Hehe, okay, I'll give it a shot—though I am a blonde, 😬 so who knows...

Is there any way to actually buy or pre-order Windows 7 here in the States? It seems like Microsoft isn't offering anything helpful on their site at all.

Also, how long can you actually run a Windows 7 trial on your PC if you've got the latest version installed—is it just the standard 30 days, or can you stretch it out longer?

Here is some news, depending on how you look at it: http://www.osnews.com/story/20921/Mi...pgrade_License
http://www.channelregister.co.uk/200...vista_upgrade/

I also have a quick question for everyone: I just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows Vista, and I am wondering if it would be a smart move to upgrade from Vista straight to Windows 7, or if I should try partitioning my drive instead, though I'm not sure if any of that is worth it given that I only have 512 MB of RAM.

And my question is: I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows Vista, so does it make sense for me to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 now, or should I try partitioning the drive or just leave things as they are? (I'm running 512 MB of RAM)

Just wipe everything and do a clean install of Windows 7 so your files don't get all messy and slow down your computer for no reason.
You're going to end up with a ton of files that aren't compatible with Windows 7 that won't just delete themselves.

So you're rocking 512MB of RAM and still running Vista... and now you're actually thinking about moving up to Windows 7? Seriously, why? 😕

I am wondering how I can wipe everything and install Windows 7 when the installation files are on a DVD, especially since my computer refuses to boot from the DVD and will only recognize a CD? I really want to see what my PC is truly capable of.

Wait, hold on. If you were running Windows 7, how on earth did you manage to boot into Vista? Was that even on a DVD at the time???

Is there any other software I can use to check my CD/DVD ROM's firmware version? Something like "Nero Info Tool"? I'm running Windows 7 on my laptop and I've got Nero 8 installed, but it doesn't have that specific info tool included. My drive is acting up, so I was thinking maybe I could try a firmware update to fix it?

My Norton is running without any issues, but there is one thing that keeps tripping me up: occasionally it shows me using 1.2GB of memory even when I'm not doing anything special. I'll restart the machine and all the same processes are running just like before, except now I'm only using 550MB. Probably some kind of bug? Has anyone else run into similar issues—if I can even call this a real problem?

Try reinstalling Nera. You might have unchecked some of the extra components during the initial setup. Nero 8 shows the info perfectly fine for me.

And that’s just the "lite" version—it barely even does anything useful... so I guess I'll have to go through the whole headache of downloading the full Nero suite just to actually get things done..

Is there anyone out there who might be able to lend me a hand? So, Taylor Morales31 popped my Windows Vista DVD into his machine and it read it perfectly fine, performing nothing but a standard upgrade, so I was wondering if there's any chance or perhaps some clever little trick you all might know that would allow my computer to actually recognize the Vista disc or even Windows 7 when I boot it up?

Can a 32-bit version of Windows 7 recognize more than 4 gigs of RAM?

I'm on build 7100 right now... any way I can jump straight to 7600 (the latest version) without having to reinstall Windows?

Anyone know how to get Windows 7 installed? ; When I try to start the setup, this window pops up saying: (The application or DLL G👋indows 7 Professional (x86) – DVD(English)/Sources/SPWIZENG.DLL is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.) So I hit OK, and then another window shows up: (The file `autorun.dll` could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. Error code is [0xC1]). If I click OK again, it just kicks me out and nothing happens. I grabbed the Windows files online (original version)... via fax. Anyone know what I gotta do to get Windows running? Let me know... thanks

Maybe try running it at the lowest speed again for the first pass

It's hard to say for sure since my crystal ball is broken and the fortune teller is on vacation. 😁 I might have some coffee grounds somewhere I can check. I'll let you know how things develop. 👍
