From what I understand—and please take this with a grain of salt—if your goal is to tackle leg fat (and let’s be clear, you want to lose the fat, not the muscle!), then cardio is your best friend for burning calories, whereas anaerobic training is what actually builds that lean muscle definition. After a workout, you really ought to aim for a protein-rich snack—nothing massive, just something light like some grilled chicken, fish, or maybe some low-fat cottage cheese—since protein is the fundamental building block for muscle repair. Now, here is the thing: if you are naturally bottom-heavy (I know I am—I have almost zero muscle in my upper body, but my legs and glutes are incredibly sturdy), then you might have to accept that "skinny" legs aren't really in the cards. If you do manage to slim them down significantly, you're likely losing muscle mass, which is something you definitely want to avoid because rebuilding it later is such a chore. Your real target should be reducing the fat percentage in your legs instead. And honestly, who is going to complain about strong legs? As long as they aren't bulky, but just toned and powerful? Just look at professional volleyball players or even elite dancers—they have incredible lower bodies. Personally, I think that look is fantastic.
Just keep in mind that I am just a casual gym-goer, so everything I am saying is strictly based on my own perspective. Please don't take my word as absolute gospel—I really hope someone with much more professional experience jumps in to reply to you as well! 😉
Best of luck!
