Around here, Ultimate $573 (OEM) is one way, but over at Merkelica it's 155.95€ (OEM).

hmm, even through Microsoft, the shipping costs are around $500 🤔
on eBay, a brand new, unopened one is actually priced near $333 😲
definitely wouldn't be buying it here 😬

edit: wait a second, $156? 😕
even if you factor in the exchange rate, it ends up being way cheaper 😕

are you absolutely sure about that price? 😬

So, I was poking around online today and noticed that HP finally dropped some drivers for my old trusty HP 6735s, but I hit this weird snag where it looks like there's absolutely nothing listed for the graphics card... It feels a little off, you know? Like, does a GPU actually function without its specific driver, or is it just a case where they haven't bothered to upload them yet? (Running Windows 7 64-bit)

Thanks a bunch!

Is it actually possible you don't need a driver for the GPU, or have they just not finished making them yet? (Windows 7 64-bit)

Thanks!

Man, I’ve been playing the guessing game with installing Windows 7 while waiting for HP to update their site, but I saw today that the files finally landed. Looks like Windows 7 will be up and running on this machine pretty soon.
Just grab the graphics drivers directly from the manufacturer's site.

It's most likely the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200; you can download the drivers here 🙂

Since HP didn't bother putting them on their own site, I kind of wonder if they even need to, because from what I've gathered, Windows 7 has its own built-in ones that seem to work pretty well enough, right?

And looking at that page, if I'm not mistaken, there seems to be some sort of beta driver available over http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...b_win7-64.aspx 😢?

Thanks!

You aren't mistaken, but that’s just the ATI Catalyst Display Driver ver. 9.9 (Windows 7 beta - 64-Bit Edition), dated September 9, 2009;

If you head over to the main site (Home page) and under "Download Drivers" click on "Featured driver: Catalyst" (direct link), just pick the specific driver for your card (ATI Radeon video card Drivers, full suite, Windows 7 64-bit), version 9.10—which was actually released yesterday, October 22, 2009—and grab that latest version (about 65MB). 🙂

Is Windows 7 actually going to run properly? Or am I just signing up for a headache—dealing with endless driver hunts and programs refusing to open—when I could just stick with Windows XP? It looks much nicer and more modern, though...
I'm working with an HP 4710 laptop.

I'm using an HP 4710.

It runs perfectly fine. Go ahead and install it—you should be extremely happy with how it performs. 🙂

So, what actually makes Windows 7 better than Windows Vista?

I’ve got this new laptop with Windows Vista pre-installed, and it's beefy enough to handle Windows 7 just fine.
Right now, Vista is fully updated and everything seems to be running smoothly enough.

Is it even worth jumping to Windows 7 right now? What am I actually gaining?
Is the difference really big enough to justify the hassle and the cost (though, honestly, money isn't my main concern here)?

PS.
Cash isn't the issue—I care about functionality, how easy it is to navigate, usability, security, the UI, and all that other junk.

It's more functional, cleaner, more secure (at least according to Microsoft), and way more attractive.

Plus, it's much better at handling older software compared to Vista.

If you aren't worried about the price tag, then yeah, Windows 7 is definitely the way to go over Vista.

I was reading on Computerworld that Amazon has some discounts on Windows 7 if you use a coupon. I wonder, though—do they ship out to the US easily?? 🙄

I'm just gonna dive in headfirst and see what happens... you know how they say, "Fortune favors the bold."

God bless you.

The discounted upgrade deal expires January 2, 2010, and applies to consumers in the U.S. and U.K, as well as those in Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Canada, Latvia, New Zealand, Poland and Slovakia.

Even now, we're dealing with territories governed by entirely different sets of rules. Consequently, any advice coming from that side of the pond isn't particularly productive. 😉
It used to be that the West was the Wild West, but nowadays, it feels like we're the wild frontier for everyone else (especially when trade is involved). ☕

I find myself quite satisfied with the 7 Home Premium 32-bit experience. It handles my software without the hiccups I endured on Windows Vista, and frankly, the system feels significantly more responsive than any version of Vista ever did.

Yes, everything about that is absolutely spot on!

But honestly... Apple President calls Windows 7 an " Antiquated Technology " and you know what? There’s actually some truth to that statement!

But anyway, there you have it... So, did you catch that? Apparently, the Apple President thinks Windows 7 is nothing more than "antiquated technology." It’s a bold claim, isn't it? I mean, we all know how much they love to position themselves as the future while looking down on everyone else's toolkit. It makes you wonder if they’re actually serious or if it’s just more of that classic Silicon Valley bravado. Is Windows 7 really that far behind, or is this just Apple being Apple? And there's some truth to that too!

The hype is definitely building up, isn't it? Everyone's getting worked up because they have a feeling Windows 7 is going to smash all the records—and honestly, I think they're right to feel that way.

After dealing with that absolute disaster of a Windows Vista, it’s actually quite refreshing to finally see a decent operating system.

I really wish both Apple and Microsoft would spend a little less energy obsessing over making their OS designs look "candy-coated" and instead put some actual effort into making them simpler to use and easier to configure.

All in all, it’s a surprisingly solid move. Now, I'm just sitting here waiting on .NET 4. 😛

Greetings to all my fellow forum members... I was wondering if anyone here has had the chance to test out Windows 7 and its compatibility for professional users—specifically regarding reader functionality and the stability of a 64-bit OS... I actually reached out to the support team at Ezaba to inquire about this, but their response was somewhat underwhelming; they claimed they haven't tested it yet because it hasn't been officially released... which is quite surprising to me, considering I have been observing various versions of it circulating for months now...

So, I ran that tool to see if my rig could actually handle Windows 7, and honestly, everything looks fine except for the Windows Aero stuff. I just popped in a brand new graphics card, but the screen stays totally static—though everything else runs perfectly smooth, even those super demanding videos. Some tech geek was actually shocked my setup could even play stuff like that without choking. So, does this mean I can go ahead and install it next week without any massive headaches? Any advice would be huge, thanks.

Noah Ruiz73 said:And who on earth is actually gonna buy this at that insane price point!? 🤔

Mainly because even this OS isn't immune to the old bugs, like how unstable things get with third-party software, or even its own stuff (like Media Player, for example). And don't even get me started on the lack of support for all the different audio formats. You're stuck constantly digging around and messing with codecs and plug-ins again and again—just to play some FLAC files or whatever. It's honestly unacceptable!

Plus, ignoring slightly older hardware—like those DVB-T TV cards for laptops—because there aren't any drivers? That’s just a total amateur move.
They've built most drivers right into the OS, yet for so many people, there's still zero support. Especially from manufacturers who couldn't care less about a product once it's a year or two old and they want to push the new models. It just goes on forever...

Let's be real, Windows 7 looks great and runs way faster than Windows Vista, but none of that makes up for the cost. And then you've got those famous patches 🙄
So, yeah, if anyone buys an original copy, they better be ready to start patching immediately after installing. Just like everyone else using a free version!

It's all the same old story... boring and overpriced. After all these years, billions in lost revenue, and Bill being way too well-off—free is the only fair price for 7. 👍

Regarding the drivers, Windows 7 was released with certain ones already built-in (though they're pretty crappy), and the rest should be available later for those with a legal version. Microsoft basically kept the partnership going with companies, promising us that drivers will be available for download (again, specifically for those with legal copies) 🙂
