So, here’s the deal—a buddy of mine ordered a game through the ShopTo website, right? They shipped it straight to my place, but obviously, his name is what’s on the package. Now, if the mail carrier wants to leave a note, I’ve gotta put his last name on my mailbox so they actually find it... but since it’s being sent via certified mail, there’s that whole signature requirement hanging over my head. It gets a little messy. Basically, I'm wondering if I can just sign for him and grab the box, or am I going to have to deal with the full bureaucratic nightmare—like bringing a photocopy of his ID and some kind of formal, handwritten authorization from him saying I'm allowed to pick up his stuff? Does anyone know how much hassle this actually is?

Well, now you're really stuck. I can't help you if you don't have power of attorney to sign for something that isn't even in your name.
Maybe try asking them.
And hey, if they still won't budge, you could always request a redelivery, though they'll definitely charge you for that.$1.75.
If it comes down to that, the mail carrier might be willing to just hand it over "as a member of the household."

So, can I actually pick a time for the redelivery? Like, I need to know roughly what hour I’ll actually be back at my place...

So I went ahead and grabbed it. It was just a blue envelope. -.- 😁

I don't think so.
Your best bet is probably trying to catch the mail carrier on the phone and working things out directly with them. From what I understand, you can usually only pick the specific date.

Seriously, give me something here—these old guys out in rural Pennsylvania show up at totally different times every single day. It’s impossible to pin down a routine, so you'll just have to figure out how to track them down yourself. Anyway, thanks for the help

The only real shot you have is trying to intercept him before he heads out of the local post office.

Nah, I can't make that work—I'll be stuck in class during that time anyway

I’m not sure if everyone here is this naturally skeptical of people, or if it’s just me running circles in my own head.. 😳
I read the stuff about cash-on-delivery earlier, and I get it—when you’re sending money to a stranger, you want some level of certainty that they won't just vanish with your cash...
But what about the buyers? For instance, I pay up, and then the package shows up containing something completely different from what I actually ordered... finding a dead cat in my delivery wouldn't exactly make my day 🙂

Am I allowed to just open it right there in front of them and point out that it's not what I ordered? Can I demand they take it back and refund my money immediately?? 😁

Does anyone have any idea?

I need to ship a package containing some perfumes over to Canada....how does that process actually work? Are there customs fees I should be worried about?

Can I send it cash on delivery, or should I just go with standard registered mail? If I go the registered route, will there be some kind of extra fee for an international wire transfer?

I sent a small box containing powder samples over to Canada once. Usually, you just have to specify the contents on the envelope
I don't know anything else about it.

I was reading through the stuff about cash on delivery earlier, and I totally get why you'd be wary when you're the one sending items—you want to make sure some stranger actually hands over the money and doesn't just flake...
but what about the buyers? For instance, what happens if I pay up, only to open the box and find out it’s not even what I ordered? I wouldn't exactly be thrilled to find a dead cat in my package instead of my gear 🙂

Is there any way I can just open it right there in front of the courier and tell them, "Hey, this isn't what I asked for," so they can just take it back and refund me on the spot?? 😁

No. Your only real move is to refuse the shipment entirely, but then you're essentially screwing over the seller, who's already stuck dealing with $7.25 the cost of shipping the item to you plus whatever extra they have to pay to have it sent all the way back $3.25. As it stands, once you accept the delivery, you're on the hook for the payment. If you end up hating what's inside, you're stuck with the hassle of returning it yourself.

If that's how you feel, just don't buy anything here. Go to a local store and pick out exactly what you want.

It sucks when someone rips you off or an item isn't what you expected, but that's just the risk you take with online shopping.

I’m not exactly thrilled when someone pulls a fast one on me either, or when a package arrives looking nothing like what I expected, but honestly, that’s just the inherent gamble you take whenever you click "buy" online.

