained a whole new layer of meaning. 🤮

It’s wild that anyone actually thinks this is a reason to buy it! I’m betting they’ll see an 80-90% return rate and the whole magazine will just crash after three or four issues. But hey, someone’s probably already cleared a profit off this mess...
