I’ve run into a minor "issue" that’s starting to get under my skin. I went ahead and installed MSN, and now, for some reason, its icon keeps popping up in the taskbar, and I can't seem to get rid of it. What I actually want is for it to behave like everything else—just sitting quietly in the system tray next to the clock. Here are some screenshots so you can see exactly what I’m dealing with.
Basically, instead of having a tiny little icon tucked away in the bottom right corner, I'm stuck with this one that only shows up whenever a window is active. Does anyone know how to fix this? 😠

That was bugging me too, but I didn't even think to search for it online. 😳

Man, thanks a ton! 🙂
Hopefully, Microsoft will actually fix this in the final release.

After burning a few DVDs and dealing with three separate attempts to download Windows 7, I finally got it installed. Honestly, once I actually got the installer running, the process itself was smooth sailing, though getting to that point was a total headache.🙂
So far, nothing seems to be missing. Everything I’ve put on here works fine. I tested out Tomb Raider to see if the games would hold up, and everything else is still a work in progress. We'll see how it holds up over time.

Maybe you'll learn Russian too if you're lucky. xD

Man, that reminds me of this one time. Some lady called me to fix the network at her shop—not just any shop, though, a Chinese grocery store. I show up, sit down at the laptop, and it’s running Windows XP, but the whole OS is in Chinese. 😂 Just lines and dashes all over the screen. 🤣 All she could say was, "It won't load, it just won't load, my god, it won't load." 🤣

But I figured it out. Real geek stuff. 🙂 😬

I guess I'd try to navigate my way over to the regional and language settings and just set everything to English xD
Anyway, the RTM version is dropping next month.
How many of you guys are actually planning on jumping to Windows 7 next month?
That is, assuming they let us activate it using some kind of "workaround" similar to how we handled Vista.
Has Microsoft said anything yet about what kind of security measures they're going to bake into them?

Regarding Windows 8, they describe it as a user concept. I guess someone just sat at home and imagined how Windows 8 should actually look

Yeah, me neither. I ended up just installing Virtual Clonedriv.
I didn't really feel like messing around with half a dozen other tools. Besides, I’m already having to deal with enough new tech changes as it is.😳

Honestly, this week is driving me absolutely insane—everything else feels like such an upgrade over Windows XP or Vista, but the network management? It’s a total disaster. It was messy back in Vista, sure, but Windows 7 is just frustrating... Every time I boot up my PC, it tells me I have multiple networks active and refuses to connect to the internet. I end up having to disable the adapter and then re-enable it just to get things moving again, which is such a hassle. To make matters worse, I can't even figure out which two networks are causing the conflict so I can just delete the extra one. It shows up as Local area Connection 1 and 2, but there's no way to find where to actually strip out the second one.
Is there any kind of software out there specifically for managing network connections?

Look, I guess everyone should just wait for the full version of Windows 7 to actually drop, then maybe these kinds of issues won't even happen... It seems like as soon as any beta comes out, people just rush to install these buggy builds and all that other nonsense immediately...

I installed an RC build today and I've hit a bit of a snag. I'm running three hard drives—one PATA and two SATA—but one of the SATA drives isn't showing up properly. It shows up fine in the BIOS, but once I'm actually in Windows, it's nowhere to be found. Any advice on what to do here?

Maybe check the Device Manager to see if the drive is even listed there... if it is, you might just need to go into Disk Management and manually assign it a drive letter, like D:, to get it to show up in File Explorer.☕

The issue is actually my Bluetooth radio adapter; it created its own network profile and kept interfering with my actual internet connection, which caused all these headaches.
I tried disabling it, but Windows just turns it right back on during startup... I finally just unplugged it physically, and now everything is running smoothly.
All things considered, Windows 7 is a great OS—I haven't run into any other issues despite this being a beta build. This whole networking mess was mostly my own fault, really. My only real gripe is how much they overcomplicated the network management side of things...

Just saw the latest Windows 7 x64 build 7229. popped up on The Pirate Bay.
Should be the last one before RTM...

I honestly don't follow you guys—you’ve got a perfectly stable beta right in front of you, yet you're downloading a different version every single week? If the one you have is actually working, just sit tight and wait for the RTM.