Exactly. It’s a two-way street. I remember this one time I sold an item for $20, under the impression we’d settled on cash on delivery. I went ahead and paid the service fee at the UPS Store for $7.25, thinking it was just part of my $13 profit margin. Then, the buyer simply changed their mind; the package was sent right back to me, and I ended up footing the bill for the return shipping too, which cost $3.25. So, they essentially shorted me $11. They didn't even have the decency to reach out and explain. Then there was another instance where someone withheld my package during a trade and never sent what we had agreed upon. That one cost me about $100. To top it all off, she had the nerve to insult me, claiming I was lying about not receiving her shipment. My point is—selling can be just as much of a headache and a risk as buying; it isn't always the customer who bears the brunt of it.

I have a quick question for the group... I know it might be slightly off-topic, but I wasn't quite sure where to post this.

So, here's the deal: when someone sends me something from overseas—say, a charger—and the plug looks different, like those thin, flat ones instead of our standard round American plugs, does that actually matter for our outlets here?

Mods, please feel free to move this thread if it doesn't belong here; I’m honestly lost on where to put it. Even if I were to list it on eBay, it still wouldn't quite fit the right category.

Hey there,
is there any way to track mail sent within the US?
When I get a tracking number on my receipt, I try typing it into the USPS website, but nothing comes up for me.🤷

Every time I get a tracking number on my shipping confirmation, I plug it right into the HP website, but it just stares back at me with absolutely nothing to show for it.🤷

That site is basically a dead end; you're essentially flying blind since the tracking feature just doesn't work.

When a package is sent via USPS Parcel Select and I show up at the local post office only to find nothing on file, what is my best course of action to track it down? Does the sender receive a specific tracking number or some kind of confirmation that would allow them to inquire about the status of the shipment? A girl sent a package to my P.O. box two weeks ago, yet there is absolutely no sign of it anywhere. What steps should I take now? Thanks.😢

dustyscout8 said:So, I’ve been sitting here thinking about this whole "Poste Restante" situation—you know, when you have a package sent to a local post office for pickup instead of your home address. It can be such a headache! I actually had a similar thing happen recently where a friend sent me a package via my P.O. Box, and after two weeks of waiting, there was absolutely nothing there. It’s so frustrating to show up, check the bins, and come up empty-handed. If you're in the same boat, here is what I think you should do: First off, you really need to find out if the sender received a tracking number. In the US, almost every shipment through USPS or FedEx comes with some kind of digital trail. If they have that number, they can look up exactly where the package is sitting. Did they get a receipt? Usually, once the clerk scans it, that info is live. If they have that number, they can call the branch or check the status online to see if it's "In Transit," "Delivered," or maybe even held at a different facility. If the sender doesn't have a tracking number, things get a little trickier. You might have to go down to the post office in person and talk to a supervisor. Don't just ask the person at the counter; sometimes they're just following a script. Ask them to check the "General Delivery" log. Since it was sent to the station specifically for you, there should be a record of it being processed for pickup. Honestly, since it’s already been two weeks, I wouldn't wait any longer. I’d reach out to the sender immediately and ask, "Hey, do you have the tracking number or a scan from when you dropped it off?" Once you have that info, you can either track it yourself or give the local post office a call to ask why it hasn't hit their system yet. Hang in there! Hopefully, it’s just stuck in a sorting facility somewhere and will pop up soon.😢

Of course she already got the confirmation for the package.
The tracking number should be right there on your confirmation—specifically, in your case, it'll be listed as your package number.
She actually has the authority to initiate a formal investigation herself.
And you? You can't do a single thing about it.
Or maybe you should just read her the tracking number from the confirmation email, Nicole Lee4, and then give her post office a call? Just to see if the package actually even left the building—you know, just for your own peace of mind.
If you use that same tracking number, you should be able to see if the package has finally made its way to your local post office.
You should probably double-check exactly where she sent it—just verify that shipping address one more time. It’s entirely possible your package is just sitting there waiting for you, maybe stuck at some local USPS branch or a regional sorting facility for a month. Things get backed up sometimes!
