So here is the situation... I’ve been with my boyfriend for a year, and we’ve been sleeping together for about ten months now 🤣 (hard to believe how fast time flies), and I’ve been on miscellaneous for five months... and now we hit a wall. About a month ago, I started dealing with what feels like a chronic lack of libido. Things that used to drive me absolutely crazy now either don't do anything for me at all, or they just feel mildly okay—nothing special. Naturally, this has taken a toll on his pleasure too. This all started after my period; interestingly enough, during my period, my drive was actually pretty high. About a week and a half before this whole mess began, I was having some issues with urination, so I went to my doctor and was prescribed antibiotics. I took them religiously and finished the entire course. When I saw my gynecologist last week, she told me it was normal and that I just needed to relax. She suggested it might be the adjustment period for the miscellaneous, but once I mentioned the antibiotics, she said it was more likely the medication caused it and that everything would eventually return to normal. But now I’m spiraling because it’s already been a month. I miss the intimacy so much. What used to be incredible now either fails to trigger any "euphoria," or even worse, it’s physically painful. Occasionally, I’ll find something that works and I’ll reach a climax, but that happens maybe once now, whereas before it happened at least three times per session, and after that, I am completely done. Zero interest in anything else. I even tried watching a movie (haha, call it a cliché, but it was definitely suggestive 😉) and I felt this total mental block right when I should have been getting turned on... I felt nothing. Can anyone help?? Have any of you ever found yourselves in this position? How did you fix it?? Any advice would be a huge help. And I mean REALLY big help. I want to resolve this as soon as possible.

And for all the "know-it-alls" who are going to start spinning theories about me cheating on my boyfriend:
I love my boyfriend deeply; I am incredibly attracted to him and I enjoy every single moment with him. I’ve talked to him about it, and he told me to try to relax and offered various suggestions... oh yeah... he even suggested abstinence, but I couldn't even last three days. The desire is there, it’s just that the realization of that desire is failing me.

Once again... any advice is welcome... please, I'm desperate 🙂
Help me 🙂

I was reading recently that birth control pills can actually lead to a decrease in libido.
Perhaps this topic should be moved over to women's health?🙂

Ten months is quite a long stretch☕

Maybe you’re just lacking a bit of excitement. For instance, perhaps you should try going without contraception😁

Awaken your primal instincts🤣

Look, maybe that’s exactly why your libido is tanking if you’re on the pill. If you know deep down motherhood isn't happening, I guess sex just loses its point.🤷

It isn't even a "maybe." It's just how it is.🙏🤣

Perhaps the body simply believes itself to be in a state of bliss, triggering some primal instinct... and we all know that mothers aren't driven by lustful impulses🤣

That theory isn't half bad, I guess.🙏

To prevent any potential injury to a child's head.👍 If that isn't maternal instinct, I honestly don't know what is.🤷

It’s entirely possible that all those things used to turn you on simply became boring over time 🤷
. I can see this is weighing on you quite a bit, but maybe try to stop overanalyzing your arousal levels and how you react to them. Instead, just focus on experimenting with some new stuff 😉

It all comes down to the pill. I was on Dianoval for a full year, and by the end of it, my libido had completely vanished, not to mention the constant issues with vaginal dryness and how painful intimacy became.
When you aren't ovulating, your sex drive naturally takes a hit... it might be temporary for some, but in my experience, it wasn't. The longer I stayed on those hormones, the more my desire just withered away.

The fact that you aren't ovulating just kills your drive... sure, maybe it's temporary for some, but in my experience, the longer I stayed on them, the lower my desire dropped.

So what am I supposed to do then? If I quit the pill, I have to deal with the hassle of condoms, and I refuse to subject myself—or my partner—to that kind of frustration. So, what’s your actual advice here? How did you personally handle this situation??

It’s pretty common knowledge that most birth control pills cause those side effects, so maybe look into some other forms of contraception.

Well, damn, I guess that’s definitely "reliable protection" when you aren't even in the mood for sex anyway...
now I'm just sitting here feeling frustrated :S

Believe me, I went through the exact same thought process... You are 100% protected from an unplanned pregnancy, and you're also pretty much protected from having any actual sex at all, haha.

Maybe try a different brand of pill; perhaps a different formula would sit better with your system.....
As for me, I solved my little dilemma by simply walking away from them entirely, and honestly, I wouldn't touch them again if my life depended on it because the side effects just kept getting progressively worse.....

And quite frankly, a good condom is the way to go: it takes him a bit longer to finish, I don't deal with constant infections (which I suffered from incessantly while on the pill), and I no longer live in fear every single month wondering whether my period is actually going to show up or not....

I didn't actually have any issues with it until I started reading these forums and realized it was even an option...
....but it definitely is possible😢 I’d love nothing more than to kick the beer habit for good, but I really need it to manage my endometriosis

I’m with everything those girls just said...

I was on birth control for four and a half years, and honestly? It drove me straight to the edge of insanity (yeah, even I have a hard time believing it), not to mention what it did to my sex drive...

It was either a total lack of interest or, just like what you're going through, sex sounded fine in "theory," but when it actually happened? Nothing. Zero sensation.

I haven't touched them in six months now, and I can tell you, I feel like a whole different person in every way—including my sex life. I didn't turn into some insatiable beast overnight, 🤣but I actually look forward to it now, which is a massive improvement.

Look, I get it. Quitting the pill is a headache. You have to worry about condoms, tracking your cycle, making sure you don't miss anything... it's a lot (though that first super late period usually cuts ties for you). Sometimes I low-key miss the convenience of being protected, but then I remember the mental state I was in right before I quit... and I'm just glad I don't feel like that anymore.

p.s. Talk to your OB-GYN and see what makes the most sense. Maybe try a different brand?

I’m dealing with the exact same thing.
I was really hoping my body would just adjust to the birth control (I'm on Logistics) and that this would eventually pass... but it's been going on for quite a while now.😳
My OB-GYN just brushed it off, saying it’s just one of those side effects and nothing to worry about..
Maybe you should look into switching to a different brand?🤷

Interesting... personally, my libido shot up so high I don't even know what to do with myself. I've been on Logest for three years now and honestly—I feel like I'm thinking about sex every two minutes. It's constant 😢
I'm so obsessed at this point, I can't even imagine life without birth control.

For me, Diana is perfect. My libido is great, no depression, and I feel wonderful. 😍

But Yasmin and Triquilar... they were both terrible. I had zero interest in sex; I can't even tell which one was worse. I love being intimate, but those pills made me feel completely numb. Once I stopped taking them, I felt like myself again. 😁
You really should mention this to your doctor. There’s no point in taking birth control that doesn't work for you. It isn't just about libido—depression and weight gain are also signs that something is wrong.
