What's the deal with the checkpoint situation right now? Is the police or those local patrol crews still busting cyclists on the exit heading toward San Jose?

Look, I used to roll through there a bunch of times back like a month ago and honestly? Nobody gave a damn. The doormen would just let me right in, they’d lower the ramps for me, give me a little nod... total cakewalk.
I don't even take that route anymore, so I don't really know what's changed, but just a heads up.

What cops??? I’ve been riding that route for years, basically every single day, and I have never once seen a cop pull anyone over. The gate guards used to be a real pain for a while, but for quite some time now, you can breeze through the ranking line—on either ramp, really—without any issues at all. Personally, I haven't had a single problem, and from what I can see, neither have the other riders hitting that stretch.

Here’s an interesting little test for you all

In the end, it looks like the car itself made a mistake... though honestly, we're only talking about a difference of maybe a minute or two.

I watched that. Honestly, if you're dealing with downtown traffic or any of those crowded areas, it’s definitely like that. For me personally, I'm looking at maybe 20-25 minutes by car, but if I hop on my bike, it's easily a 70-minute ride.

Finally biked to work 👋 , took the route through Oranica over to the Potomac area (basically downtown), then crossed the Golden Gate Bridge to get into New York City. Pretty breezy ride, though I won't say exactly how many minutes it took 🤣
Someone please give me a prayer so my bike doesn't get stolen 😁 , a coworker's bike got swiped just ten days ago. If mine survives the night, I guess I'll go grab another Master Lock or something... I have no clue what else works 😢

Oh, here we go. You're starting with this too. Good luck with that little fairy tale you're spinning.
So, where do you actually park when you're at work?

So, I’m out at the bike rack by my building. It’s literally built specifically for bikes, right? We’ve even got cameras and the staff at the front desk can see everything, but apparently, all a thief needs is a few seconds of nobody looking. Some girl I talked to this morning said the front desk actually called a coworker because they saw someone walking off with his bike. Absolute lowlifes, honestly. They've got some nerve!

Are you leaving your bike out there on purpose just to have it stolen??? 🙂🙂🙂

What do you mean, "IF IT SURVIVES"????

I'm speechless 🤷

EDIT: Just realized the last part. Tell me you aren't leaving it completely unsecured?????
If you don't lock it, you're going to lose it—some kid will just grab it because they're bored and cruising the neighborhood, not even because they need the cash. You won't have any other choice.

Not my problem, don't judge me! 🙂
Of course it was locked, I'm not *that* clueless! And please, what am I supposed to do, just leave it at home and stop commuting altogether? That’s basically been my life anyway 😁
The only reason I even dare to leave my bike here is because there are so many of them; tons of people cycle to work around here. Which reminds me, we talked about looking for some space in the garage—I really need to make a sign-up sheet, maybe I'll actually get somewhere with it (don't laugh, nobody ever listens to me, but whatever)
I mean, we have receptionists watching the cameras, and the thief was even caught on film—we can see who it is (kind of a classic story, right?)—but yeah, he just waited for the rush. That’s why I tucked mine closer to the building, but more toward the middle, so it wouldn't be the first thing anyone spots. I still have a tarp over it at my mom's place, and I'm picking up another Master Lock today, so hopefully, someone won't swipe mine next.

Donna Wells74 might try to pull a fast one by smuggling him into her office and keeping him tucked away there, though that’s really only an option if she actually has the desk space and a few coworkers who aren't too nosy to look the other way. 🙂

Ugh, if that were even possible, I wouldn't hesitate for a second. I just don't have the means, and there's no way you can sneak something like that into an apartment building. I'd strip everything movable, carry it all myself (minus the wheels, obviously...), and then throw on an extra cable and a Master Lock. Just let them try! I might even rig up some cheap Chinese alarm at the top 😁 😁 😁

took me 42 minutes today for 13 miles, averaging 29.4. my new record for the year. unfortunately, the route was shorter because I had to stop at Best Buy, and then I finished the rest of the 1.2 miles (my usual route) walking on the sidewalk with my girlfriend...

Look, I just did an import from my fitness tracker or whatever. That's why it looks like that.

Hey Nathan Castillo8, I was driving down that road you mentioned the other day—you know, near the construction zone—and it looked like they put down some extra gravel along the shoulder. It seems like if things get a little crazy or traffic picks up, you’d actually have enough room to pull over to the side if you needed to! I can't tell if I'm just seeing things or if my desperate need to go for a bike ride is making me hyper-focused, but honestly, I’m always a little nervous about cars when I'm out on my bike. :-(

I’ve no idea which part of the road you’re even talking about. The whole stretch is actually pretty solid and there's plenty of room to maneuver.
Just a little ways past the intersection near Queens, there's some glass sitting right on the shoulder and in the gravel. Once you clear that spot, though, the glass is gone—at least for now, I guess.

Still?

Nobody is stopping anyone. Even the security guards at the ramps just give you a nod. 😁
