Carol White3 said:Does anyone know why this package wasn't sent to my local post office (over in Vrbana) instead of just sitting there at the Branimirov branch?
image

The mail carrier literally taped a yellow slip to the main entrance of my building saying I have to pick up the package over at the Branimirov location. Honestly, sticking it on the building door is just insane to me because my last name is clearly marked on both the intercom and the mailbox 🤷. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened—I get packages all the time and I always just head down to my neighborhood post office 😕
.
I actually called the Branimirov branch, but the woman on the phone couldn't give me a straight answer as to why it wasn't delivered locally. She just kept repeating that it’s a package and that the package is at the Branimirov location. I asked her "why" specifically like, several times, and the only response I got was, "Because it's a package..." I mean, what does that even mean? I'm totally lost here...

Maybe the mail carrier just couldn't get into the building!

Taylor Martinez55 said:Hey, quick question—I need to mail a package over to a neighborhood in D.C., so I was wondering if I should just put 10000 Washington, D.C., on there, or do I actually need the specific zip code for that area?

Honestly, you can pretty much go either way!

George Lewis4 said:So, I'm dealing with shipping some paperwork for the first time here.🤣

It's nothing super sensitive, like my SSN or anything, but after reading through the first post, I gotta ask—how often does standard mail just... vanish? It’s pretty important that this stuff actually makes it to the destination. They're kind of specific documents, you know? Not really the type of thing you can just easily replace if they go missing.

Should I just stick with regular USPS First Class, or how much extra am I looking at if I go with Certified Mail?

Seriously, I've never even sent a package before.🤷🤣☕

Go with Certified Mail. It'll probably run you about $3.25, and honestly, the chances of it getting lost are basically zero.

Yeah, you can totally just give them a call!

Emily Martinez9 said:Hey Dan. I was wondering, if you have something that requires a signature and you aren't home when they arrive, the mail carrier usually leaves a slip in your mailbox, right? What's the usual deal there—do they actually drop it in the box the same day, or does it take until the next day?

The USPS carrier will leave the notice the same day...

Olivia Green46 said:How long does it usually take them to send out a decision regarding the forfeiture? I’ve been sitting here waiting for two weeks now. Should I be getting worried, or is this just business as usual?

Look, that doesn't really have anything to do with the specific post itself... it's all about whoever is actually processing and sending those decisions out to you guys.

Look, this is the first time I’ve actually had a tracked package go missing on me, which is why I’m asking.
If it hasn't shown up by the end of the week, I'm heading down there in person to deal with it. This whole thing has dragged on way too long—I already refunded her money two weeks ago, so now I'm just stuck waiting on the USPS to get their act together. :gah:

Can I send items in small boxes using the recommended shipping option, or is it strictly limited to envelopes?
Thanks 🙂
I need to ship some cosmetics in a glass container worth $67, and it looks like the recommended rate is actually more cost-effective than a standard package (it's $12.50 compared to $8.00 for a package)

I mean, honestly, a little box would work too, I guess.

Thanks 🙂
Is it safer to send this via certified mail or just standard priority?
The folks at the shipping center mentioned they’d refund the exact amount we write on the confirmation form, but honestly, that sounds a little sketchy to me..

I’m considering mailing a single t-shirt somewhere within the States—just a small gesture to leave on someone's doorstep. Since I’ve never actually sent a package before, I have a few questions regarding the logistics. What does the cost look like for something like this? Furthermore, am I obligated to purchase one of those specific branded boxes from the carrier, or can I just use whatever packaging I have lying around? Let's assume the shirt weighs roughly a pound or so.

Should I play it safe and use certified mail through the USPS, or just stick with FedEx?
The guys at FedEx told me they’d reimburse whatever amount I write down on the confirmation, but honestly, that sounds a little sketchy to me..

FedEx guarantees the value up to $167, but anything over that is on you.

I’m actually boycotting the USPS right now—they lost a certified package of mine and I’ve been sitting around waiting for a reimbursement for weeks now...

You don't need their box. Use your own and wrap it up, though buying one from them is fine if it's cheap. They have different sizes. Here's the link with the packaging prices KLIK (scroll down).
As for the price, based on what I saw, the minimum weight starts higher than a pound, so you're fine. Check the math here: KLIK.
You could set it up like this, the way I did KLIK.
If anything's unclear, just ask. 🙂

I’m trying to figure out the actual difference between sending a letter versus a package. Specifically, what qualifies as "letter mail" these days?
I have this small plastic piece—about 3x2 inches, maybe 3mm thick, and weighing roughly an ounce or so. Could I just pop that into a bubble mailer and send it as a standard letter?
Also, since the buyer wants to pay cash on delivery, does that change things? Does it automatically have to be classified as a package instead?
What would you say is the best, most cost-effective way to handle this?

So, if I put the item in an envelope, write both my address and the recipient's on it, then clearly state how much they need to pay upon arrival—is that how you set up a C.O.D. shipment at the post office? Is that basically the process?

I'm just a bit stuck on the math regarding the total. Since the recipient has to cover the shipping costs too, should I just write the total amount including postage on the envelope, or what? And does anyone have a ballpark idea of what the shipping would run me? Let's say the item itself is worth $33.

Benjamin Richardson9 said:So, basically, I just put the item in an envelope, write my address and the recipient's address on it, note down how much they need to pay, and tell the lady at the Post Office I want to send it COD (Cash on Delivery)? Is that really how it works?
I'm just a bit tripped up on the math—the recipient has to cover the shipping too, so I'm wondering if I should just write the total amount including shipping on the envelope or what? And honestly, how much would the shipping even cost in the first place?

Look, if it weighs about 30 grams, your shipping is gonna be $5.25+$3.00 plus whatever it costs to get the money back to you, making it 24.90 all told. So, you just add that to the item price, fill out those little slips the clerk hands you, and you're good to go. That's pretty much it.😉

Thanks, I've never actually posted anything before, so I figured I'd say something just so I don't mess anything up. 😉

I finally figured out how the expedited shipping works; you just add an extra $0.53 to the standard $3.10 rate, and I'm telling you, it actually shows up by the next day. It seems like they prioritize those packages and double-check everything to make sure nothing goes missing in transit. Now, if you're someone who needs a paper trail for peace of mind—like having hard proof down the road that a package was definitely delivered—then going with the tracked, recommended option is probably the smarter way to go.
