Honestly, I didn't expect things to turn out this way... It’s starting to feel like Microsoft is actually leaking its own OS. Every single minor revision has popped up online; you can practically track the entire evolution of Win7 from the very first lines of code all the way to the final build 🙏

Seriously, where the hell are the File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, and Help menus? What am I even looking at here?

😛

Ugh, I don't know... this bald-looking toolbar 😁
looks a bit off to me.

So, should I just not bother trying to activate it at all? Because I tried using this RTM version along with that ToolKit—which was supposedly supposed to handle the activation perfectly—but honestly, it was a total bust. Microsoft is already flagging it as blocked (well, no kidding, Sherlock! 🙂). If anyone happens to have some insider info on how to get this thing activated before my grace period runs out, please, feel free to shoot me a PM.
By the way, these are hands down the best Windows versions ever. Seriously. Just... wow.

By the way, Windows is just the absolute best. Seriously. Hands down.

But honestly, if you look at Windows 7, it feels pretty much like Vista to me, except maybe it boots up a little faster and has those shiny new UI tricks... though in certain games and apps, it actually feels a bit slower than Vista did... my latest testing comparing Windows 7 RTM against Vista SP2 shows that the memory usage isn't even significantly lower on 7... so yeah...

So, I've been running Windows 7 Ultimate edition for a bit now, and after shaking out some initial hiccups, everything is working pretty smoothly. My main advice? Just turn off UAC and those other annoying pop-ups that drive you absolutely crazy. The only real catch is that whenever I go to install something new, I have to double-check if it’s actually compatible with Win7. Back when I was using XP, you never really had to worry about that kind of thing.

One huge advantage of Win7 is that you don't even have to hunt for drivers—at least, I haven't had to install any myself. The system just goes ahead and finds the latest versions automatically for you.

One huge advantage of Win7 is how it handles drivers; I haven't even had to hunt them down myself because the system just seems to find the latest versions automatically, which is such a relief.

I went ahead and turned off UAC on my machine too, and honestly, once you start stripping away all those unnecessary skins, visual effects, and background services, you end up with a much snappier Windows experience... It really comes down to optimization rather than just which version of Windows you're running. Sure, XP feels faster and "lighter" compared to Vista or 7, but that mostly matters for folks running older hardware. Most of the complaining you hear about a specific OS usually comes from people who just haven't taken the time to properly optimize their operating system.

Did you actually use XP right when it first launched? Are you seriously suggesting there weren't compatibility issues back then?

Man... 🤣 just thinking about how much junk wouldn't work because of compatibility errors during the XP era... People were practically clinging to Millennium Edition just so they could play their favorite games... 😂

It feels like history is repeating itself with the seventh version, though I'd say the scale of the problem is ten times smaller this time around...

In that regard, I have to give a huge thumbs up to Windows 7... 👍

I haven't really been keeping up with all the Win 7 news lately, so I'm wondering—is there actually a solid reason to ditch XP? Honestly, I don't give a damn about cosmetic upgrades or how things look.

That's the thing. It really all comes down to what you're looking for, though there are certainly some functional updates compared to what we saw with XP...

I don't really have any crazy specific requirements—I mostly just use my rig for browsing and faxing stuff, plus
for gaming, so I'm just wondering if there are actually any massive perks compared to XP.
Speed and stability are my main priorities; honestly, I couldn't care less about how it looks.

It’s alright, I guess. Speed is decent enough, and Superfetch does its thing if you've got plenty of RAM to spare—it might speed up app launches a bit. As for stability, Windows 7 definitely wins there. 😉 What kind of specs are you running?

Man, oh man... 🤣 just thinking about how much junk wouldn't run on XP back in the day. It was a mess. People were clinging to Millennium Edition just so they could play their favorite games without everything crashing. 😂

I have to give Windows 7 a huge thumbs up for that. 👍

I remember those days, but honestly, XP eventually spoiled us all (after a few broken keyboards along the way)... Personally, I think Windows 7 is awesome because it actually utilizes my quad-core processor, and it seems way more stable than XP was. Of course, I just finished installing it, so I probably need to run it for at least six months before I can confidently say it's truly rock-solid. My only real gripe is the Start menu; I miss the old layout where you could go to "Games" and click that little arrow to expand everything. It felt a lot more organized. But aside from that minor annoyance, I'm pretty happy with it.

Yeah, version 1.5 of the activator is already floating around online.
They don't seem to be uploading them as often lately—looks like they might be wrapping up the code.
I guess they're probably just waiting on an OEM master key to drop sometime in October.
I gotta say, Windows 7 handles HDD and RAM usage way better.
I actually dig how when you shut down the PC, the screen goes black and tells you which programs are still hanging on.
And the new firewall is killer—you can tweak the ports so precisely it's almost overkill. Honestly, I don't even feel like I need third-party software anymore.
Launching Firefox feels practically instant now 🙏
They also fixed the DPI settings. Finally, once you adjust the DPI, the icons aren't all blurry and pixelated.
Everything scales perfectly 🙏
The interface tweaks are solid too. That new "superbar"... once you get used to it, it's actually great.
The new way to hide tray icons is 🙏
Obviously, I ran into a few bugs, but they're so tiny they aren't even worth mentioning.
Okay, there is one big one—getting a Blue Screen of Death while installing drivers for my satellite and TV gear—but I'm blaming the card manufacturers for that one.
I've still got 8 days left on my trial plus 3 RTM builds.
Maybe I'll try to fax my way into getting a Windows 7 license 😬
Windows Search is awesome because, like, searching through the Start menu searches everything. Even Libraries. If I want to listen to a specific song, I can find it in like 2 seconds because it's insanely fast.
My only gripe is that you can't add spacing between the icons in the superbar. Sometimes I end up clicking the wrong program because I missed the icon by a hair. But I'm thinking they'll probably add that in some Service Pack later.
Anyway, after these 22 days, I'm pretty happy with it.

I'll also add that it boots up faster than Windows XP, which is undeniably a huge advantage... 👍

Everything runs smoothly on it, especially if you're working with more modern hardware. Aero works perfectly, and they actually implemented some really solid solutions for window management...

And honestly, the taskbar is a massive upgrade too. I find myself barely even needing to touch the Start menu since everything I need is right there in the taskbar...

Could someone maybe drop a link where I can download Windows 7 Ultimate?

Thanks.

And, if I'm reading this right, the full version of 7 is supposed to come out on October 22nd... or am I totally off base?
