After twenty-five years of seeing Marlboro branding all over those Ferraris, people just instinctively link Ferrari with Marlboro, regardless of what's actually printed on the car. So really, it’s about the marketing, mistybear87, not just the bottom line. 😉

On a different note, the car definitely looks more aesthetic than that hybrid monstrosity Sauber was running during testing.

Wasn't Marlboro sponsoring McLaren back in the nineties too?🤷
There is certainly an element of marketing at play here, but do you honestly believe Marlboro *has* to advertise directly? I’m telling you, a huge part of this comes down to tax incentives.

I'm a little lost here😕 so under these new rules, there's an 18,000 RPM limit, but what's the deal with KERS? Does that limit apply when KERS kicks in, or can the revs just fly past whenever it's active? I don't get it, because honestly, what's even the point of the system🤷 if you're already pinned at max RPM on a straightaway anyway. What do you actually gain from using KERS if you aren't allowed to cross 18,000🤷

Does that restriction apply to the KERS usage as well, or does the limit effectively disappear once the system kicks in? I mean, if you can't exceed those RPMs anyway, what's the point of the whole setup? 🤷 It seems counterintuitive—if you're already hitting your ceiling on a straightaway, what exactly do you gain from using KERS if you aren't allowed to push past that 18,000 mark? 🤷

KERS shouldn't affect the engine's RPM limit (or at least, it shouldn't). The entire system is integrated into the transmission, so during those few seconds per lap when it's being deployed, it's just releasing energy through the gearbox. 😉

It seems to me like stormybadger8 thinks KERS somehow boosts the RPM, given how he
mentions the illogical nature of the rev limit... excuse me if I've got that wrong.

With or without KERS, these engines can spin way past 18,000, so I don't really get why he's tying KERS to the rev limit 😕

Regardless of where that limit sits, you'll hit your target time faster
with KERS than without it 🙂

Drivers have pointed out that KERS provides its biggest advantage right when you're exiting a corner. Besides, the system isn't even tied directly to the engine...

Exactly. You get that boost in acceleration, just like I said before. ☕

It's linked to the drivetrain.

...and honestly, does it even matter? Axle, gearbox... who cares? What matters is that you feel it at the wheels. 😁

Hold on, I’ve got a question here. If we're talking about the gear ratio being tied to the drive, like where the power actually hits the wheels, then sure, fine—but if it's fixed before that point, wouldn't that just crank up the RPMs? 🤷 Look, I'm no mechanic, but I am curious: is there an actual limit on the gear ratio, or is it wide open? 😕

There's a marketing angle there, sure, but do you honestly believe they just have to advertise? I'm telling you, a huge chunk of that is driven by tax breaks.

Tax breaks for advertising? Please. That's about as logical as donating to starving kids in a third-world country.

Every ad counts as a business expense, which makes it a tax write-off by default.☕

Plus, when one company gives another company total freaking love just to run an ad, there's always a tiny chance the CEO walks away with a little blue envelope under the table.😬

I’m staring at this new Ferrari and I honestly can't believe how pathetic they made the spoiler just because of those brainless aerodynamics rules 🤮 it doesn't even feel like racing anymore...

Plus, when one company gives another company a massive amount of cash just for exposure, there’s always that tiny chance a CEO might pocket a little "bonus" under the table. 😬

So, I did a little digging online because I was curious, and it turns out that in the US, companies can actually claim 30% of sports sponsorship costs as tax deductions. I'm not sure how it works in other countries, but it's probably a similar setup over there...

That said, I still think it's pretty foolish to hand over cash if your logo isn't going to show up on the car even ONCE. Back in 2007, you could at least see it during three races (China, Bahrain, and Monaco), but since then, they've banned tobacco advertising altogether. They even switched the car's color from Marlboro red back to the classic Ferrari red.

mistybear87, why on earth didn't you hand out a red card to ironfalcon43? Honestly, that whole speech was nothing but pure, unadulterated hate speech.

I think I saw somewhere that it’s January 15th and the first race won't even have KERS.
