So, I've got Windows 7 Ultimate, and honestly, it isn't even asking me for a product key, a crack, or any kind of activation nonsense.

My buddy Sir Oliver basically handled all the heavy lifting for me. ☕

And yeah, Windows 7 runs perfectly smooth. I actually reached out to Microsoft yesterday just to let them know the product is solid and they should go ahead and put it on the market. ☕

My uncle Sir Oliver handled everything. ☕

Even if they haven't prompted you for activation on Windows 7 Ultimate yet, it’s only a matter of time. It hasn't even hit the shelves in the US yet—maybe in about three weeks.

Then again, we're all Sir Oliver in this situation. 🙄

Look, there's no denying that Windows 7 runs like a dream and everything seems pretty solid, but I guess it feels a little too much like a carbon copy of Vista. Plus, you've still got those annoying issues where not every single program plays nice with Windows 7 yet.

On the other hand, we're all just trying to get by, I guess. 🙄

You clearly don't get sarcasm. 🤣

northerngull22 said:It's true, Windows 7 works great and everything is fine, it's just that it looks way too much like Vista and, obviously, not all programs are compatible with Windows 7 yet.

Some stuff is never going to be compatible because they just don't make it anymore. As for the rest, everything I ran on Windows Vista SP2 works perfectly fine on Windows 7, I guess.

You won't find it in a retail box... it's more of a "bonus" you get bundled with a pre-built PC (though you'd have to look in much more developed markets than here), plus they've released an enterprise version specifically for large corporations.

Anyone got a fix for this regarding the weekly builds (build 7600, RTM):

The "Folder in Use" dialog keeps popping up saying, "The action can't be completed because the folder is open in another program. Close the program and try again."

I’m seeing this message constantly whenever I try to delete or move a folder.
And before all the self-proclaimed gurus weigh in, there's zero chance this system is crawling with viruses or spyware.
Also, don't even bother suggesting some third-party unlocker or deletion tool. That's off the table.
Plus, booting into Safe Mode is a total non-starter—I mean, an OS where you have to reboot just to cut/copy a movie from one folder to another is pretty much useless, right?
There isn't any obvious process actually holding the file in memory (like, say, bsplayer.exe keeping an .avi file busy).
I suspect maybe the OS is hanging onto the folder in memory for a bit due to something like indexing services, previews, or thumbnails.

Edit no.1: I've already disabled the Index service and changed the ownership of the entire Hard Disk Drive to Administrator, but the error is still happening.

I guess you could get it here if you're a student; it’s been available for download for a while now.

for everyone running an RC:
Keep those expiration dates in mind: Pls plan ahead for when the RC expires. You'll get two weeks' notice, and then beginning on March 1, 2010, your PC will start shutting down every two hours. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. To avoid interruption, you'll need to rebuild your test PC to replace the OS with a valid version of Windows, and reinstall all your programs and data before the software expires.

Yeah, Microsoft provides the Enterprise edition for students to use...
Man, I really miss those days... back when I was still a student. 😢

I've been grappling with a persistent internet connectivity issue since yesterday, appearing quite abruptly after my computer shut down due to a depleted battery... I was met with an error stating that the local area connection doesn't have a valid IP address. And today, it has escalated to a 😛problem with the DNS server...

I have already gone through the motions of reinstalling the drivers and restarting the modem, and I've spent considerable time scouring various forums regarding this specific bug, yet absolutely nothing seems to work.
Could someone please lend me some assistance and restore my faith in Windows 7?

Ugh.

Check out this thread on the Microsoft TechNet forum. There might be a fix for your issue in there. 😉

Has anyone actually managed to grab the Ultimate version in Greek and successfully flip the menus and everything else over to English?

Thanks

Just head over to updates and grab yourself a nice language pack. You can even pick up American if that’s more your speed...

I use Windows Media Center to watch TV, so I was wondering how to pull a shortcut onto my Desktop to keep it "handy"!😁 The alternative is clicking Start / All Programs / Windows Media Center every single time. That isn't exactly difficult, but having a shortcut would be easier. One more thing: is there a way to set Media Center so it stays on top of all other windows? Thanks!🙏

1) Here's what I suggest: just start typing "windows," "media," or "center" into the Start menu search box until the WMC link pops up. Once you launch it, when the icon shows up in the Taskbar, just "pin" it there. You don't even need a Desktop shortcut if you have it one click away on the Taskbar.

2) Yes, you can. Look up "Keep always on top"—you can find more details here

Bryan Wood49 said:Can anyone lend a hand here?

Whenever I log into Windows 7, MSN Messenger kicks off automatically and signs me into my live.com account, plus I can check if anything hit my Outlook inbox.

When I minimize the app, the window just vanishes toward the system tray, though the icon stays active on the Taskbar. I actually used the "pin this application to the Taskbar" command a while back, which is why MSN Messenger is permanently stuck on the Taskbar.

There’s probably some "run in the background" or "minimize to tray" setting buried in there, but I haven't bothered looking at those specifics until now.

After digging around online for a bit, this is what I stumbled upon. You can see the exact steps demonstrated here and right here.

I don't really get it. Just click the "X" instead of the "_" on the MSN Messenger window, and it should go to the tray. If you hit the "_", I guess it just minimizes the window.

Not sure I follow you. 🤷
Are you asking about the actual "system requirements," or are you wondering how easy it is to customize the OS once it's installed? 🤔
